Official Tinker Bell Half Marathon 2012 thread

I will have to look that episode up! I'm glad my sister and I are already signed up.

I do agree the DL races fill up much quicker, I wonder if they have less spots available since they don't have the space that WDW has??

I've wondered if they have a lower capacity too. I saw somewhere that the last DL half had 14,000. I'm not sure what the capacity is for the WDW races. LisaH is on vacation right now so I was trying to keep an eye on the registration in case anyone out there hasn't registered yet!

Hi everyone,
I'm getting ready for the DL 1/2 and of course our Tinker Bell race....I used my very small SPIbelt in the last couple of races and I need something larger for my iphone4 now. Looking for suggestions for something still small but will also hold a couple of items.
What has worked for you guys and any suggestions would be great.
Thanks
Vicki

I used the double pouch iFitness belt for the princess and loved it. I have an HTC HD7 and I put it in one of the pouches with 2 packs of shot bloks and some tissue and put my Kodak playsport video camera in the other.
I am planning on getting one of these http://www.ifitnessinc.com/index.php?_a=viewCat&catId=15 before the Tinker Bell. Disney does a great job of providing water but I found that I always wanted it about a quarter to a half a mile before they offered it so I plan to carry my own for those times. Plus I wanted the toggles to hold my bib.
I had a SPI belt but I personally didn't like it. I had to make sure my phone was laying just right or it would flip and bounce the whole time I ran. Since the iFitness belt is made from neoprene I didn't have that problem with it.

SummerIrmoma2_3......Thanks for the link and information. I will check those belts out !!

Just registered DD and myself for the Tinkerbell!! I was worried that we would get shut out. We are also doing the Princess in February since we want to stay perfect Princesses. Thought this would be the best chance to get our Coast to Coast medals. Now, airline tickets!! UGH!!

Six months from tomorrow we will be doing our race! :cool1: :tink:

Oops! I was wrong when I posted this -- it was six months until the Expo started. :sad2: That is one of the things that I don't like about the RunDisney countdowns -- they don't countdown the race.

I think that you may be right, Lisa, since so much of the race is off Disney property. Thanks for keeping an eye on things! :flower3:

It's 78% full as of a bit ago.

I second the iFitness belt. I have a double pouch as well as a single that holds gels -- I would like to have a pouch with water this year because I think that would be a help for me. The single pouch fits the iPhone perfectly as well as room key, Clif Bloks, etc. Just be aware that they did have a sizing issue with a waist band that is a little snug, especially for us folks who need to lose some weight. ;)

Southwest is having a sale now -- just got my tickets today. :cool1:

They just came out with some RunDisney merchandise at the Disney Store. Looks like they are adopting the Disney Parks philosophy and making things more generic. I hope they have more race specific things at the Expo. :tink:

I just saw that its at 78%, we are filling up fast!

I got an amphipod belt, it has a small pouch and holds 1 20 oz water bottle, they also have belts that hold 2 smaller water bottles. I really like it, especially having the water for longer runs. I plan on using it for the Tink, it will nice to have my own water or sports drink, depending on what works best for me.

Welcome back Lisa!

They usually do, at least through this year's WDW Marathon they did. I think they'll have both the generic and race specific ones. Especially w/ it being an inagural race. They have too! We'll know next month after the DL 1/2. :goodvibes

Now I just have to figure out whether I'm going to leave on Sunday or Monday, and whether I'll go in to the parks on Monday. Decisions, decisions!! :rotfl2:

At last year's Half I saw a "Training for 2011" shirt but I didn't buy it becasue I figuered I could get it online but I never saw it again. :sad1: I won't make that mistake again. I hope they have a "Training for Tink" shirt.

Welcome back Lisa!

I've been wearing the single bottle amphipod belt too for the last year and I love it! It's a really comfortable and versatile belt in my opinion. Last year I bought an extra little velcro pouch to slide on and then this summer with the horrendous heat I've had to add 2 of the smaller bottles...and I love them because I can slide them to a comfortable position and I can even make it to where they snap in vertically or horizontally. It's a great system and had held up really well...I wear it for every run, short or long.

Thanks for posting the link to the merchandise. It's nice to see but I wish they had the Run Disney 2012 not 2011..... since it's Aug already.

Last year at the DL 1/2 I was able to pick up a cute blue "In training for the DL 1/2 Marathon 2011" running shirt. I have yet to wear it, I just have it hanging on one of my dressers to motivate me year round. I think I'll wear it on our way down to DLR for the race.

I do hope they have Tink merchandise at the race expo to buy.

I'm also going down to the D 23-Expo in Anaheim in a couple of weeks...I REALLY doubt that they will be promoting the Tink 1/2 but you never know. I'll post if they are doing something.

Exactly! I might have caved, even at the rididonkulous price of $35, if it said 2012.

Talked to the rundisney people at the RnR Expo yesterday. He said that they'll have the medal at DL next month!!! Can't wait to see it in person.I'll take pics and post them up. :tink:

I am pretty disappointed in what they have to offer :sad2: I so wanted a "princess in training" shirt last year and they never offered it. These do not tempt me at all, but I guess that is a good way to save some money for my trip. ;)

The heat has been beyond rediculous. I only did 5 miles on Friday evening and I drank my whole 1.5L camel back. I am really regretting signing up for teh Lake Houston 10K at the end of the month.

I found this article http://land.allears.net/blogs/lauragilbreath/2011/04/new_disneyland_race_the_tinker_1.html while looking for a picture of the Tink necklace.

It says there are only 10,000 spot for this race. Last year's Disneyland Half Marathon had 14,000 and I think this year it's 15,000.

Also has a picture of the bib. :)

I am going to have to go check the bib out. :thumbsup2 I know they said at the Princess this year that there were over 16,000 runners.

I just registered for the Tinker Bell Half today and I am SO excited! This will be my second Half (I just ran the San Francisco 2nd Half last week) and I can't wait to get to actually run IN Disneyland! I've always gotten yelled at when I run in Disneyland before...

I'm so excited!

Registration is now at 84% full -- looks like our race will be full soon! :tink:

Hopefully we will have some training plans from Jeff Galloway in the not too distant future. :thumbsup2

I saw the Tinker Bell medal on Facebook at the RunDisney page. It's so pretty!!!! I'm so excited. I'm running, for the first time, the Disneyland half marathon in 4 weeks.:scared1: but also :woohoo:
