Official Tinker Bell Half Marathon 2012 thread

Hi there!

I am going to sign up for the Tinker Bell Half. Since I missed signing up before the price increase, I am now just going to wait until the DL Half expo to see if they have any coupons/discount codes unless registration gets close to being full then I will just register regardless.

The Tinker Bell Half will be my first half marathon. I had originally planned on doing the Princess 1/2 and then the DL Half both in 2012 to get the C2C medal but due to budget constraints I am skipping the Princess.

I am doing the DL 5K in September and that will be my first race ever. I'm really excited and nervous. I'm not much of a runner and am doing the C25K plan to get me ready for the DL 5K. I know there are a few 10Ks in the late fall in my area I may also do to prepare for the Half.

Are any of you planning on doing the Never Land Family Fun Run 5K in addition to the Tinker Bell Half?

So happy to join this thread!

At the expo you can sign up but the only discount you get is not having to pay for the Active fee if you registered online.

I'm doing the Neverland 5K also. Loving the nightime race on Friday night too. I think it's going to be a lot of fun and a nice change.

You'll have a blast in Sept! The 5k is really a lot of fun and a family orientated race so there's no real pressure, just fun, photo ops (if you like those) and a lot of backstage area! Last year we went behind the TOT and got to see some of the Carsland construction up close it was awesome. I can only imagine what it'll look like this year.

I'm doing the 5K and the half, but am very concerned about a bad knee. I just got an email from the race route assistance information that they will have people to pick me up if I don't make it. but I would be very bummed if I didn't make it to the end to get the very cool piece of Tinkerbell jewelry. I don't suppose they give it to you if you come in on a golf cart?:tinker:

They should. That happened to me at the w/ the WDW Full, I had to stop b/c of an injury and when they brought me back to the staging area, I got a medal. I would assume it's the same b/c it's all Run Disney.

I'm so excited to find this thread! I'm planning to do the Tinkerbell 1/2, it will be my first race ever. What better than a Disney race to start?! At this point I'm thinking I will likely walk a good portion of it, I will just be happy to finish!

:welcome:
This years Princess half was my first race ever!! It's totally doable.

I had thought about it but the price is holding me back. I plan on getting tickets for my whole stay anyway so the twilight ticket would just be a waste of money for me.

So I know I am way ahead of the ball but I almost have mine and my sister's whole costumes worked out. :thumbsup2

What do you have planned? I'm still trying to figure out what I want to do for the DL and W&D. I read a post the other day on FB from Sparkle Skirts that said something about being on the look out for new colors soon and a special Tinkerbell edition so I'm definitely cuirous to see what they do with that.

I have gone through several ideas already. At first I was going to make a Tiana costume out of a skating dress pattern and use wicking material, but I decided to save that for when I do the Princess again. Then I was thinking pirate since everyone is going to be Tinker Bell or one of the other Fairies. But I have decided to make mini pettiskirts (short enough that they wont bother me when running) out of a zebra print and we are going to have contrasting colors on the bottom, hers pink and mine blue, black tanks with rhinestone Minnie Mouse transfers. The outline of the bow is going to match our contrasting skirt color and the bow is going to be zebra print, and zebra print armwarmers. Under the skirts we will wear our running capris. We wear those year round so it shouldn't be an issue regardless of what the weather ends up being like. I still have the throw away jackets and stuff I bought for the Princess so I should be pretty good for whatever mother nature throws our way. I am also considering a wicking visor and getting or making a rhinestone bow that matches Minnie's bow to put on it but I haven't decided yet since I don't normaly wear visors.

I guess not paying the Active fee is still something.

I'm looking forward to the DL 5k, it sounds great!

I'm pretty sure I'll do the Neverland 5k in addition to the TB 1/2. I like the idea of running at night through the parks.

That sounds really cute! I did the transfers for my top for the Princess and it came out really cute so I'll probably end up doing that again for DL, W&D and Tink...I just can't decide which one's to use and what I want to do on the bottom...I have to worry about stuff like this so I can try not to think about how bleeping hot it is outside. This may be the one and only year I do the DL half because training in this is absolutely miserable....but should make my training for Tinkerbell in the fall & winter seem like a breeze!

LoL That is what I do too, but now that I have the Tink outfit pretty much planned I guess I will have to start thinking about next year's W&D. :lmao: The heat is a huge part of why I didn't sign up for the DL half. Well that and I went back and forth about it until it ended up filling up. But I did not want to be doing those double digit runs in August. Right now I run in the evening, after the sun goes down, and I am keeping the runs short, two 25-30 minute short runs and my long runs are no more then 6 miles. But I am doing the Lake Houston 10K on August 27th and I am terrified. After that I am going to start my half training and hopefully it will be some what cooler.

Yeah, I'm not sure what I was thinking when I signed up! I guess I was just excited about finishing the Princess and having such a good experience there that I wanted to get another one on the calendar soon to keep me going (and why not go ahead and get a C2C!)...and I knew my BF was going to do DL again so I figured why not? I'm too much of a chicken to run after the sun goes down...while there's miles and miles of jog/bike paths in the Woodlands, none of them are lit...and it's just me and the cats at home so they won't come looking for me if I don't come back! So, I end up running at either Memorial Park or Hermann Park twice a week right after work since I work near both...I wear plenty of hydration and stop at all the water fountains to splash water on my face and arms...that really helps. On my saturday long runs though, I get out at the first crack of light early in the morning, so that helps a little.

I wonder if I could find a ponytail holder with wings of some sort on it? That would be cute for the Tink if I could find some with Tink-ish wings. I found something like that with a tiara for the Princess that I really liked...I didn't think I would enjoy wearing an actual tiara for the whole race. Hmmm, I might have to search for something like that...or make it myself!

For those of you who might be interested in running in snazzy lime green WISH shirt here is the link to the order info. http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=41608432&postcount=1

Just a warning the shirts do run small. I have a men's shirt that I modified by making the length and sleeves shorter until I get my slimmer figure.

If the Tink is like the Princess we won't see a lot of WISH shirts but it was fun to wear them for meets and things. And I think the WISH folks will be meeting at the W tent before and after the race. I plan on wearing my WISH shirt for the race. :tink:

If you find the ponytail holder I would love to know where:goodvibes

Awesome, I was thinking of ordering one and wearing it too! :goodvibes Then we'll be coordinated Lisabelles! I am still debating between getting a unisex large or xlarge, since they say the sizes run small (I saw how short the length is on the women's and I want something longer). How do the men's shirts fit?

Well, that's good to know, but it would still be disappointing not to finish. :sad1:

I have a friend who runs during her lunch break, or at least she use to, I'm not sure if she is right now, at Memorial. I usually just run in my subdivision. It has street lights, but unfortunately no sidewalks so it can be a bit iffy on a Friday night, but usually not bad during the week.

I am sure you could find something on Etsy. I know I had gotten my girls a Tink hair bow from there. You could also get one that is on a clip and clip it to the ponytail holder.

Its official..just signed up for 1/2:thumbsup2

I am waiting until dh gets paid, either Saturday or Monday and I'll be signing up too.

Has anyone called Disney to see what the discounts are? My mom is going to pay for the room for us, we are hoping to stay at the Grand Californian since we have never stayed there but I have to see if we can justify the cost. :thumbsup2 and my sister adn I will have to buy our tickets. But since we are using miles for the flights I think we are making out pretty good.

GetTravel, the company for the DL races has the price listed at $349 after taxes + $12/night resort fee. If you go by the DL website, they have the price at $355 pretax. That one is the most expensive out of the 3 though. And I think those are just the standard rooms.
