Official Tinker Bell Half Marathon 2012 thread

GetTravel, the company for the DL races has the price listed at $349 after taxes + $12/night resort fee. If you go by the DL website, they have the price at $355 pretax. That one is the most expensive out of the 3 though. And I think those are just the standard rooms.

Thank you. I checked out the site but I am confused as to why the tax is $50 a night, that is more the twice the sales tax rate for Anaheim??? Plus I am confused if the resort fee is just for the Disneyland Hotel, which is what it appears to say or for all Disney property hotels??
I have stayed off property several times so it wouldn't be the end of the world to stay off site again, but I like the convince of being right in the middle of everything too. Plus this will be my first time back to Ca in about 5 years so I would really like to stay at the Grand since I probably wont get another chance to.

Yeah, the hotel tax rate there is 15% so that isn't so great. And I'm pretty sure that the resort fee is for all 3 hotels. They say is covers parking, newspaper, and local calls. I think you get charged even if you don't have a car.

Yeah I was looking into it some more. I forgot about the whole hotel tax thing and on the Disney site it says the resort fee is for all 3 so I think they just worded it badly. I am pretty bummed because now my mom is backing out of staying on property. :(
It's easy for her to say it isn't a big deal to walk to the start and back to the hotel afterwards when she backed out of running it anyway. :confused3

There's always the DL Hotel. It's pricey, but not as bad as the Grand. Plus, the expo will be downstairs and the staging area is in the parking lot next to the hotel. And close to the hotel is the monorail that you could take into the park. You could always randomly check the hotel sites. For the DL 1/2 last year, I would do that and one Friday afternoon I would a room listed at a cheap price. After I booked it, the price went back up. It was really weird, but I got that price and the room even looked out over DTD, DCA and DL.

I know that the hotels on Harbor have started listing prices though. I booked the Carousel Inn for $70 a night and they're next to the main crosswalk to go to the parks.

I've got Paradise Pier booked for the Disneyland Half in September but I'm not sure where I'm stayiong for the Tinkerbell Half.

Probably Best Western Stovall's. It looks like it's right next to the Start and Finish.

Thanks for the info. I will keep checking around and checking back. Right now we are booked at the Castle Inn. I have stayed there before and it is okay, I'm just not sure if I want to mess with trying to get to the start line and all.

I was looking at some of the hotels on Ketalla too. I have been thinking about calling Disney to see how we get to the start line. If we can get there from Ketella the walk wouldn't be too bad, but if we have to go all the way around through DTD I am not sure I want to mess with it.

I hadn't thought of that...If you call let me know what you find out.

I was just looking at the map again, and it looks like the start line is on the opposite side of the underpass from the DL 1/2 start, right next to the Grand. I know you said that you booked at the Castle Inn, but if you didn't want to walk through DTD, I've stayed at the Best Western Stovall's on Katella before and it was nice. It's on the other side of Disneyland Way and will be a short walk to the start line. But w/ a short walk to the start, you have a little longer walk to the parks. If you do decide to keep staying at Castle, I think we can go through DTD, but will have to cut through the parking lot behind AMC Theaters at the end of DTD.

I'm thinking that the staging area will be in the parking lot to the side of PP where we run through for the DL 1/2.

DD and I are doing this race, as well as the Princess. Since I pay for the rooms and races AND MY CENTRAL AIR CONDITIONING WENT OUT TODAY!!, I don't think that we can stay at the Grand Cal. At WDW, we can stay at a moderate hotel on property if we cannot get a good deal on a luxury hotel.

We have never been to DL so I am not sure about the logistics of everything. If we stay at one of the motels directly across from the entrance on Harbor Blvd., how long a walk will we have to get to the starting point of the race? Is the entrance on Harbor Blvd. the only pedestrian entrance into the park? I was looking at motels on Katella which look close to the beginning and end of the race but are far away from the entrance to the park. We want to go to the parks for a few days. Please let me know your thoughts on this. I think I need to book a motel room pretty soon.

Sorry about the Air Conditioning!

As for where you stay, that's a really tough one and it'll pretty much come down to which spot you want to be closer to.

If you stay on Katella, you can do 1 of 2 things. You can walk all the way around to the Harbor entrance which would be a trek. Also, If you walk down Disneyland Dr, right past the Paradise Pier, there will be a parking lot. (The one closer to the DL Hotel, not where we finish). If you cut diagonally through the parking lot, you come out at the end of DTD by the AMC Movie Theater. From there, you can either catch the Monorail(just past Rainforest Cafe) which will take to into DL at Tomorrowland or walk through DTD to get to the Main Entrance for both parks. It may sound confusing, but once you get there it will make sense.

If you stay on Harbor and closer to the parks, you would just do the opposite. Either walk down Harbor to Katella then DL Dr for the race or cut through DTD and the parking lot down DL Dr to the staging area/start line.

To give you an idea of distances, DTD from Harbor to the DL Hotel is b/w 1/3 and 1/2 mile, from the corner of Harbor and Katella to the starting area is about 2/3 of a mile. It was easier before they started building Carsland if you were staying on Katella, b/c there was a shuttle you could catch by going in the parking lot across from the Convention Center, but now Cars is there so no more for that.

It may sound a little overwhelming never being there before, but the parks are together and the hotels pretty much all surround the parks. Once you get there it won't be that hard to figure stuff out. Plus race morning if you do stay on Harbor, you'll see tons of people treking out to the start so you can just follow them!

Another thing to think about is that if you're going to the parks for a few days, it would probably be easier to stay on Harbor then walk from Katella every day and night, b/c the race is only 1 morning. Yeah, you might be sore afterwards but if you go to the park after the race and Monday, your legs will thank you for the little less mileage. :) Plus, they might have shuttle race weekend. If you look at the DL 1/2 website, they have a transportation link has a map that'll list hotels that the shuttle will stop at Friday through Sunday. The shuttles will take you to the Harbor Entrance. They don't have anything up for the Tinkerbell yet, but, at least for the race weekend, you won't have to walk far if they stay the same and you stay on Katella.

Thanks, Kim for the information. I talked to my daughter today (she's in WDW for a birthday). She is fine with where ever we stay. I think that we would be better off staying on South Blvd because of the convenience for the couple of extra days that we will be going to DL. Without knowing how far everything is laid out, it is hard to know the distances to walk to and from the race. I guess we'll see it when we get there! Now I just need to select a hotel. Oh, yes, I guess I also need to do some training! Thanks again.

I officially registered today. I used my princess time of 2:57:05 but I don't know if it will help or hurt me since I put my predicted time at 2:35, but I am doing a 10k next month anyway so I can update it then.
I did a practice 10K today, but it wasn't one of my best. I am really worrying about the heat and an August 27th 10K. :scared1:

We stayed at the Carousel last year for the Disneyland 5K and almost slept past the start! :scared1: We did NOT appreciate the run before the run but it all turned out OK!

We just signed up for this and it will be our first half marathon! My fiance is such a champ, lol!

Hope that everyone is managing to stay cool in the heat! :cool2: Thank goodness our race isn't coming up for awhile.

I noticed that registration is now 69% full -- the Disneyland races seem to fill up faster so if anyone is on the fence you may want to think about registering soon. :goodvibes

Six months from tomorrow we will be doing our race! :cool1: :tink:

As of 7-25 the race is now 73% full. It will be interesting to see if there is a spike in registration this week since the DL half was featured on last night's extreme makeover weight loss edition.

I hope everyone's training is going well! :tinker:

Oooh! I will have to download it and watch! :thumbsup2

I will have to look that episode up! I'm glad my sister and I are already signed up.

I do agree the DL races fill up much quicker, I wonder if they have less spots available since they don't have the space that WDW has??
