Official Poly construction update thread **updated video page 103(2/17/15)**

Has anyone been recently in Hawaii that can report on the noise with the sliding door closed? I'm thinking it won't be that bad, but would love to know first-hand. A video would be even more awesome! Jeff's video unfortunately has the music instead of real noise.

We were there the 12-20th, and didn't notice any noise with the doors shut. To be fair, though, at that point there wasn't much going on involving heavy equipment. We only heard the backup beeping one afternoon, but with the door shut I didn't notice it. We were magic kingdom view 3rd floor toward sunset point end (3514).

We just got home last night from our trip. We were in Samoa 3608 and the view was wonderful. It did get loud during the day with noise from people in the pool and the poolside party music and MC talking on the microphone. And at ~7:30am every morning the CMs would be running the leaf blowers to clear leaves and sand.

Speaking of noise.....

The Sunset Point video --- the music was too dramatic. It is sad to see Sunset Point being torn apart but I am excited to see the changes that are coming. I took some video and pictures too. While we didn't stay in Hawaii I did stand on the staircase at the very end of the building near Tahiti and the heavy machinery wasn't super loud; I would think with the patio doors closed it wouldn't be very loud at all. There was alot of beeping from the machinery backing up.

Since we all know the GCH is changing I wanted to get some family pictures in front of the water feature. A CM offered to take the pictures and when I said to him "I want to get pictures of this before y'all go and change it" he smiled and said "I don't know what you are talking about". ;)

Oh and someone asked if there were people still staying in Tahiti --- we did see lights & TVs on and people in rooms in the garden side.

I'll post some pictures once I get them uploaded.

There goes our wedding spot.:furious:

On the bright side, all the changes Disney has made as of late, they're making it REALLY easy to make vacation plans elsewhere.

Thanks for the great update. The noise reports are so valuable.

We just got back from Poly and stayed 3rd floor Tokelua (not sure of the number - it was the end closest to MK/beach). The noise was an issue on Friday as we kept hearing the beep-beep of machinery (backing up I guess), but we hadn't really noticed anything prior to that date and we were there for over a week.

Just got back from Poly, stayed 10/20-23. Had a great time! I was in Samoa and could only tell the construction was going on when walking to the TTC. Unless you are in Tahiti, I think everyone should not be too worried.

Not construction pictures but here is the view from Samoa 3608.

Those are amazing pictures!!! Thanks for posting those!! Now I know what room to request next time I am there. I LOVE Samoa, and I have always wanted a view of the volcano pool. I have not gotten that view yet, but yours is spectacular!! Thanks!

We returned from the Poly on the 18th and we did see the yellow barrier going in the lagoon and hear and see the start of the construction near Tahiti/TTC but it did not impact us at all in Tokelau. But I did want to mention the volleyball court. I was going to play but we noticed the net is just a few feet from the green construction fence. Even if we were to play (and I don't think they would even let us but we didn't ask), there would be little room to move on that side and most likely the ball would go over the construction fence! Not a huge deal not to play and not many people actually play volleyball but just wanted to let you know about it!

How was the view, did the fencing obscure anything? We requested Tokelua, end room on the third floor (3914), GF side. We will be there from Nov 10-15. Just curious about the view. Thanks.

Thanks for all the updates everyone!! I think that the " noise" reports are going to become so valuable in the coming months.

Took those today.

Hey all, just spoke to a friend who was told the Poly volcano pool will be closed more than likely till at least the end of May 2014! They currently have a reservation already booked and was told they are not offering any discounts at this time.... I would hope they would offer something for those that will be there during this construction. What do you think?:confused3

As far as we have been told the pool will go down in March of 2014 and will probably be down for 9 months possibly more. I also don't think they will be offering any more discounts than the rest of the resorts since they have made contingency plans for when the pool is down (launch to the GF), the construction does not effect the entire resort, and the GCH will be done in sections so it will not totally close either. I know from experience with other resorts, non-Disney, that you will pay regular prices, or regular discounted prices even if they are going through construction. We did at Portofino Bay this summer in fact. We stayed Club Level and the construction actually took out the lounge so it had to be relocated and yet we paid normal discounted rates. There were no special discounts due to construction. What is also different than Disney is we never even knew there was construction until we got to the resort. There was no advance notice at all.

We were across the hall from that room. I don't think you'll have any real view issues on that side of the building - you can see some fencing, but its definitely better than what our side had (construction). I have pics from the end balcony - I'll try to upload later. :)
