***Official November 2016 Thread***

Being from the UK I had a query (as I'm not sure if the park crowd calendar reflect this date correctly) as I'm going to be in Disney on the 8th Nov and I know there is something big going on that day (Not mentioning it as it is none of my business and we have our own stuff going on over here thank you very much lol).

But I was wondered what the crowds will be like as in the UK we close some schools and other public spaces to accommodate this type of event. Is it the same over there? will it be busy with residents who might not be doing their normal Tuesday schedule or is it very quiet as everyone will be occupied with other Civic things.

I'm just trying to plan my parks/pool and shopping days whilst totally minding my own business

I've never heard of schools or businesses closing for Election Day, oddly enough.

Our school in NW OH has off for election day and the elementary level has off the following day for conferences. My DH works for a large automotive manufacturer and they have election day and Veteran's Day off. I don't get either even though I work for a large corporate company :(

Interesting! Where do you live?

Our schools and all the schools around us are closed for election day as are county and state offices and some banks. Same for Veterans Day.
Friends/family in a few other states have election day off also and I just assumed everyone everywhere did. But we all know what happens when we assume lol.........

I've lived in a few different states: Illinois, Colorado, and now Iowa. I've never heard of schools or businesses closing for Election Day! I've voted at an elementary school and a high school, but both were still in session. The kids just didn't use that part of the building for the day.

I live in Mass. and our schools in our town close. With the way the world is today they do not want strangers walking into our elementary schools so easily. Too many crazy people out there.

It'd be nice if they closed, but with all the mandated number of hours and days that schools must be in session, that would mean kids would probably need to stay in school for longer in June. As it is, the kids don't get enough days off here (in my opinion). They get Labor Day, 1 day off in Oct for conferences, 3 days for Thanksgiving, 1 week for Christmas/New Year's, 1 week for spring break, and then Memorial Day. No Veteran's Day, MLK Day, or President's Day. I kind of wish they'd abolish spring break and give the kids more day off during the school year to help break it up a bit.

Wow, they really don't have many days off! My kids start school after Labor Day and normally don't have a full week of school until the last week in Oct., and then not another full week until the first week in Dec. :sad2: They have EVERY holiday off and often the day before, plus a day off or at least a half day for Superintendant's Conferences at least once a month it seems lol.

I will say I'm very surprised you don't have MLK day off. Another one I assume everyone did by now. But again, when I assume :rotfl2:I learn a lot on these boards!

Our kids go back before Labor Day and then till the middle of June. We always end up having snow days or rain days that push us into the June 20th week. It's crazy

Our schools stay open for primary elections, but close for presidential elections. I'm in NC.

Our schools (in Nevada) are also closed for election day as many are used for polling locations. With Veteran's day, it means the kids go three days that week and sporadic days at that, lol.

We aren't off for election day, but we have enough government buildings scattered throughout the county (libraries, parks, etc) that they don't need the schools.

I'm surprised at how few days off others get; we get a LOT. But, we start early August and go until Memorial Day, so we only get 2 months for summer.

I can't remember if I posted here before, but we will be there during Thanksgiving week, from 11/21 to 11/25 and we're staying at AKL with rented DVC points. We spent Thanksgiving there 2 years ago, it was our first trip and we loved it. Yes, it was busy, but maybe we had really low expectations, so we did not mind it at all. Plus the lines at Disney always seem to move really fast! I'm hoping to get ADR at Boma for Thanksgiving dinner, the rest of our ADR's are stil up in the air. Do I have to link tickets before I can reserve Fast Pass or is my hotel reservation enough?

Yeah, when I grew up in Illinois, we had almost every little holiday day off. In addition to President's Day, we got off for Washington's Birthday and Lincoln's Birthday. We also were off for MLK Day and Polaski Day, and even Columbus Day and Veteran's Day. Our Christmas break started much earlier and lasted 2 weeks. We still had school on Election Day, though! But everyone voted at the town hall.

I was so surprised to see my kid's school schedule when he started kindergarten this year in Iowa. They go for months at a time with no days off. That's why I don't mind pulling them out of school for Disney. They can use a break!

Thanks @Becky Mouse for the info have just go my tickets for the 15th - tempted to go twice but will need to wait till next weekend for payday before purchasing anymore. party:

The discussion about how many days kids are off of school made me wonder how many days (if any) everyone takes their kids out of school to go to Disney?

My kids are in 6th, 2nd, and Kindergarten and this year they missed 3 days in late September. Next year (7th, 3rd, and 1st), they'll also miss three days in November to go to Disney.

(We also took them out for 3 days to visit Washington DC.)

We drive from Canada so our kids usually miss 8 days of school. They are in 3rd grade, Kindergarten and the little one is three so he is not in school yet. I have no problem taking them out of school as long as they are doing well and have no problems catching up when we get back. When they get older we may have to fly so they don't miss as much.:)

My kids are out of school that day because their school is a voting location, and that is why we have chosen that week to take them out of school and go to Disney.

This is the main reason why we are going this week also. We will just vote absentee ballot. We can stay 9 nights and the kids only miss 3 school days.

I am thinking a lot of other people around here (MA) have the same idea because the plane tickets I bought are 50% more expensive then when I bought them last month. It's insane. I am anticipating crowds being a bit worse than normal that week.

Officially six months until my trip! It is only four days until I make my ADRs and I am beginning to stress out as I normally do and make last minute changes. I have my master list ready to go prioritized in order of hardest to get to easiest to get with preferred times and secondary dates - yes I am a bit obsessive. I am staying at mostly OKW and I am still deciding what date night restaurant I want to book at Disney Springs.

I tried taking my kids on fall break last year to avoid taking them out of school since they were both in it this year (6th grade and Kindergarten.) Never again. It was way too crowded and my Autistic daughter was miserable. I will just keep taking them out of school for the off season as long as it's not impacting their studies. We're taking them out for 7 whole days this year and it will be more like 2 weeks that they will be out due to having Wed-Fri off for Thanksgiving. (They will miss the entire week before Thanksgiving and then two days the week of.)

I'm totally stalking each day ADR wise as it opens up (since I can't do mine for another 9 days) just to see what's available after the morning rush. I think I'm going crazy...
