Official So You Think You Can Dance Season 7 Thread

I hope that is not his injury. But evidently--it can just happen though it is rare.

My chiropractor tore hers last fall. She had decided to get back into shape and was maybe a week or two into her workouts. Nothing real strenuous that should have caused the injury. She was doing a lunge and that is how it was injured. The doc said, of course that was unusual. I think that it was mentioned that some folks may be predisposed to
that injury based on their anatomy (short tendon, maybe?).

Her recovery required surgical repair.

If that is Alex's injury--and I hope it isn't, then this will
be the end it the season for him. For his sake and my dancing enjoyment, I hope they are embellishing the severity of things to create drama.

But has anyone noticed the increase of injuries over the past couple of seasons for the live competitions?

I've never witnessed or known anyone that has blown their achilles before (luckily) in the dance world (actually, I should say in MY dance world) I've seen kids with sports injuries do it & while they return after a while, the injury seems to compromise their ability.

I hope Alex gets the best medical care available & he can dance again soon. He is much too talented to not be able to dance. I honestly think he is the best I've ever seen on the show. He's just got all...........talent, charisma, he's fun & he's very likable.

Same here. Be consistent & stop playing favorites. I know the judges see a lot more of the personality of the contestants, but I don't think they are always fair when they critique.

Completely agree.

For those that did watch the show, what did you think of the way that Cat stood up to the judges when they started attacking Adechike for putting his own "spin" on his Bollywood routine?

She said she was not trying to play devil's advocate, but the previous week they praised Jose for "making it his own" & this week they were telling Adechike that he was wrong for doing the same thing. :confused3

You can see that for some reason Mia does not like Adechike. They love Jose & I just don't see it. He may be a great guy, but he is not a great dancer.

Lemme just say that as a rule Cat bothers the crap out of me. I mean fingernails on a blackboard. BUT she was so right in this case. IMHO, Mia is mean and angry. And not in the Simon Cowell "it's just business" kind of way. With her it's personal, and it's obvious. I really really hope Adecheke is not in the bottom 3. It doesn't even matter whether I like him or not (I do, but not my fave), at this point I just DON'T like her.

On another note did anyone notice ' something' about Lauren and Kent when they danced? A budding romance or sudden awareness to each other in that dance?

Or heck maybe they were just caught up in the moment and its nothing?!

I haven't watched the show yet, but as far as Mia and her...attitude (for lack of a better word)...she certainly has her opinions.
Didn't she hate Brandon (Brendan?) all of his season. Each time it was her turn for commentary..."I don't get why everyone is crazy about you. I just don't see it." Or something like that. Then one day---she got it. I don't know of be got better and was good enough for her..or if the lightbulb finally turned on. She strikes me as one of those who won't like you unless you are throwing every ounce of your best at her. I get that attitude a lot especially when she choregraped contemporary during Vegas week in seasons past.

I think she is brilliant with her work even when I don't get it...but I still haven't figured out what she expects from her dancers. She raves about Travis now, but I would love to hop into my Time Machine back to season two to relisten to her critiques of him to see if she came across the same way.

Not a Mia fan. She either likes you or hates yu (like brandon last season). When she could no longer deny hius talent, then she said nicer things about him

Some of her comments, she just keeps talking and getting nastier. Thank goodness for DVR and I can fastforward right over her :thumbsup2

On the Mia topic...........one of my instructors has taken many classes from her. She said if she likes you she's sweet as pie, if not, don't cross her.

She tells it like it is - or as she sees it. Doesn't matter how old or talented the student may be (or at least that's what my instructor told us about the classes she took from her). My instructor has had a few good stories that shocked me.

She is definitely a talented choreographer, but I think there is a better way to give criticism than they way she does at times.

I was glad to see that she recognized her harshness and said sorry in her own way...I felt like it wasn't the best/most sencere apology in the world but nice, for Mia amyway.

I actually like a lot about Mia. She drove me nuts with Brandon last year and Adecheke this season. I hated her dance tonight with the angels. Ick...I didn't enjoy watching it one single bit.

So where's Mary this season? I know everyone is missing her screams! ;)

My daughter took a class from her and said the same thing. As you said, there is a way to give criticism without being mean, and she's just mean.

I am just so sad about Alex. He was by far my fav this season and I am having trouble falling in love with any one else. What a lose for the show and the season. I do hope he comes back next seson. I have a friend that had that injury playing soccer and it is a tough one to recover from.

So who do I root for now? I kind of like Billy, Lauren, maybe Kent?

Seemed like at the end Kent and Alex "friggin" Wong had develop a really close friendship.

I was happy to see the Mia apology but it did feel rather insincere. But it was still good to see.

It's so funny that so many, including Mean Mama Mia herself find her criticisms so harsh. Many instructors at the dance studio my DD's dance at have that technique. OMG, I must be getting sucked in & immune to it.

What I heard about Mia/Brandon was that he came out of her daddy's studio, so she had seen him for a very long time. I think she may have been attempting to light a fire under his butt and w/o the background the audience saw it as uncalled for.

I was a little surprised at Nigel's cavalier attitude about the surgery Alex needs. It may not be dramatic as a procedure(I have no clue), but the results & recovery aren't a gimme. I send only the best to Alex, as a person and a dancer -- I'm sure for him it's impossible to separate the two. Prayers to him and his docs.

The problem I have with Mia's critisms is they are, at times, personal and have nothing to do with dance ability.

I was also surprised with Nigel's attitude. I hope it is just a three month rest period and hopefully Alex will be back next year.

Forgot to mention our biggest excitement about last night's show -- oldest DD's BFF & several girls from our studio were in the audience & we saw them a few times on camera. DD was so jealous of their opportunity to see SYTYCD, which came about last minute. (Thank goodness says my wallet, because it might have made her interested in doing the trip with them just for that.)

How exciting! It must be amazing to see live. I was fast forwarding through parts - did they ever say if Allison was okay?

I also forgot to mention how much I LOVED seeing Katee. She just lights up the stage.

She was 100% right for doing that and it was about time someone showed them up for the hypocrites they are. My goodness, all three judges could not agree on his routine. One criticized him for form and praised his character, the other criticized his character and praised his form. Were they all watching the same routine.

I don't mind Mia being critical. I just hate how she is so personal with it. Talking about "missing Alex" and how Alex would have danced it so much better was just mean. I liked Alex, he was my favorite, but Alex didn't dance, Adecheke did. Constructively criticize his dancing--help him be better, don't be all dramatic shouting for Alexand how you wished you could have seen him dance it!

....yes, yes, YES, definitely! I thought it was just me that noticed that too...

But if her criticisms had anything to do with dance I would agree with you. I'm a big fan of honesty and constructive criticism. My DH is a musician and EXTREMELY blessed with talent. I know that no matter how much I practice I will never have the ability he has. I get that. But her "observations" are personal, hateful, and have no benefit to the person she is giving them to. How does Adecheke fix that Alex didn't dance? So why mention it? Why be so mean? She seems to be an angry person and I don't really care how "acclaimed" she is. She's rude.

I am normally not so opposed to mean people, after all, I can be one a lot of times. But my anger is usually directed at someone who (I think at least) deserves it. Maybe Adecheke ran over her cat on the way to the venue.

Joining in a little late...

I am glad Cat said something! The judges really seem to be gunning for him, and Mia's comments were completely out of line. I don't see how " really missing Alex right now" can be construed as constructive criticism. I thought her apology was pretty weak too. This was the first time I ever voted, but I voted about 10 times for the poor guy!
