Official thread for the 2010 Princess 1/2 Marathon & 5k- REGSITRATION IS OPEN!

I am definately in for this race again. I have BCV booked but have not registered yet. Look forward to chatting with everyone!

Becky

Welcome!

I am not registered nor have I booked my room! You are way ahead of me! I have started running more.

Does anyone know what the discounted price is on theme park tickets for registered runners?

I can't be 100% sure but I think I bought my mom a 4-day pass for around $135 or so. I remember it being a GREAT deal! I purchased right on the WDW sports site. You needed a pass code. Not sure if that has been released yet. A nice Diser passed it along to me. As we get closer, lots of info starts pooring in and we all share.

I have started to pretrain. I have been walk/running 3 miles 3 or 4 times a week. This past week, I alternated walking and running every half mile. This coming week I am aiming to run .6 and walk .4 for 3 miles.

Great start!

I just booked at BLT for race weekend. I need to register for the race still...

Hi Everyone,
It is now official. My DD and I have just signed up for the Princess Half. We have booked OKW (DVC members and home resort) for the marathon weekend. We are so excited and a bit nervous. We both did the 5K last year and really wanted to do the Half.
We have been keeping up with the walking and wogging so we will start our vigorous training within the next month or so.
I am looking forward to keeping up with everyone here as we work towards our March goal.

Hey all! I haven't been posting in awhile, things were pretty hectic around here. But I ran a 5K in the middle of September and medaled! Third place female in my age group, wahoo! I wasn't very fast, actually, but it was a small race. Still, the medal boosted my self esteem. I'll take it!
I also went on a road trip vacation in Florida with my boyfriend, visiting friends in Tallahassee, visiting Cocoa Beach/Kennedy Space Center, and doing an evening in Downtown Disney before we left. We didn't do Disney World because we're coming back for the race in March, but I GOT ENGAGED in Cocoa Beach, so it didn't even matter! At least Downtown Disney was a little taste of the trip to come!
Now for the not so good news. I have sciatica! On Monday my boyfriend (err, fiance. I still have to get used to saying that!) and I ran at the gym, and when I was done I had some soreness in my bum on the right side. I had soreness there before after runs so I didn't think much of it and stretched it out like I usually do. Except this time, by the time I got home I could barely get out of the car. Not long after that I couldn't even walk without having ridiculous pain and crying, even when I just tried to move my leg. Anyway last night I visited the doctor and he said I've got sciatica and prescribed me lots of pain pills. It's better today but he warned me that it will likely return so I'll need to be careful. I'm going to take a break from running for the next few days, maybe a week, but I am not giving up on my training!
Hope all is well with everyone, and I'll be sure to catch up on missed posts this week!

First of all, CONGRATS on your engagement! That's wonderful news!!! How exciting!
Secondly, congrats on doing so well in the 5K...that's doggone awesome!!:woohoo:
I'm sorry to hear about the sciatica...it sounds very painful. I sure hope that it doesn't return, and that you'll be able to stay on track with your running!:thumbsup2

Just as an FYI for everyone, check the airfares -- we booked yesterday for March, thru Southwest, the flight had gone up three times since i had checked yesterday.. We are offically booked for 11 nights at POR!!!

I finally caught up on posts!

First of all swim-mom, wow! Still training after surgery! You're an inspiration to us all...

Secondly, I checked the Disney site for the race and saw that the resort prices for racers has gone up about $15-$20 for value/moderate. I guess it makes sense, although I didn't really expect that to happen. Do they continue to go up as the race gets closer? For that reason we're going to book soon, anyway.

QUESTION...about host resorts. Does one have to book through Disney Sports Travel to use the transportation to the race and expo? I got a pin this morning (my first EVER) so I booked All-Stars Movie.

I finally caught up on posts!

Thanks :lovestruc I cant take all of the credit, I had an amazing Dr. who told me that being active prior to surgery is a blessing. I am only running/walking 3.1 miles every other day or 3-4 days a week depending on what is going on with my family. Although I am still at turtle pace, I have gone from 45 min (my first time back running) to 39 minutes. I take it as a huge accomplishment that I am doing so good.

I picked a running program that is 14 weeks, which will have me start on November 29th (the sunday after thanksgiving-LOL). My goal is to just finish it!!!

I have to admit that as much as I would love to keep the "princess medal" I am giving it to my Dr. for helping me accomplish my goal. There is always next years too that can be all mine

Joan, No, i don't think you have to book thru WDW sports -- we didn't last year, but stayed at a host hotel and got on the bus.. :)

I need to catch up on posts/new people, been battling a nasty bout of Bronchitus (sp?) which has seriously side lined me... but hoping now that the meds are starting to kick in, i can attempt to walk a couple miles on my TM tomorrow..

Hi there! I'm just stopping by to introduce myself. I decided to sign up for the princess half because I got a great pin code that makes the room reservation slightly less painful. I'm going to be traveling solo this time and I'm really looking forward to the time by myself. I took a solo trip several years ago and it was a blast!

Anyway, I have done the Jan half before and I am doing it again this year with my mom. My mom usually does these races with me and she walks the entire thing. I noticed some debate about finishing in time without any running. I wanted to mention that my 57 year old mom has walked 6 half marathons now and her worst time was 3:28. Her PR is 3:17. It can be done if you train for it.

Now that I signed up for the princess race, I am going to be doing 5 half marathons in the next 7 months (Nov, Jan, March, and 2 in May). I'm pretty excited for the challenge. If I can finish in less than 2:30, I'm going to sign up for a full. Right now my PR is 2:58, but I am on pace to finish my Nov race in 2:45.

I'm glad I found this thread and I'm looking forward to checking in from time to time!

Welcome dislvr74!!! Wow, that is simply amazing.. i don't know if i could do that many races so close to each other -- you go girl!!!!

Just as a note -- wanted to share my excitement -- i weighed in at WW yesterday -- met my next goal - lost 27lbs so far!!!! ( i was trying to get to 25, and passed it!!) I am shooting to hit 30lbs by the time i go next month to WDW for TGiving. Then, my ultimate goal is to do another 10lbs by the race!
I feel great -- just went to walmart, and bought myself a pair of SIZE 10 jeans!!!! ( I was previously a 14!) I am so thrilled!

Hello Fellow Princesses!

I have been MIA for quite a few weeks, and I thought it was finally time I hop on here for an update!

DH and I did the Everest Challenge together at Animal Kingdom on Sept 26, and we had a blast! It's a 5K, obstacle course, and scavenger hunt. I ran nearly the entire 5K with only 2 30 second walking bouts. I was so proud of myself! :cool1: Then we got to the obstacle course which was a challenge but fun, and it started to rain. By the time we got to the scavenger hunt, it was a torrential downpour, no joke! The puddles in the park were literally up to my ankles, and sadly, they had to shut down the booth where you checked your answers for your official finish. This was a bummer as we did really well on the answers, and it would have boosted our time. Needless to say, we finished and got some 'baller' medals! :) We didn't stick around much afterwards for the party since it was still raining, most of open rides were closed due to the rain, and there were only two restaurants open. All in all, it was a great experience and DH and I had so much fun racing together!

After the race, I was up to 27 full minutes of running, and I was stoked! I was so proud of myself, and I was feeling awesome!

Then, on a crummy note, I started having some stomach issues in conjunction with my running so I took about 10 days off to let my body get back to normal. Getting back on the horse has been rough for me, but last week Thursday I finally went to the gym and ran on the treadmill. Today I ran outside, and it went alright. Running in the cold is a totally different thing than running in shorts and a tank! Now I just need to keep building up my time and distance and get over my fear of my stomach acting up mid run...

I saw that the 7 for 4 deal came out for the time frame we will be there in March, but for us to get the 'discount' it was over $1000 more. EEK! Even though it included the dining plan, I still couldn't justify it...I just wish we could add the DDP to our race reservations! (Yes, I am still hung up on that! :headache:)

Caitsmama, GREAT news about you WW weigh in!! That has to be such a great feeling! :goodvibes

Welcome to all the new ladies!

Now a few quick questions:
Has anyone seen anything about the race route??? I am dying to know where we'll be running!

For those of you who ran last year, I was hoping to make an ADR for lunch after the race. Would noon give us enough time to get off the course and to the restaurant? We don't plan to change but just head over to the Poly to eat at Kona.

I think I've rambled on long enough, but I wanted to pop in and see everyone's progress! Sounds like everyone is doing great! Can't wait to meet many on you soon!

Meghan

Meghan.. hmm.. last year, i just hobbled over to the Poly to a hammock with my name on it and frozen drink.. LOL ;)

I would say that if you did an ADR for noon, you will be fine! Now i am thinking of where i am gonna eat after!! :) However, i WILL be showering/changing!!! LOL

where can I find a pin code?? I'm seriously thinking on running for the half- I would love to run it actually. I need to find a way to justify the cost to dh, so getting a discount would be even greater!
Thanks

If you are registered with disney.com there is a god chance you have one. I did not get an e-mail bout mine, but I called just to see to price out the pin v/s the buy 4 deal.

I knew I had a pin for Jan and Feb as well as one for May and June, so I figured I would call and ask. I did 40% of mod and deluxe, 30% off value. The buy 4 deal was still the better one for us, but not by much.

I would just call the main Disney line and ask. Good luck! princess:

They just posted the date for the next endurance chat - I believe it is on October 29th at 1:00 p.m. EDT and will be an hour long. You can submit your questions now and read the transcript later. I don't know how many of us can attend the chat at that time so maybe they will answer the question about the route. :)
