Only the old section has the partial room dividers. On one side are the beds, dressers, tv and on the other is a small loveseat/bed and a table with 4 chairs near the patio window. Pictures of the rooms are on the SoG site.

Here's a link to the photos on the official website (the first three show a room in the new section; the other ones show a room in the old section with the partial walls separating the sitting area):

I can't identify the bathroom shots as new section or old section - maybe someone else can.

can anyone tell me more about the golf mobile to take you to the end of the road?? Do you request it at the front desk ? how many people can fit?

Ask at the Bell Station just outside the lobby doors. 4-6 could ride, depending upon the size of the people. My family of 5 fit fine with DH riding up front next to the driver, DD9, DS5 and me in the 2nd row, and DS13 was in the rear-facing backseat.

Hello All,
We will be going to SOG at the end of the week. I have noticed in other postings that they do sell beer in the store, how about wine etc? Thanks,
KT:disrocks:

That is good to know that you have to "request" the Shady Shuttle to use it.

Hi .. ok right now I have 2 rooms booked for SOG in may .. when I look on the availability calender and try to make a reservation the nights we are there it offers a suite for those night .I would much rather the suite than two rooms so I called and the woman said that they only have the suite available for one of those nights... What if I went ahead and booked it online.. will they allow it to go through or not?

Don't know, but I prefer two connecting rooms than the suite. Cheaper, more beds (pull out couches are not so comfortable), and better ventalation. The room with the King size bed has no windows. We either stifled or froze the rest of our party because of the airconditioner.

Yes, AAFES sells wine. It was all pretty pricey and limited selection when we were there. Mark-ups are to be expected, but some wines were double what we pay back home. The wine selection at Mangino's was very good and more reasonably priced. We even saw a bottle of Italian wine we had at dinner one night for sale at EPCOT for quite a bit more.

Thanks for the info- we are using *********** transportation that includes a 30 minute grocery stop- so I will add wine to my list to get at Publix.

Thanks for the input.. I think your post convinced me to keep the two , hopefully connecting, rooms.. I dont like the idea of paying more for pull out beds , only real plus of a suite is that we'd be in the same area

I can't identify the bathroom shots as new section or old section - maybe someone else can.

The bathroom shown is in the new section. It has the split bathroom with the toilet and tub in a separate room and the double sinks outside that. The old section has a room with tub and sink next to each other and the toilet behind a little partial wall, no door separating the components from each other.

I can stop in and make our room request in person!

On one recent visit I tried to make a reservation by "stopping by" and it was not permitted. I had to call on the phone from the room. I asked if she was actually located in the building I was standing in and she said yes but they don't let people come in to make reservations and such.

They are always so nice when I call in anyway, I don't worry about making a request by phone.

If the Shady Shuttle is not outside, you can have them call. But you do not actually have to request it to use it. We have been picked up many times when walking down to the Poly or on our way back up. He seems to "cruise" back and forth.

The old section has a room with tub and sink next to each other and the toilet behind a little partial wall, no door separating the components from each other.

The old section has 2 types of bathrooms. One is the handicapped room. It is one huge room with tub, single sink and toilet as you described. The other style is the non-handicapped room. This one has a very tight room with only a tub and toilet. No way for a wheelchair to get in there. Outside that room is a double sink.
I have stayed in several rooms in the old section. Have had both the handicapped and non-handicapped rooms.

Anyone here ever actually stayed in one of the suites?

The poster talking about 2 rms versus a suite got me wondering... for those that have done both, or at least stayed in SOG in both types of rooms, what would you recommend?

i love SOG! my dad is military/DoD, and we always stay there. it is especially great because i use a wheelchair and i can get the chair in there without a problem, which i cant always do when i am at even a deluxe resort! its wonderful!

I have stayed in both and I prefer two rooms to the suite for the reasons I posted earlier.

I appreciate the info!

Now that I'm thinking about it, we'll have to go to SOG in June anyway to buy our tickets. So we'll just plan on some extra time to walk around and get an idea of the layout. I can stop in and make our room request in person!

I don't know why I didn't think of that before! :confused3

Thanks!
Kristie :)

Just wondering how old your boys are? My twins are only 24 months, but will be almost three when we go this Christmas. When did you start bringing them to Disney and I assume it gets easier;) Our first trip with them was when they were 13 months, but it was alot better than we expected:goodvibes

Is it true the aafes store was expanded when they did the renovations??

Yes, the new store is basically in the same area in relation to the old hotel layout, but it is much bigger. They offer a better variety of everythng. I like the new setup. It feels more like a giftshop/store rather than walking into a large walk-in closet (if you can remember how cramped the clothing area was in the old AAFES).

The only trouble with two rooms is they cannot guarantee connected, and they may not be right next to each other. I have heard that happening with others. My DH snores so loudly, I may end up getting a suite next time since our MIL will be with us. She won't get any sleep otherwise!
When we checked in last time, the first room she showed us was nowhere near where I had requested. We asked for, and received several other choices, and chose the one we wanted. If you check in early and for some reason the rooms are too distant, you might be able to request two closer to each other. I am not sure how hard they actually try to fulfill requests - there were several vacant rooms in the area I had wanted, but they put us at the opposite end of the hotel originally.
