However, I prefer to be in a pool where people have common sense to go to the bathroom in a toilet and not pick zits while in the water. ;)[/QUOTE]

AMEN!!!!!!

I've read here about people not being able to get connecting rooms when they requested it. Are there just not that many to go around? Most hotels I've been in (in the US) seem to have them throughout the hotel - making it hard to find a room that doesn't have a connecting door. Have many people had this problem? If you had a problem, could it have been due to short notice - maybe your reservation wasn't made very far in advance?

I'm requesting connecting rooms on my reservation (made six months in advance), but making no other special request, hoping that this will increase the odds for us. Separate rooms would really stink.

I made my reservation 8 months in advance and also requested connecting rooms, and they were very clear that they could not guarantee it. They did, however, assure me that in all likelihood they would fulfill my request of the rooms being in the same section and on the same floor.

We'll be staying at SOG for the first time Thanksgiving week. I know that SOG shares some of the benefits of staying in a Disney resort, but not others. When making dining ADRs for Disney restaurants, can you make them 180 + 10 days? I'm just wondering if I can make all of my ADRs 180 days from my arrival or if I will have to call each day.

Sorry if this is a silly question, but I am VERY confused -- I thought that ADR's could be made 180 days in advance. Does it actually matter where you're staying? And what does the "+10" mean?

I was under the impression that you counted back 180 days (or use the online calculator) from the day that you actually want your ADR for, regardless of when your trip begins.

Here is what I found on Mousesaves... it explains it pretty well

If you will be staying at a Disney owned-and-operated resort ONLY (includes DVC stays; does NOT include Swan/Dolphin, Shades of Green, Downtown Disney or offsite hotels), you have extra privileges when booking Advance Reservations for dining.

Disney resort guests can call 180 days in advance of their day of arrival and make up to 10 days of Advance Dining Reservations at (407) WDW-DINE (939-3463). (Cinderella's Royal Table is excluded from this policy and may only be booked exactly 180 days in advance.)

You will be asked for your phone number or reservation number. The agent will verify in the system that you have a reservation at a Disney resort. Once that is established, you can make all your Advance Dining Reservations at once, for up to ten days of vacation!

Swan/Dolphin, Shades of Green, Downtown Disney and offsite hotel guests who want to make Advance Dining Reservations as early as possible will have to call back each day at the 180-day mark.

Here is the response I received from SOG regarding pool hopping at Disney resorts:

Dear Ms. xxxxx,

Unfortunately, you can not use the pools at the other resorts. If I can assist you further, please feel free to contact me.

Thanks for the info. That is what I thought.

After alot of research and consideration I believe I will be booking my trip for SOG in Sept! I've looked at all the moderate disney resorts and in comparison, I just can't beat the price. My hubby is coming home in Sept from Iraq for R&R and I know he'll want to be in a hotel where he can rest and relax at the end of the day. The discount they are giving deployed soldiers is awesome! For 7 days/6nights with the discount it will only be $555!! It's just too good to pass up. Our daughter will be 2 so staying at a themed hotel won't really matter to her. For this price with the location it is in, it's just too good to pass up! I can't wait to book our trip! The only problem I have with booking is I don't know exactly when in Sept he will be home.

Thanks for the clarification. I would have been shocked had the answer been anything else. I love a clean and concise response. Thanks again..

Apologies if I put my foot in my mouth about using other resort pools. I think it is just a leftover "unofficial" perk from when the resorts were not as busy as they are now. My Dad used to stay at Port Orleans and just resort hop his whole trip (he lived in FL). He was told it was no big deal but that was a few years ago. Still I would go over to the Poly beach area to see the fireworks if you get time. Its a wonderful way to unwind the kids before bed!

We were in your exact position two years ago (Sept/Oct 2006). Our SoG/WDW trip was a great way to reconnect as a family after Dh's deployment! :thumbsup2 I think you'll all enjoy SoG very much.

I'm not sure what to tell you about the lack of firm dates. We ended up having our whole trip planned (including multiple dining reservations) and then having to push it back a week because DH's return was delayed. So I guess the only advice I have would be to play your trip on the later end of things, to avoid that exact circumstance.

Have fun!

anyone have any advice on tipping the housekeeping at shades?? I saw the other thread about not accepting tips but I wouldnt feel right about not tipping them. Do you tip at the end or everyday and how much?

Just back from SoG and I tipped $3 to $5 a day. Cheaper than a tip for a restaurant for more personal service. I left it on the sink and it was gone each day.

We made our reservations about a month ago... I don't remember seeing any place on the reservation page where you could insert room requests. Did I miss it, or do I need to send an email? Any help would be appreciated.

I personally call them and they make a note on the reservation. I also call again about a week before we arrive to confirm everything including our room request:thumbsup2

Hi!
We've stayed on property at ASMovies, BC, AKL, CR, and POP. We're headed back to POP this June, but we are planning a surprise trip for the boys this Christmas and will be staying at SOG. I'd love some suggestions on room requests - I feel a little lost. I've been in SOG through the lobby to buy our tickets each trip, but that's all I'm familiar with!

We'll be doing a lot of walking over to the Poly, so what would be best for us to be nearest the path? Also, we'll have 2 cars with us. (My parents will be joining us.) Did I see something somewhere about rooms with a half wall dividing the bed area from the couch/t.v. area? That might be good for us with the boys . . . I'm so confused!

We are really excited about our very first Christmas in Disney!

Any suggestions about room requests would be greatly appreciated!

Kristie :)

The half walls are in the old section, but it divides the sleeping area( which is where the TV is located) from the small round table/chairs and couch.

all the rooms are a ways away from the Poly path, they are located in the rear of the resort so no matter what you will be walking.

The old section is closer to the Poly, however you have to go through the lobby from either section to get to the walkway to the Poly, so I don't think it makes a difference. At 8:30 am the Shady Shuttle starts to run and you can request a ride in the golf mobile to the end of the road across from the Poly.

Only the old section has the partial room dividers. On one side are the beds, dressers, tv and on the other is a small loveseat/bed and a table with 4 chairs near the patio window. Pictures of the rooms are on the SoG site.

I appreciate the info!

Now that I'm thinking about it, we'll have to go to SOG in June anyway to buy our tickets. So we'll just plan on some extra time to walk around and get an idea of the layout. I can stop in and make our room request in person!

I don't know why I didn't think of that before! :confused3

Thanks!
Kristie :)
