Official thread for the 2010 Princess 1/2 Marathon & 5k- REGSITRATION IS OPEN!

I saw that last year there was a "Race Retreat" tent; my mom would really like to have this but I don't see any info on the disney website. Is this something that they would post later or are they not doing that this year? We also wanted to do the after party, but don't see any info on that either. :confused3

They will probably provide more info on that soon.. Mabye before the holidays incase someone wants to do it as a gift..

Oh that would be great, my mom is really looking forward to that tent!

So, it looks like we have about 4 months left, how is everyone's training going?

tried a 5 mile race after coming back from my fall half marathon. felt great during the race, even managed a pr of 5 miles in 48 minutes (which i still know isn't that great but i'm not a fast runner so i was pleased)...but clearly pushed too hard on the speed because my left knee is bugging me. it's only been a few days and we're months away, so i'm trying not to get too worried, but i don't want to be out of commission for a few weeks and have to start from square one again with training. my whole plan was to spend oct, nov, dec running 15-20 miles a week (about 2 4-mile runs during the week, with a longer run on the weekend from 5-8 miles) and start revving up my mileage in the new year. gah!

fashionista311 I'm no doctor, but I am just coming off an IT band injury. About a month after the Princess 1/2, I started with some pain behind my knee and I did NOT slow down and ended up not running for almost four months. After finally going to the doctor and then PT for a while, I'm running again, but limit myself to only three days a week and only on the treadmill. Take it easy-ice after a run, don't forget to cross train.

I really need to sign up for the race as I now feel confident that I will be able to run it after much rehab work. I do have my hotel and I look forward to running this race again and hopefully going for my Coast-to-Coast.

I'm looking at a 10k on Thanksgiving and trying to find a 5k before then. The last 5k I did I got 5th in my age group (I don't know out of how many, and really don't care :) ) So now my competitve side is peaking through, I wanta place! :rotfl:
My training has taken a great turn in the past two weeks, I have gotten my regular runs to 4.9 and my long run to 5.7

/
That is the course we ran this year, its called new as the first one had us running in RP.

I think that they might use the RP course for the new food and wine 1/2.

Hi everyone!

Milliepie in the creative DISigns forum made this graphic for me. We are going to put it on the back of our shirts. Millie said anyone is welcome to use it, if you are interested.

can anyone tell me what time the race starts and when i should be there?

The race may begin around 6-they haven't set the start time in stone. I would be there at least an hour before gun time.

I am hoping they keep it at 6am.. they changed it to 7 am last year due to we had to turn ahead the clock the night before (ya, like we need to lose sleep the night before the race!!) and for those of us that take a good 3 hrs to do the race, it was getting warm by 10'ish when we were finishing up around mile 11.. i would love to finish around 9 this time, so i am hoping for a 6am start.. to avoid the heat..

The TOT 13K was my 1st race beyond a 5K, but I had such a blast (and did much better than I expected), that I'm absolutely doing the Princess 1/2. Can't wait!

Wow, that looks like a packed week!
Can anyone tell me a little bit about the course?

I hope I'm not stepping on anyone's toes by doing this, but I thought I would post the transcript of yesterday's Endurance Series Chat, as it may answer some questions...I'm sure most of y'all have already checked it out, but I thought I would post it here anyway, just for ease of access....

Disney's Endurance Chat Series
Disney's Endurance Series Live Chat -
Thursday, October 29 at 1:00 p.m. EDT (60 minutes)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Columbus, Ohio: Hi, I am signed up for the Princess 1/2 in March and looking forward to it. I have not yet gotten a room, but I have heard that runners are not able to purchase a dinning plan. Can you explain the reasoning here? I am willing to pay for the plan, Disney food is wonderful; but without the plan I will not be eating Disney food I'll be packing my own. I know others are also not happy about this situation.

Kecia: Hello - unfortunately, because the rooms are specially priced we are not able to offer Dine Plan with these packages. If you definitely want Dine Plan, you will need to rebook your hotel at the rack rate, purchase the full priced theme park tickets, and then you can add Dine Plan. Unfortunately this is a systems issue and we hope to be able to offer this as an option in the future! Just make sure that if you do rebook - consider still staying at a host hotel so you can take advantage of the event transportation.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Charlie (Miami, FL): I am staying at the All Star Sports location. Is there free transportation to the race start?

Kecia: Hi Charlie - if you're referring to the WDW Marathon Weekend event, we do offer event transportation from all Disney Resort hotels. See you then!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Clarice, Norcorss, Ga: Does Princess 1/2 Marathon end inside Epcot or ourside?

Kecia: Hello Clarice - the Princess 1/2 Marathon runs through Epcot and finishes just outside in the parking lot areas. You will run through Magic Kingdom and Epcot!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

kelly, anchorage alaska: i will be coming from alaska and not arriving untill late friday night for the princess 1/2. can someone else pick up my bib for me?

Kecia: Hi Kelly - you will be able to pick up your race packet all day on Saturday as the Princess 1/2 Marathon is on Sunday morning. Thanks -

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Milwaukee WI: Is the Princess Half Marathon only for women?? If not, what percentage of guys participate???

Kaia: Mil, In the inaugural year of the Princess Half Marathon, we had roughly 200 Princes join us for the race.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Clarice, Norcross, GA: I heard last year there was a big party at MGM on SUnday evening after the race...Will there be a party after the race this year? Evening or right after?

Mary: Clarice, Yes, there was the Happily Ever After Party last year after Princess. Yes, there are plans in 2010 for an evening party following the race.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Shelby (Acworth, GA): I will be running the Princess Half and am just wondering if the lines to take pictures with the characters are usually pretty long? Will slow down your running time? Are there opportunities to take pictures with the characters after the race so that you don't worry about going over the 16 minute per mile threshold?

Matt: Shelby, Please try to maintain the 16 minute per mile pace. There will be opportunities at the Finish Line to take pictures with characters.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Charlie, Miami: When I registered on Active for the race, I submitted my time from a 1/2 marathon earlier this year. Is that adequate proof or do I need something else to do?

Kecia: Hi Charlie - you are fine! If you'd like to submit a faster time you may do so by bringing to the Expo and going to the Runner Relations desks and they can help you if you should be in a faster corral.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Kim (Tolland, CT): When will the January 5k course be available for viewing?

Matt: Kim, The UP & Away 5K course map is currently available at www.disneyworldmarathon.com under the Event Details/Course section.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Rob, CA: Is it possible to still get a medal if you don't finish the race?

Kaia: Rob, Our medals are ridiculously gorgeous. We think they make a great carrot to make it to the Finish Line. (Ok, so we're a little biased.) For those that love the bling but don't like the sweat, we offer a medal replica pin at the Expo!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Karen (Derwood, MD): I can't find the course map on the www.princesshalfmarathon.com. Were should I look? It is probably right in front of me & I missed it.

Matt: Karen, Please select the Event Details tab on the left and then click on Course for the map.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Nela Nicholasville,Ky: Is there going to be a party the night of the Princess Half Marathon? If so, where? Also, where can I find out about reduced price theme park tickets for that weekend?

Kecia: Hi Nela - yes there is! We will host it at Disney's Hollywood Studios on Sunday evening beginning at 7pm. Tickets will go on sale in the next couple months on our website www.disneyprincesshalfmarathon.com. On our website - there is also information about how to purchase discounted theme park tickets if you click on the Travel Details page. See you soon!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Milwaukee WI: Please explain the Half Marathon Relay.

Stacy: It will be a 2 person relay. Runner 1 starts and meets runner 2 at the exchange zone. Runner 2 will then finish the race. Runner 1 will be transported to the Finish.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Paula (pembroke pines, fl): Since it will most likely be cold up there, I was wondering what would be appropriate attire for the full marathon?

Kaia: Paula, It might be a good idea to bring layers. Many of our runners choose to wear 'disposable' clothes, opting to peel a layer and toss it as they warm up. As a side note, we do collect the clothes, launder them and donate them to a charity.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mark, Indianapolis, IN: What flavor drink and Cliff product will be on the Marathon course? Looking forward to January!

Matt: Mark, We will be offering Clif Shots and Lemon/Lime PowerAde along the Marathon course.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Scott Tasca: Ok, I'm registerd for the Marathon on Jan. 10th. Besides training, what should I be doing next? What e-mail or packages should I be expecting?

Matt: Scott, Look forward to the monthly newsletters and Final Race Instructions and make sure to book your travel at www.disneyworldmarathon.com

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Robin (Minneapolis, MN): Can you provide more information on the route for the Princess Half? Also, what will the medal look like? Will it differ at all from the first year medal?

Mary: Robin, The course map has been posted at www.disneyprincesshalfmarathon.com. The medal will be in the shape of a Tiara.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dan, Red Bank NJ: For the Marathon weekend, will there be transportation from all Disney Properties, including Saratoga Springs?

Matt: Dan, Yes, we will be providing transportation from all of the Walt Disney World Resorts.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Lorree - Vancouver, WA: Greetings! Will the Wine & Dine half qualify along with the Disneyland half for a Coast-to-Coast medal?

Mary: Lorree, Yes, if you complete the 2010 Disneyland Half Marathon and then the Wine & Dine Half Marathon, you will be eligible for the Coast to Coast Medal.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Lori (Richmond, VA): I'm staying at the Beach Club Villas for the 1/2 marathon in January. The DVC cast members said that I would be able to walk to the start line from there. Is that correct? How far is it? Thanks!

Matt: Lori, Unfortunately, you will not be able to walk to the start line. You will have to use the Transportation that will be provided.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

: If you are running for a charity who do you submit your "proof of time" too.

Kecia: Hello - please submit the proof of time to your charity or whomever registered you for the event. Thanks -

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

diane Moncton NB Canada: are there kilometre as well as mileage markers? Goofy Runs

Matt: Diane, The course will only be marked with Mile Markers.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sean. New Ringgold.PA: How come the past 5k fun run times were not posted?

Kaia: Sean, We use "Fun Run" as code for untimed race....hence, no results to post. Currently, the only timed 5ks in our portfolio are the ESPN 5k and the 5k in the Expedition Everest Challenge.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dana Zweibel Brandon, FL: Is there going to be an ESPN the Weekend 5k in 2010

Chris: Dana, Yes, we will be hosting this 5K on February 27, 2010. Registration will open soon.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

John, Littleton, CO: My daughter are first time 1/2 Marathon participants. What type of pace must we keep to not be swept off the course. How does that equate to the percentage of walking versus running time (80% walking/20% running?)

Matt: John, All participants must be able to maintain the 16 minute per mile pacing requirements throughout the entire race.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Barbara, Manchester, UK: How do I submit a prove of time for the half in January? Thanks

Mary: Barbara, You will need to bring your proof of time with you to the Expo and submit them at the "Runner Relations" Booth.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Fond du Lac WI: If I sign up for the half marathon and as the race gets close, realize that I can only do the 5K , can I change??

LBV: FDL, I'm not sure which race weekend your inquiry is in reference to but in general, if there is availability in the 5k, you are welcome to register. Please understand though, refunds/transfers are not available for the race that you opt out of.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dana (Roswell, Georgia): Since the start time is 10PM (is that really correct?) for the Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon, when will the Exclusive After Hours Party at the Epcot International Food & Wine Festival take place? I would've thought the race would take place in the morning and the after hours party would be that evening.

Kecia: Hi Dana - thanks for the question. It's actually a night race, so the exclusive Food & Wine party is after the race inside Epcot until the wee hours :)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Charlie (Miami, FL): What is the spacing for water/drink stations? Every mile?

Matt: Charlie, Please refer to the course map on the website for the locations of the aid stations.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

cherie Harrisburg pa: How many people will walk? How does one keep safe from "sweeps'? Training tips?

Chris: Cherie, We don't have a true number as to how many people walk. You will need to keep the 16 minute per mile pace throughout the race. Please refer to the training programs located on www.Active.com

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dan Ortiz Orlando Fl: What energy drink will be available? Will it be watered down? Will it be powdered? Just trying to use the same type of drink and flavor for my long runs. Thanks for all your help

Matt: Dan, We provide Lemon Lime PowerAde along the course. it is in powdered form and it is diluted. The PowerAde provided at the Finish is in bottle form.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Nick (Elmhurst, IL): I have registered for the full marathon and want to run the goofy (through an availabe spot with a charity). Do I need to pay the full amount for the goofy since I have already paid for the full marathon or can I run the 1/2 for a charity and pay the additional fee to register for the goofy?

Kecia: Hi Nick - actually you would need to register through a charity for Goofy and then we could refund your full marathon registration once you've successfully registered with the charity. However, the charity deadline to have all entries in is tomorrow. So, I would contact the charities quickly.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

LT, Vancouver WA: Greetings! Will the Wine & Dine half marathon be part of the Coast-to-Coast series?

Mary: LT, Yes, if you run the 2010 Disneyland Half Marathon and then the Wine & Dine Half Marathon, you will be part of the Coast to Coast Challenge.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mike, Alpharetta Ga: The Mens Marathon 2010 shirts seem to be sold out! Is this true? :(

Matt: MIke, Unfortunately, this is true. More "In Training" shirts will be available during the Expo.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Pam, Sicklerville, NJ: How do we submit proof of time? I entered my time based on finish time for Princess 1/2 marathon but never showed "proof" Do I need to complete another step?

Kecia: Pam, You can email your results to us at disneysports@trackshack.com up until January 1, 2010. If you need to submit them after this date, you will need to bring those results with you to packet pickup.

Mary: All Participants, We recommend the training plans available at Active.com

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Elizabeth Fort Washington, PA: Where does the Princess 1/2 Marathon begin and end. Is there a course map we I could consult?

Stacy: Elizabeth, The Princess 1/2 Marathon will begin and end at Epcot. A course map is currently available at www.disneyprincesshalfmarathon.com

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Jennifer, Charleston, SC: This will be my first time running a Half Marathon. What type of exciting events will be going on along the race course to help keep me going

Kathleen: Jennifer, We will have a variety of Entertainment on the course that will include bands, Disney Characters, etc.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Kecia: Rebecca, Yes, the Princess 1/2 Marathon course is the same as the course for the Walt Disney World Half Marathon. However, the course Entertainment is themed for Princesses.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Zouhdi (Plymouth, MA): My wife and I are concerned about getting our registration materials for the kids race and 5K on 1/8/10. We're arriving late on 1/7/10, staying at the Animal Kingdom Lodge. Is it possible to have our materials sent to us at home or to the hotel.

Kaia: Susan, We're really excited about the Inaugural Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon weekend. Of course, its still a work in progress but this is what we have so far... 1. 10PM start time. (Hurrah for us night owls!) 2. The course will include three theme parks. 3. 2-person relay with an exchange at the first theme park. ...and yes, this is all subject to change. You knew that was coming right?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sheryl (Somerset, NJ): This is my first half marathon and I am very excited. I have two questions. Will friends and family be able to track our progress online? Second, are we allowed to wear headphones during the race?

Stacy: Sheryl, good luck in your training! All of our half marathons offer "Runner Tracking Live Results" through Active.com. Usually a link is available on our website a month before the event for your friends to find you and sign up for text or email updates during the race. They can also sign up on site at the Expo before the race. We discourage the use of headphones for safety reasons due to audio messages along the course, but you will not be disqualified for using them.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Seaside Heights, NJ: I am looking for a 5k run at disney! Is the Royal Family 5k timed?

Lake Buena Vista: Seaside Heights, We have several 5ks at the Walt Disney Resort, many held the same weekend as our longer races. The Royal Family 5k event is a fun run and is not timed. However, the ESPN 5k will be timed and registration will open in a matter of days.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Chandra Claycomb (Palm Bay, FL): I try to train with the fuel that will be available or the race course and if it doesn't agree with me, I will bring my own. Could you provide the type of fuel that will be available on the marathon course?
