Official thread for the 2010 Princess 1/2 Marathon & 5k- REGSITRATION IS OPEN!

Thanks Disney Mommy and wtpclc for the Facebook information!

Sure thing! :thumbsup2

I've been avoiding this thread 'cause I am so bummed but-

I can't do it this year. Maybe next. $120 for registration and I can't do the race. Next year I am waiting to register!

Pool Therapy PT starts tomorrow for Fibromyalgia. My muscles have a real hard time recovering from a workout so it is taking a lot longer than normal to get back up to speed and endurance. The good part is that I was able to do a 5 mile walk @ 3.5 MPH which is the most done in a couple of years.

I still am going to WDW and will cheer you all on, especially the last couple hundred.

I'm so sorry you won't be able to do the race. Just concentrate on getting better and you'll be that much stronger for next year's race. Hope I see you out there.

The bib number/pace thread is updated to here.

Twingle - no pronblem, although I don't know if that was really the link you wanted. :flower3:

Wish I lived.. - SO sorrry you can't do this race. You'll get there, though!

Blake - Glad you found it. We didi get e-nmails telling us where to get it, but didn't have to go through there.

I'll be wwearing my WISH shirt. Raelly missed having it on last year. Odd, I know, but ttrue. then, *I think* I'll wear my pink polka dots skirt with matching bow. That shirt has capris with it, though, so not sure if it will eb too hot. :confused3 Oh, may get ears too.

I posted this way back in the early days of this thread, but we have a team of 7 WISHers running!

We are all staying at BWV:

3DisneyKids (Erika) - Bib # 2101
SeptemberGirl (Liz)
HockeyKat (Kat)
Goofyfan-12 (Paula)
AKASnowWhite (Nancy)
amykab (Amy)
adstrw (Amiee)

We will all be wearing specially designed team shirts and not our Wish shirts for this race. Look for us in bright blue with Team Goddess on the shirt!

I will likely be at the meet at POR on Saturday, hope to meet many of you there! :goodvibes

I will likely stop by with Erika. Looking forward to meeting you all!

Hi, Shawna! I'll be doing the race solo, and I also plan to use the run/walk combo that I've been training for. I would absolutely love to be your sidekick, if you haven't already found a partner!! I'm sure I will next some encouragement on race day, and will have lots to give!!

That would be awesome! :cheer2:

I know the meet up is at POR but where? the food court or lobby?

I know this is a silly question but what is everyone's favorite sports bra for running? I'm a D/DD depending on the bra and have yet to find my absolutely fave sports bra. I've read some good things on the new Champion one but figured I would ask.

saw this on a post last year and thought it was a good one to post!

You might be a penguin if...

you have to politely (for the third time) tell the men in the police car moving behind you that No you do not wish a ride.
you wear your jog bra on top of your singlet. This is especially true if you are male.
during a race, you keep turning around to see if there is still anybody behind you.
the rest of the pack is out of sight before you've run 100 yards.
you meet both the hare AND the tortoise running back towards you doing their cool-down after a race.
the only reason you don't drop out of a race is that you're embarrassed that the police in the car behind you (closing the course) will see you.
as you're rounding the corner onto Main Street and the finish line, you overhear the announcer on a microphone to the crowd of 500 saying "we are ASSURED the young lady IS coming in!" (Oh well, at least I was young).
you recognize all the regular runners on your favorite route from behind.
you get passed on the uphill by a runner pushing a double baby jog stroller.
you shoot a 24-shot roll of film during a marathon.
you make arrangements for a late checkout at the hotel.
you are more worried about the porta-potty lines than the start line.
your support crew talks about meeting you for supper, not lunch.
you have to memorize the route because you know that you will lose the back of the pack.
the truck picking up the cones is pressing on your behind. (Don't laugh—this actually happened to me!)
as you pass a course volunteer they ask you, "How many are behind you yet?" and you say "Behind me? Behind? Gosh ... I think two ... Unless they turned around!"
the awards ceremony is over before you cross the finish line.

Hi everyone, You guys have been chatty!! I need to catch up on like 10 pages -- i was hit hard with a stomach bug, and was knocked down for days.... i am finally feeling human again and wanting to eat -- so once again, my training is suffering.. what a tough training bout i have had!!

The POR meet is in the POR food court at 5pm -

I love teh Maia by Moving comfort. There's also a non underwire of teh samee (Fiona). The Champion ones tend to work well, but they are a pain to pull over your head when sweaty IMO.

Tina - Love it! In tri's I always just tell teh volunteers either "I shoudl eb the last one" or "I think there are 1 (or 2) behind me."

Stacy - SO glad you are feeling better!

Hello fellow Princess runners! I'm so excited to be doing a Disney race event for the first time. Some friends and I are doing the Royal Family 5k (with our sights on the half-marathon next year), and I have a question about transportation to the Expo...

Are there buses from the resorts to the Wide World of Sports for the Expo? We will be arriving at POR by Magical Express at around 1:00 or so Friday. We want to head over to the Expo ASAP, but wondered if there are buses or if we'll need to cab it over.

Thanks in advance! :goodvibes

Man... I'm away for a week and you guys have been so chatty:chat: Work has been crazy and I seem to have managed to have caught a cold, but I'm still training. Now to go back and catch up on everything you princesses have been yapping about :surfweb: I printed my waiver.. I have bib #7258... man, that makes everything feel so much more real now! :scared1:
I managed to get in my 7 mile run on Saturday and it was a great treadmill run (darn snowstorms) has anyone else been doing all of their training on a TM? I feel like I'm not going to be prepared for running on the streets if I don't get out there and do it, but my long runs have all been hampered by these darn snowstorms. I'm due to run 8 miles this weekend although I might try to go for 9... depends on how my legs feel... my lungs and heart have improved so much that my legs give out long before I feel tired these days.
Everything's coming together.. I got new shoes and some different types of gel and sports beans last weekend.... ordered a SPI belt and a running skirt last week and they came today:cool1:. Last night I learned why it's important to drink water during the day... my legs did not like me when I tried to go 4 miles on them without having had any water :scared: Won't be making that mistake again!!

ok.. off to catch up... you'll be hearing more from me later today :rolleyes1

Storminthe Castle - I can't remeber what the race hotels are. If OOR is one fo the race hotels, tehn there shoudl eb busing.. If not, you can bus to MGM and tehn to WWoS.

Kat - Thanks for that link. I like Champion, but all teh good ones I've found before are so hard to get off. May have to try that one!

sailors_wfe -:banana:Sounds liek you are doing great!!!! I'vve been able to do LRs outsdie, but I bet you are not alone in all TM. You'll be fine!

I have played around with a lot of different interval ratios and found that 1:1 works best for me. I am a little faster doing that than 2:1 because I can run faster during the running segments. I can do a 12:00 mile on a good day, but tend to average about 12:30 on most of my long runs. Yes, it is annoying to keep starting and stopping every minute, but you get used to it.

I use a script that I downloaded to insert a "ding" every minute in my itunes playlist. That keeps me from looking at my watch. That program is here: http://www.active.com/donate/tntntx/jeffwelch. I've taken a 170 beats per minute podcast and used a program called MP3 splitter (it's free for 30 days and I found it by googling MP3 splitter) to divide the podcast into 1 minute chunks. Then I used the script to insert the dings. It sounds complicated, but it isn't. PM me if you want me to walk you through it. Or, if enough of you would like the instructions I would be happy to post them here. I think most people just use a timer, but I can't hear them over my music and I don't want to drive the people around me crazy by beeping every minute.

Another useful tool is the run/walk pace calculator available here: http://runwithperseverance.blogspot.com/. It allows you to type in your walking pace, your running pace, and your intervals to determine a time goal. It is fun to play with.
Thanks for these tips.. this is EXACTLY what I'm looking for.. getting ready to PM you for more help... I couldn't get it figured out on my own

if you ladies don't mind another I'd love to join the two of you... I'm also doing a run/walk combo and seem to be around a 13min/mile pace right now. I'd love to have some people to help keeping each other going.

Quick question for those of you who've had fmaily/friends sign up for the ChEar Squad...Has anyone received any e-mails/newsletters yet? I signed my DH up, but he's yet to get anything. Just curious!
I signed up DH this weekend for the bronze package and he hasn't gotten anything

GREAT reminder... LOVE it :lmao:

still trying to convnice DH to meet a bunch of people at a hotel food court for dinner.. just doesn't get it:confused3:lmao:

I am a D/DD as well, and I found a great one. It's Champion, and I believe it is this one: http://www.championusa.com/Champion...men_SportsBras_Underwire-Champion/CH6242.aspx

Not to be weird and quote myself, but this is definitely the one I have. I love it, no bounce at all, still looks like a sports bra, but easy on/off since it goes on like a regular bra.

I just finished 3 miles on the TM, in 39:30. Best time yet. I did the first two miles at walk 2/run 1 intervals, and the last one at 1/1.

My shins hurt but not awful (they were in BAD shape on Mon night). I am planning to ice and advil for the day, and hope for the best.

I applaud anyone who can go 7 miles on a TM!!!!! :yay:
I've been doing some of my training on the TM but it's hard, it's seems like it goes on forever and ever....... I think the most I've done is 5 miles. I prefer to go outside for long runs but I also live in FL so it's do-able. I think if you have the incline on 1 or 2 to account for wind, etc you should be fine.

Good luck and hope you beat that cold!!

I have been wondering about the transportation to WWOS, I know they are supposed to go from the race hotels, is there a shuttle to each park from WWOS?

We were thinking we might head over to Epcot on Friday and were thinking about taking a mid day break and heading over to the Expo. Is there a WWOS bus that leaves from Epcot or would we have to to take the shuttle back to our hotel and then another to WWOS? Not sure if anyone might know from last year or other Disney marathons.

Needless to say, my running is not where I wanted it to be a month before the race, but what can you do?

My 'coach'/trainer/running partner/neighbor, had a baby several months ago so my 'training' has gone out the window. The weather here has been terrible so I've done a lot of training on the treadmill. I've been doing a 8 min run/1 min walk combo, and it's been working well for me. I know I'm not the type to run, run, run for 13 miles so the run/walk combo is best for me!

Well, I will quit my rambling, but I just wanted to stop by and say hello! I do have to say that the WISH motto is keeping me going! At least I am signed up and I am going to run. Even if I walk more than I planned, I will still finish!
Welcome back Army Wife! I'd say it sounds like you are doing great! Nothing wrong with walking breaks... I know I'll never be able to run the whole time either.. I've been playing around with intervals, but there's no way I could run for 8 mins straight.. way to go!:worship:
I love the WISH motto..it keeps me going too!

so I thought this would be a cute idea.... I was thinking after my mom and I finish the race we would get mickey ears hat and put 13.1 on the back instead of our names! just wanted to share!
I love this idea.. hope you don't mind if I copy you :) I was even thinking of using this idea but using the princess ears they have out there now (i think it has a little crown on top with a veil?) and wearing those for the race:confused3

Bib number #8504...

Yikes - when did this get so real?
:rotfl: I agree!!! when the heck did this get so real... and so close!:scared1:

My mom is 8922 so I hope we are not gonna be to dead last! LOL I almost lost my mom as a partner.... she is very worried she/we will not be able to do this! I paid for her and told her she does not have to fell obligated to do it! she finally called me back today and she is gonna try! I told her hey if sh** happens and we get pulled at least we tried and thats more than some could say!
I love this outlook... at least you tried! :cheer2::cheer2:

Yeah....my sis (who is...or maybe WAS doing the Princess) just fell on an uneven sidewalk last weekend and broke her collarbone. The TM isn't quite as hard as concrete!

So sorry for your sis! Hope she feels better fast!

I got my 10 in today. Now I know I can do 13. It may not be pretty, but I can do it!!

Another reason for doing long runs at home, right, so you can make these silly mistakes on a day other than the Big Day?
!
Great job getting in the miles!! Of course you can finish this.. just think it's only another 3 miles further.. that's not too bad!

My walk/run today went well. Managed to do it outside, even though 45 is a bit chilly it really wasn't too bad.

So today at least, I am feeling like I might finish. :goodvibes
Great job! I can't stand running outside unless it's at least 50... and sunny LOL. You're doing great :cheer2:

we're offically one month out today from race day...just think, by this time next week, we'll all have our gorgeous tiara medals and have finished 13.1 in disney!

for all you northeasters - i think we are all in the same boat with the weather and we just gotta do what what can and make the best of it. if it makes anyone feel better, my first 13.1 i did completely running the furthest i went was 9 (i foolishly scheduled a 10-miler the week before the race and my body needed a taper week) and i finished right at my goal time. my father (pt specializing in sports/running, running coach, ironman triathlete, all around running guru) says for first timers, you really only need to go go 10 once, and 8 is the magic number (if you can do 8, you'll finish 13.1). he only encourages the longer 12s when your body is more used to the distance, and when you are training to race for a specific time goal. he says he prefers the distance newbies to have fresher muscles at race day. so it sounds like everyone is more than enough on the right path to finishing!!

Love this tip... it is so encouraging!!! Thanks for sharing!!:goodvibes

Hi Stormin'theCastle this will be my first 5K with my DMom (not her first 5K) and DSis (Marathoner and Triathloner)...hoping to keep up with them

From everything I have read, as POR is a host resort, there will be transportation to the EXPO and the race from the hotel. What I don't know is the schedule/how often, but I'm sure Guest Services will know when you check-in. And as a spectator when my DSis did the full marathon at Disney a few years back, I do remember she had transportation available to her as we were on property.

*** Took this from the Travel Details section on the WWoS Princess Weekend site ***
IMPORTANT! Race Transportation Information: Transportation to/from all race related events will be available for this event ONLY if you stay at the resorts listed above. No other race transportation will be provided from the WALT DISNEY WORLD® Resorts. You will have to provide your own transportation if you elect to stay at another resort.
******************************************************************

See you at the 5K :thumbsup2 Oh and don't forget to post your bib number and your friends' too on disney_mommy/Andrea's thread :goodvibes http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2393665
