This is a picture of us, in our "costumes", last year. (Yes, I made the shirts) They looked really great in TL when the blacklight lite up the glow-in-the-dark paint I used on the spider webbing effect.

Characters in costume, last year, at LTT:

DD & Goofy

DD and Chip

DD & Dale

DD & Minnie

This was my favorite photo op location-

This is my DD in front of photo op at the end of candy hand out located between LTT and HM

How were the crowds at the first party last year?

See, I didn't find it that crowded at all. The lines were a little longer than usual for rides, but really not bad. I think on our night because it rained it forced more people to congregate in covered areas rather than spreading out.

Mind you, before last year's trip the past two times I went in the middle of August.. now THAT'S crowded to me!

Like I said, it was our first MNSSHP, and I'm sure it gets really crowded, the closer to Halloween it gets. Just for us, it seemed crowded, especially the parade and fireworks. The ride lines were pretty small. Candy lines fluctuated. Also, we ARE SPOILED :goodvibes by the low crowds, when we go. We love September for that fact, and it's still hot enough to spend time at the water parks. We haven't ever done July or August, and probably won't-due to the high crowd levels and the fact that my DD is actually in school then-(LOVE YEAR ROUND SCHOOL!).

I imagine, that the first few nights of MNSSHP are the least crowded (it even may be that the 2nd one is a little less crowded than the 1st). I know that the later ones can be packed.

Thanks, beattyfamily and everyone else, for the tips.

We'll be going on Oct 16 (Tuesday). I've a few more specific questions for y'all:

  • Would you say that the ride lines are about the same as or longer/shorter than a regular day at the MK?
  • We will be in the park before the party starts, so would you suggest doing rides before the official start?
  • I am assuming that the official PhotoPass sites line up quickly, so should we try to do those first, then do the trick-or-treating?
  • Do you suggest getting a locker to stash the trick-or-treat loot? ;)
  • I've read that the 2nd parade is less crowded than the first. How long in advance should we start waiting?
  • Is there another link with a lot of this information that is out there somewhere so I won't be bugging everyone with these questions? :rotfl:

I know for certian that my kids will want to go rides, but I also want to make sure we experience those events special to MNSSHP. We're planning on being at the park until they kick us out! :woohoo:

Last year we staked out a spot in front of the castle and parked it. Why? At some point you can watch the show, parade and fireworks one right after the other. I happened to notice this on the schedule as we entered the park, I can't find it and don't remember the exact times, but they were like, show at 9 parade at 9:45 and fireworks at 10:30 or something like that. So after we got in our positions, I got hot dogs from Casey's and we all sat (which was nice) and stuffed our face. popcorn:: We took pics and goofed around between entertainment. After it was all over we hit Stitch's Dance Party, it was the highlight of our trip, my DH danced with Donald Duck, (his favorite), and the kids had a blast! :woohoo: We did rides and some candy when we first arrived. I wouldn't worry about candy, they have HUGE top-off stations as you exit, so you'll get PLENTY! This year we are going to skip the candy and see more characters! Anyway, this is what we did, hope it helps!:)

Ok, so in order of your asking

  • I found the lines to be about the same most of the night. When the party first started, most people actually flocked towards the candy lines. We were able to walk right on to Haunted Mansion after our dinner at LTT
  • Why not do some rides ahead of time? It may be a great way to get certain things out of the way if you want to go on a ride that's closed during the party. I would also suggest eating before the festivities start.
  • Certian photo pass spaces fill up. We didnt' have to wait for Haunted Mansion, front of the park or by the castle. There was a HUGE line up by Cinderella's carriage, we just skipped it. If the pictures are important, get them done. The only thing is, some of the pictures look nicer in the dark and it will still be light at 7pm.
  • We didn't bother with a locker. You're not getting a pillowcase full of candy or anything. Plus, if you leave the candy part until the end you can just take it with you on the way out :)
  • We got our spot for the second parade right after the fireworks ended (lots of people left so we found a spot we liked and stayed there!).
  • Dunno if there's another link. I guess it just all depends on your luck. Like I said, it rained last year on the first night. Had it not the rides probably wouldn't have been as busy as more peopel would have been wondering around outside instead of seeking shelter.

How were the crowds at the first party last year?

We went to the first party last year (and it was our first party we've ever gone to) and we didn't find it crowded at all. I've seen more crowds at evening EMH. Every ride we went into was a walk on. The longest "wait" we had was the trick or treat line from Toon Town to Tomorrowland...and even that went relatively quickly. We thought it was wonderful.

Part of this depends on where you're sitting...and which parade you went to. The first parade, from everything I've read here, is always more crowded. At the second parade that night, you could really find a seat anywhere. We watched the 2nd parade and while waiting for it, I ran to get our MNSSHP pin and only a couple of minutes before the parade began, Main Street hardly had anyone waiting for the parade to begin. Around the castle, though, it was busier. Hallowishes was busier right around the castle as well, but we found plenty of open spacee by Main Street. The only reason why we didn't sit there was because I wanted to get some nice pics of it.

This year will be our first time at MNSSHP, and we read this entire thread. There have been several posts that stated that they do not run out of candy during the night. I am so hoping that this is still true this year. :thumbsup2

Do they ever run out of candy by the end of the night?????:confused3

Nope! not even a chance. Especially not at the first party. THey have all the candy for all the parties stashed there, so they'd never run out. In fact, on the way out they practically dump candy into your bags.

Love the forum!!

We are going to our first party Oct 4th!
Haven't decided on our costumes, but love all the ideas the site has given me. :earsgirl:

Does the photo op with Cindy's carriage end before midnight? In other words, would it be better to wait out the crowds and the long line until say after the second parade or just before close to do this? Also, I read that they offer the photopass for 50% off at the party but that you do have to do this before a certain time? Does anyone know what time that is?

Thanks,
Mel

I believe the photo ops end right when the party ends. We passed by Cindy's carriage a few minutes after minute, and they were just finishing up closing the area off. We missed that photo op, so I couldn't tell you about when to line up.

As far as the 50% off thing, I'm looking at my card right now (yep, I kept it for memory's sake) and it says the offer expires 12/31/06...so take that to mean that it expires at the end of the calendar year. HOWEVER, when you receive your card, you need to get on the photopass website and enter in the card number within 30 days. Once you enter that number in, you then have 30 days from that point to order your pics. The offer is (or at least was) for the 5x7s...and the nice thing is that the promo code applied to ALL the pics, not just the MNSSHP ones. :)

Let me see if I've got this straight. You can't use your regular photopass card at the MNSSHP, but you can get a separate one for your party photos. But when you enter the card # on the web site, you can combine all the photos together and get 50% off any photos you order. Can you also order the photo cd with all your regular photopass photos and the party photos on it? TIA!

Dizneydaz--I SO want your t-shirts, or the artistic ability to do them myself. They really are amazing!

Erikaluvsdisney--we'll probably be there with you on the 4th! Sounds like most people on this thread who are there that week are going on the 5th, so we might have the place to ourselves!:rotfl2:

...

My understanding from earlier posts in this thread was that it was glitch in the system. I doubt that Disney will make the same mistake this year. Would be nice if it did happen again.

subscribing, can't wait for tickets to go on sale. looking to go to party on 4th

Lik e th pp said, I wouldn't b surprised if Disney fixes that glitch before next year so I wouldn't count on that.

Regarding the CD. Yes, you can combine both your regular Photopass and the MNSSHP Photopass cards to one CD but then you loose the MNSSHP discount.

Regarding the photopass, it was the same for MVMCP - I got 50% off photos ordered from the party as well as on my regular photopass pics. If it was an error my guess is it would have been corrected before MVMCP started - but who's to say they wont change it; I guess we will have to wait and see.

Never been to the MNSSHP---only MVMCP. This is our first time in the fall. We are excited about the party. I was reading all the posts and decided that the Friday, Sept 28th date was probably our only possibility since our vacation dates were 9/22 to 10/2. I was hoping for a party on 10/1, but I am kinda-sorta giving up on that. I was worried about crowds for 9/28 because it will be a Friday. So I added time to the vacation. We are now there from 9/22 to 10/5 so we can go to the 10/4 party. Will crowds be better for the Thursday 10/4 than the Friday 9/28? What IF Monday, 10/1 does happen? Where would it fall for crowds? Would a vet. please rank these dates for crowds. Thank you so much. Melissa :goodvibes
