Official Poly construction update thread **updated video page 103(2/17/15)**

We are planning our kids first trip to Disney May 5 - May 12 and celebrating our 10th wedding anniversary. We were going to splurge on the Poly.

What impact with the construction have on our stay?

Thanks!

The way I see it is there are 4 potential effects:

(1) Noise during the daytime may effect naps/relaxation at the resort.

(2) Themed pool will likely be closed.

(3) View/atmosphere may not be as magical.

(4) Risk of monorail reduced hours of operation or even closures.

I'm not sure if anyone can predict for sure how much of any of these will be in effect during any particular time period over the next year or so, but it seems to me that any or all of these could be in place.

Some people are more troubled by these issues than others. Also, I believe that sometimes the disruption will be less than other times. The problem with deciding what to do about staying at the POLY is the uncertainty as to the degree to which it will be an inconvenience during YOUR STAY.

Disney will try to minimize the negative impact and will set in place ways for guests to continue to have the best experience possible. Unfortunately, there is no way to get around the fact that work is being done that necessitates some closures, noise and reduced atmosphere.

We are booked at poly 12/10-15 in club level. Wondering if I should just switch to a standard room to be further away from construction? Any thoughts?

Why would the monorail be closed other than work on the GCH which as of yet they haven't even come out with a date? I also can't see them closing it down for any length of time as that is a major draw to the resort.

They have had it closed down from 11:00 - 6:00 for a couple of weeks this Oct. Apparently it had something to do with finishing off VGF.

I don't know why, but obviously sometimes it happens. With construction going on, it is a risk, IMO.

I was just going to bring up that same point.

Anyone know if Tahiti is still open? Will be there the first week of December and have a Themepark view - requested either Tahiti or Tulavu - just want an unobstructed view of the castle.

Other than work on the GCH the construction at the Poly should not effect the monorail at all. Even with the work on the GCH I cannot see them closing it for any length of time as it is a major major draw to that resort. I know they did close it down a few weeks ago but it was only for a few days and only a certain time frame.

I guess the right response would be no one knows for sure what could be happening at any future date.

The one posted here page 65..the Jeff Lange one

It is a great video to show what is going on at present. The background music is a bit dramatic, perhaps.

Thank you for sharing it!! It may be difficult to watch, but it helps people trying to decide on where to stay to identify what they can expect now at the Poly.

Love the site Tikiman! :cool1: Thank you thank you THANK YOU!!!

Friends of ours are doing the extended family vacation to WDW in April 2014 and they came to me to help plan. We met for two hours last night about the Polynesian. Even with the 'not-sure-what-construction-will-really-be-going-on' while they are there (um, like Nanea pool closure), they still want to book it. I told them if I were in there shoes, I would probably do the same. And I might perhaps go with them :rotfl: Yup, that's a serious consideration!!! So for all of you concerned about construction - you have every right to be! But know from this Poly peep, I would still consider the resort. I did tell them as they approached their vacation dates, they (well I :rotfl2:) should keep an eye on the construction status. Disney wants to make them happy so if they book and do not get an indication that some of the features will be closed, I told them to call and switch resorts. But that yes, I would book Poly and wait and see. Crazy, I know ;)

Not crazy at all. I completely agree and plan to stay at Poly in August 2014. From the video you can see the construction is quite isolated and unobtrusive. If you are anywhere west of Sunset Pointe (as most of the resort is), you probably won't even see it. As for renovation in GCH, I still don't really care. We stayed at GF in May 2012 at the height of VGF construction when they did work on the beach pool and had friends who stayed there when they re-did the courtyard pool, gasparilla's, etc.. We heard no noise from the construction. GF made accommodations for guests as I'm sure Poly will.
