Official Tinker Bell Half Marathon 2012 thread

Not the DL Resort Hotels, they usually start around $200. But the hotels that suround the property are cheaper. If you stay on Harbor, you can get a nice hotel and won't have to walk far. Some just across the street from the entrance. I'm staying at the Carousel Inn which is on Harbor and close to the crosswalk entrance to the parks, and it's $71 a night for that weekend. If you go on Google and search Hotels Harbor Blvd, Anaheim, you can see all the little dots pop up.

And if you stay on Harbor, you just have to walk through DTD to get to the staging are for the races.

Thanks so much. Have you stayed at the Carousel Inn before? I think my friend and I are definitely going to do it, but I just priced Disneyland hotels, and the cheapest is $2000. So I'm looking for one within walking distance.

runDisney released the medal design on their Facebook page for the Tinkerbell race...it's really nice! I can't wait to get it! :woohoo:

Someone also just posted on FB that the race is currently at 55% capacity...I haven't personally checked the runDisney site myself, but thought I'd share that in case there is anyone on the fence about registering...just be sure to keep an eye on that number so you don't miss out!

That's actually one of the few that I haven't stayed at on Harbor, so it'll be a new experience. But the ones that I've stayed at are Best Western Anaheim Inn, Tropicana, Park Vue, Candy Cane, Ramada Main Gate, and Hojo. They're all right on top of each other one after another. Right now if you look, you can get one for under $100. They're all pretty nice hotels, I've never really had a bad room. Katella is another street where some hotels are and that is a cross street to Harbor and the backside of DCA so that's also w/in walking distance. In my opinion, hotels/transportation/walking distance are easier than WDW. But if you do find a hotel and have questions, don't hesitate to ask!

Here's the medal for those that don't have facebook~

Thank you. I have a dumb question. I need one that offers transportation from LAX, or roughly how much does a taxi cost, if anyone knows?

Thanks again,

Jennifer

Ooo, thanks for posting the link to the medal! :tink: I like that it says "inaugural" -- makes me want it even more now! ::yes::

You might be better off doing something like Super Shuttle from LAX if your hotel doesn't have a shuttle of it's own. I've only flown into SNA when going to DL, but I'm thinking a taxi from LAX would be fairly pricey.

Can't wait to hear about your W&D experience! I'm hoping to do it next year so I can get my C2C medal. :goodvibes

I'm in week 3 of a Galloway 18 week training plan for my local half in September. The difference is that this is a run for time plan instead of a finish plan, which is what I've been using. It seems very similar except the short runs are 45 minutes and the long runs go all the way up to 17 miles! :scared: I have two goals for this half, finish in under 4 hours and weigh less than 200 pounds. Then I'll be sitting pretty to start my Tinker Bell training in the fall.

Do you have a race in the fall, Lisa? If not, I would be using this time really build that base. It will be so fun to see you at DL soon! :tink:

Hi Heather! :wave2: Doing marathon week-end and doing Goofy as I recall. :worship: I remember you from the Princess 2011 thread. What an accomplishment to get your C2C in the same month! :yay: Hope it will work out that you can join us. :flower3:

Wow, a 17 mile long run?! I'll only be attempting the to finish plan. I'm planning on working on a good 3-4 mile base this summer (I'm hoping for around 13 mm, I'm at 14 right now, but I want a little extra cushion for restroom breaks and photos). Since I decided I wouldn't be ready for a half this fall I am struggling to find a 10K instead. The 2 most promising races are during the only 2 weekends I will be out of town :headache:. There is one the first weekend of October (I think its at a pumpkin patch) that I may do, but I'll be coming off vacation and I'm a little intimidated since the elevation is higher than here. I may just have to suck it up and go for it! I think I am doing a 4 mile on the 4th of July, we'll see how that goes!

Heather-you sound busy! Come join us and get that C2C! Who knows, maybe I will be tempted to do W&D after this!

I just saw the medal on FB, but thanks to everyone who reposted it here. I love it!

Welcome to Jennifer and anyone else I missed!

To all the WDW vets, I also recommend the hotels on Harbor. We are going to stay at Hojo's, one of our faves. We are in a kids suite (2 rooms, 1 with a king bed and 1 with a set of bunk beds-and its POTC themed!) because the whole family is coming (DH, DS and DD) and I want to sleep, or toss and turn, in a separate room from the kids. They are also offering 25% off if you are running the race. LisaH provided a link to a map of the area in an earlier post. Its so much easier to get around here than WDW!

Summer's right. A taxi would be really expensive. The 2 shuttles that I know of are Super Shuttle and the DL Resort Express Bus. They're both around $30 roundtrip from LAX. Not sure about the Express Bus, but a lot of times on the internet or those coupon books you can find a couple $s of of the Super Shuttle. That's the easiest way to get to the hotel.

And unless you're going sightseeing outside of the DLR, you won't need a car. Everything surrounds DLR. The majority of the hotels and restuarants are on the bordering streets that encompass DLR. DL and DCA are directly across from each other and DTD goes out from the sides of the entrance, it would look like a "T" from above. Everything's really accessible and w/in walking distance, which will be nice especially after the run Sunday morning!:goodvibes

Hey everyone! I am going to join you all.

I did the princess half this year and was planning on doing it again next year, but yesterday my sister (who I run with) saw the medal on FB and decided she wanted to do Tinker Bell instead of the Princess next year so here I am :goodvibes
I love Tinker Bell so of course I need that medal :thumbsup2 Plus I am from So. Cal (transplanted to Texas) so it will be kind of nice to go back home.

I haven't read through all the posts yet, but I wanted to jump in and say hi.

I also have a quick question. Does anyone know how submitting proof of time works? I know Disney is quite generous on expected finish times, but I did the Princess in 2:57:05. I want to do the Tinker Bell in 2:40 to 2:30-ish. I am doing a 10k in August that should give me an estimated finish time around there, going off of what my friends submitted last year, so should I even bother submitting my half time? Should I just wait and submit my 10k time? Which should be around 1:10-ish or so?

Well I'm off to go read up on all of you.

Hi Melody!
I'll share my experience since I'm a newbie myself. I began running last August with the Couch to 5k program. My first race was in November 2010, I did a 10k. Then I did another 10k and then a 12k in December. In January, I ran my first half marathon. My chip time was 3:11:37. Not bad for a first timer, I was just happy to start and finish. That said, after my 1/2 marathon, I took 13 days off from running since I had read to recover, for every mile you ran, you should rest 1 day. It was difficult, at best, to get back in to running after my 1/2 marathon, not gonna lie. My body just didn't want to cooperate. As a 1st timer, I don't think it's advised to do 1/2 marathons within a month of each other. But that's not to say that people don't do it.

ITA with this. My first race ever was the Princess this year. I took a week off when I came back home and for a another couple of weeks I really struggled with my running. I was so frustrated that I had just done a 1/2 a couple of weeks before and a "little" 4 mile run was kicking my butt.

YAY! I'm glad someone started this thread. I registered as soon as I saw the announcement on Facebook! The 2011 Princess was my first half marathon, and I'm also registered for 2011 DL half and 2011 Wine&Dine half. Looks like I'll be running the Tinkerbell solo since it's 2 weeks after the Houston Marathon that my BF is running...but he'll be there cheering all of us on! I was excited too to see that this race will have a different course from the DL half. :woohoo:

Summer are you doing the Princess again too? I was planning on it but then my sister wanted to this one and I don't think I can do them both a month apart. Plus 2 Disney trips that close together would not be good for my bank account.

Did they do their training runs in the tutus? If so, that must have been a sight to see! I'm only looking at accessories that would be comfortable. I liked the tiara headbands many princesses had, it would be cool if I could find a pirate one. I am definitely taking the "nothing new on race day" advice! No wings for me either.

I ran in a sparkle skirt, but no I didn't practice in it. I did put it on over my running clothes and wear it around the house a bit to see if I might have rubbing issues, but I didn't run in it and I was fine.

Beware of random, flying articles of clothing!! :rotfl::hippie:

Good to know I may have to dodge fairy and princess costumes! :rotfl2:

:thumbsup2 Keep that in mind. I almost ate it right after the start line at The Princess because someone dumped their blank jacket/ sweater in the middle of the road and I tripped over it!

I am registered as well :) 2012 I will be going for my "coast to coast" medal.

This will be (hopefully) my second half marathon as I am signed up for the Wine and Dine in October 2011. With this one, I am more scared that the race starts at 5:45 am than the actually running part (I am more of a night owl than a morning person to say the least) ;) Also, I am reading that I will need gloves and layers... yikes!!! :scared1:

That is my plan too. TB in Jan and W&D in Oct. for my C2C.

It is hard to work those runs in but it does get easier. My plan only requires two 1/2 hour runs and then the long run. I look forward to those times when all I have to do is put one foot in front of the other. You can do it! :thumbsup2

This is my schedule too!!

Any thoughts on ... Running water..
The little bottles you have on your side, or the pack thing?

I'm thinking the pack would be hot, but that the bottles would get... um cumbersome.
I already get cough on my thumbs if I have pockets in my shorts.. : 9 yes I'm a dork, but it really happens.

I bought a camel back and use that for my training runs. I didn't carry water for the Princess but I kind of wish I did. They did have plenty of water stops but I found I always wanted it before they offered it so I am looking at getting an iFitness belt with 2 bottles. I can always fill them up at the water stops and keep the water with me.

I'll be starting the 18 week Galloway plan when it comes out, I think that puts week 1 the last week of September. Has everyone decided on their training plan yet?

I will probably being doing a modified version of the same plan. Right now I do two 25 to 30 min runs 2 days a week and I alternate my long run from 4 to 6 miles every other week. I have a 10K at the end of Aug. and then I plan to start my half training. I haven't full decided how I am going to modify it but I am thinking there will be some week repeats in there.

For the princess I started out doing Marathoning for Mortals but switched over to Galloway in Dec since I liked the idea of doing 14 miles before the race. M4M only had you do 10 and I kept hearing about the 10 mile wall so I wanted to go the distance.

Woo Hoo I am all caught up now :cool1:

Probably not...I would love to (and I'm still leaving the possibility open in case of a windfall :) ), but like you said, 2 trips that close together will be hard...especially since I'm doing the DL half and the W&D half just a month apart later this year. There's not enough bank account recovery time in between there for me to do another 2 trips back to back so soon...another time of the year, maybe, but with Christmas thrown in the middle there, no way! I'd like to go back and do Princess again in 2013 for the 5th anniversary though because they will probably have a special edition medal, but then I think I might want to continue to do Tinkerbell too since I'm starting with the first one and then there's 2 trips back to back again! hahahahaha!

Ha ha ha, but at least you can start planning and saving now ;). I plan on doing the Princess again in 2013 too.
Right now the plan is to do the Tinker Bell in Jan and then W&D in Oct and make W&D our family trip, so that one will be pricey, then do the Princess in 2013 and that would be another girls weekend.

Hey everyone! I am going to join you all.

:welcome: I'm from SoCal, too, Anaheim! :teeth:

Add me to the list of folks wanting to do the Princess again in 2013! princess:
But I'm pretty sure I will want to do the Tinker Bell again, too. Not to mention W&D in 2012. Good thing there is lots of time to figure out how to pay for all this! :lmao:

I'm so excited to find this thread! I'm planning to do the Tinkerbell 1/2, it will be my first race ever. What better than a Disney race to start?! At this point I'm thinking I will likely walk a good portion of it, I will just be happy to finish!

:welcome: DisneyKim! A Disney race is a great place to start. You may want to find a couple of shorter local races, too, to get your feet wet. I know it's not a good time to be running in your neck of the woods now but perhaps in the fall. ;)
