Official So You Think You Can Dance Season 7 Thread

I do think Billy does need an intervention where someone comes in, gives his hair a better cut, takes away those horrid red skinny jeans (they are just as awful in person). I was happy he wasn't going to wear those for his solo this week -- until I saw the horrendous shorts!

Please, someone w/ some talent in the style dept. give the kid a makeover stat!

I have a problem when they throw in B-Boy or hip hop into routines to help cover a dancer's weaknesses and they get lavished w/ praise. Then they turn around and tell someone like Jakob last season -- we know you can jete amazingly, but be careful of having it in every routine. Not only is the dancer not the choreographer, but that's just not a level playing field.

Heck, they even threw a table into Jose's routine to help hide his lack of technique this week -- then specifically said they didn't want to talk technique, just performance??? I think if they showcase all of the dancers equally the show will only get better.
I agree with all of this. The dancers can only do what the choreographers tell them to do, so if the judges don't like the routine, let the ones responsible know about it! I was really happy when they gave Travis a hard time about his "jazz" routine being too contemporary. Then of course, Travis gave them the fish eye the rest of the night! :lmao: It also bugs me when they give them comments about not liking the costumes. It seems to me like they wouldn't have a choice in that matter either. Does anyone know differently?

I wondered about the costumes myself, do the choreographers have a say in them? Or is it just a seperate costuming department altogether?

Do you mean Alex?? He is injured! It happened while he was rehearsing for his Bollywood routine. They have done an MRI and think it might be an achilles tendon injury. If that is what it is, he will be out of the competition! :sad1:

I'm absolutely heartsick about Alex. I'm fairly certain he's out of the competition & they'll wait until the end tomorrow to announce.

I'm actually more worried about what this means to his future career, as far as his recovery, not the fact that he likely can't continue on the show. He's proven he can dance & he can win.

I can't believe that Alex has such a severe injury. I'm so disappointed. One of the reasons I looked forward to watching the show every week is because of Alex. :sad2:

I didn't watch last night as was going to watch after work - but I am heartsick about Alex. He really was the star this season and it won't be the same without him!

Completely agree.

For those that did watch the show, what did you think of the way that Cat stood up to the judges when they started attacking Adechike for putting his own "spin" on his Bollywood routine?

She said she was not trying to play devil's advocate, but the previous week they praised Jose for "making it his own" & this week they were telling Adechike that he was wrong for doing the same thing. :confused3

You can see that for some reason Mia does not like Adechike. They love Jose & I just don't see it. He may be a great guy, but he is not a great dancer.

You must have seen this before w/ all of your years in the dance world, if the achilles is blown, is it likely he'll dance as well after recovery?

I just hope he has good treatment & follows his instructions to the letter.

After some of the discussions on here I went on the Fox discussion & read what people were saying there. You could tell the judges were reacting a bit to some of the same things we've hashed here. I think that's where Cat's comment came from.

I know when she said it all you could hear in our living room was a resounding Yes! Every single one of these dancers are talented. They put them on the show -- are counting on them to keep the show making money. Treat them all respectfully & fairly. Constructively critique them.

I was happy when I realized the entire cast would likely tour if they return to doing that this season. Now I've realized someone will have to fill in for Alex in the hip hop -- and Hallelujah. I know both of those were intended to be marque tour pieces. Can't wait to see the dolls piece from last night.

I don't understand why Mia is so mean to Adechike. To me it seems she is trying to do all she can to get him off the show. My DD and I were so mad at Mia last night for the way she was attacking him.

I was happy that she spoke up! I was happy the choreographer stood up and clapped for her comment. I think you are right--for some reason Mia doesn't like him. He's not my favorite (I think my fav is out--Alex) but I think the judges on these shows show favoritism and I hate that.

They are always contradicting themselves esp. when it comes to "make it your own" comments--AI is the same way. It confuses me too.

I've never witnessed or known anyone that has blown their achilles before (luckily) in the dance world (actually, I should say in MY dance world) I've seen kids with sports injuries do it & while they return after a while, the injury seems to compromise their ability.

I hope Alex gets the best medical care available & he can dance again soon. He is much too talented to not be able to dance. I honestly think he is the best I've ever seen on the show. He's just got all...........talent, charisma, he's fun & he's very likable.

...that drives me crazy too...
Same here. Be consistent & stop playing favorites. I know the judges see a lot more of the personality of the contestants, but I don't think they are always fair when they critique.

Three Emmy nods for SYTYCD, Mia Michels for Gravity addiction dance and the butt dance and Stacy Tookey for the fear dance.

And one SYTYCD alum - Chelsea Hightower on Dancing with the Stars.

And Adam Shankman for the Academy Awards.
