Official Thread For Upcoming Eastern Canadian Cruises

I don't remember the price, but I wanted to say I think your kids (and you) would really enjoy the Maple Sugar Shack experience in Saint John. You get to see a lot of the country side going back and forth and the Maple Sugar Shack excursion was wonderful. Myself and my dd11 thoroughly enjoyed it and it seemed like everyone else that went did as well.

This sounds like a nice excursion! Would you say there are any photography opportunities on this trip and how was the food?

Thanks!

There were photography opportunities while at the sugar shack. All others would be through the bus windows; however, I did take several that way so I guess it depends on what type of photography you wanted to take. I took some of the countryside, the ferry, a few houses, landmarks, etc and then of course a lot at the excursion itself. The pancakes and sausage were very yummy! Homemade right then and there.

Thank you so much for posting the Navigators! Wow - they are so easy to read I feel like I'm holding it in my hand. :thumbsup2

Thank you for sharing! I'm getting so excited for our upcoming trip thanks to you :)

Hello everyone. My husband and I booked the cruise less than a week ago for September 7. I was looking at some of the excursions and noticed the kayak and lobster bake in St John. Anyone done this one? Thoughts?

Hi everyone -
As our family's cruise date is getting close I am trying to plan what we will be doing on port days.

In Halifax NS - the Magic will be at Pier 22 according to the Port of Halifax website, yet I am unable to locate a street address for the pier. I am trying to see on google maps which various attractions will be in walking distance for our family, and since there are so many to choose from, I am trying to plan our walking route accordingly.

Does anyone know which street you are nearest too after you disembark?

Thanks in advance :)

When you come out of the terminal you will haved easy access to the boardwalk the runs along the waterfront. You can also access Lower Water Street quite easily.

Its the Northern End of Marginal Road. Look on Google Maps for the Mary E Black Galley and that is the approx location. Just a note, that google maps uses the sidewalks for walking and not the boardwalks on the water. So walking distances may be less.

When you come out of the port, you will turn right. There is a Farmer's Market at the end of the series of buildings. And as Declansdad said, the Boardwalk is easily accessible.

Remember to print your maps as you can't access google maps on your phone (unless you have an international phone plan/good data rates, I guess!)

There were maps of Halifax available after you went thru the turnstiles at an info booth right there. These were better than the ones on the ship.

Not sure of the ages of those in your party but it's uphill walking. Someone had suggested taking a taxi to your farthest point (ie: Citadel) and walking down.

We ultimately used the HOHO bus and it was worth it as my 78 year old mom was with us. It got us to where we wanted to go and we did a few loops. The guides on the bus were friendly and answered any questions we had.

Hope this helps!

We are sailing on August 12 :)
We have two state rooms, but I am unsure if doors to the staterooms are close together or seperated by hallway "wall" (If I remember from my last cruise there were groups of two doors together, then hallway space, then another group of two doors)
Anyway - my kids will be in the room next to ours and since we were unable to book connecting rooms, we had to do it this way -
If someone could take a picture of room 7035 and 7037 so I can see how close the doors are to each other I would really appreciate it - if the doors are further apart I might reconsider our sleeping arrangements.
Thanks in advance :)

Based on the deck 7 floor plan (click here), it looks like 7037 and 7039 are in the little nook together and 7035 is on the other side of that separation.

hi - just got back - fyi - the walk to the citadel is steep - we did a step approach - uphill too blocks - across one - uphill two - was a little tough w/small kids - it was doable - but if we did it again we would use a taxi - shorten up the walk time

If you are going on the Magic this will be a bigger picture of the decks.
Click on the Magic, then click on the deck you want to view.
On the Magic the cabins are next to each other but the doors are on opposite ends.

Thanks for the responses -
I am a little bit bummed :(
We booked the day the cruise was released, and I really wanted connecting rooms - that didn't pan out - and the travel agent did the best she could -
Oh well - I guess we will figure it out once we board -

We are in our 40's and kids range in age from 11-26 <gasp> - I am seriously considering the HOHO bus - thanks for sharing your thoughts :)

Thanks for all of the information contained in this thread! It has been immensely helpful in trying to plan our visit to your area - and we will almost be able to feel like locals with all of the "insider" info all of you have supplied :) I can't believe it, but I did manage to read each and every post :)

- Many thanks to Herman Triplets + 1 for the map link in post # 46

- Love the iea of stopping in at the casion to give them my money ;) - great idea in post # 83

- Post # 531 - Great link for Tom's port guide - going to download it to my Ipad and it will be very useful since we are going to see the sights on our own!

- For the poster who mentioned Carlos Bakery - I didn't see any response to your question - if you haven't cruised yet, here is my $.02 - skip it. First of all it isn't particularly convenient to get to - you would have to ferry across (thinking that would be the best option) and then you would have a bit of a hike if you were to walk there -
Secondly - you will waste many hours waiting online to get insiide to buy something. It won't taste any better than anything you can get at any other bakery in NY - I would just ask someone local to wherever you are staying where the closest bakery is and head there - and if you like Italian pastry and will be staying in NY - you will find many options :)

And my last question - can anyone give a cross street for the location of Bud the Spud's French Fry truck on Spring Garden Road? I really want to try the french fries on our walk back to port after our day in Halifax!

If I remember correctly cat. 11's do not connect which is why you couldn't book connecting cabins.

Anxious to hear reviews of the Peggy's Cove/Titanic excursion in Halifax. We are very interested in Titanic history so we booked this excursion. I'm wondering if we should book a private tour to maximize our time at the historic Titanic areas (Fairview, Maritime Museum). I'm worried they will rush us at Fairview. If we stick with the DCL tour, is there still time to walk to the Maritime Museum and spend some time there?

TIA for any feedback!

I noticed it on our way back from the public gardens. I don't recall the street name, but it's on the street where the main gates to the gardens are on the west side of the park (or at least the left side of the map) a block or two up from the port.

The walk uphill is quite the grade for a few blocks, but then it flattens out.
