OFFICIAL January 2012 5K, Half Marathon, Marathon, Goofy or Dopey Challenge Thread

Same here...should we be concerned?

I'm going to wait a week, and maybe call next weekend if it still isn't showing up. I have a confirmation email, and my card was charged, so I'm sure it's just a glitch they need to work out.

I wouldn't worry about it...
Mine doesn't show up, either, and I've already had to change my anticipated time and they were able to pull it right up.
You have your confirmation and receipt....not sure why you have to see it again? I register for about a dozen or so races a year with active.com and have not had any issues. They probably need to just get everyone loaded in the system.

It took a week to twelve days for it to show up that I registered for the DL half and the W&D half. Give it a little time. If it still doesn't show up by next month, maybe contact them.

I signed up late on the 14th. I rec'd a confirmation email. When I check for my registration on http://www.active.com/search_reg.cfm?EVENT_ID=1942156&CHECKSSO=0&SR_ID=35279 it doesn't show up. Someone else said that their name didn't show up but that was on the day they registered. I did a generic search for my state and names are showing up so it's not like no one is on the list yet. :confused3

I just checked mine, and I don't show up either. I tried to even have another confirmation email sent to me, and it's says there is no registration with my email address even though that's the email address I got the first confirmation at... I wonder if it has to do with registering through the visa offer. I registered on the 14th as well...

If you have an Active.com account your registration will show up on your account, or should. The race shows up on mine with a subtitle of Chase Card Special. I am thinking that runDisney will have to combine the two lists.

If you do not have an Active.com account, then you have your receipt. In the event the race you are in goes to 50% and you cannot pull up your registration, then that is when I would start to worry.

Oh, and as a matter of record, I am in the same boat.... Waiting for a couple weeks before panic sets in.

I was thinking the same thing about not worrying until the race was getting close to capacity. I have an email confirmation and my credit card was charged, so I'm running!

I've got an active.com account. My WDW Marathon reg shows up fine - but then I registered through them directly.

My DL Half reg still doesn't show up (I did it in person at the Marathon Weekend Expo), but I emailed them, and they were great about emailing the screen shot to me. :D

Can we still do roll call? I'll be there, my youngest DD and I will be doing the Marathon Relay! Excited, and a little apprehensive, never done more than a 5K before. DD has done the Princess twice, and the Wine and Dine Half. Wish us luck! Ill be the nervous one!

Just curious, does anyone know what is in (or at least what was in the 2011) goody bag?

Also, does running the marathon get me into a park later that day, or do i need to have a separate ticket for that?

also, can ppl share links of what there marathon schedule is/will be. I am week 2 in the galloway/disney beginners one. I know this will put me a few months ahead, but i need the conditioning. Is anyone doing more than 3 days a week? That is what is listed with that schedule

Long sleeved jersey, bib, 4 pins, small sample sized Cliff Bar - Chocolate Mint, Race Instructions, Chip instructions, 5 race brochures, a cheesy card for discounted free sunglasses - free but for the 25 shipping fee, stickers for your bag should you check your bag and a bunch of other junk. Oh, and a clear bag that is t be used as a gear check bag.

If I could post photos to this forum I would show.

Added....

Forgot the second part.

No, your race entry only allows you to run through the parks during the race. If you want to go to the parks on Sunday afternoon, then you are going to need a pass. In 2011 Disney threw in a Marathon Monday treat that gave marathon runners a free pass on Monday. Not sure if that will continue in 2012.

I use the Runnersworld SmartCoach program from their website to make my training schedules for the half-marathons I run so I'll probably just use that again. I'll probably start training this summer. I'll do three days a week for awhile. At the peak of training I'll add another day. But it'll be an easy run so I could substitute it for cycling if need be.

Is it totally crazy to run a marathon or two in training for Goofy? I posted something on facebook about how I was starting marathon training this week, and someone commented about how it's not healthy to run 3 marathons in such a short amount of time. I run my first at the end of August, the next at the end of October, then Goofy. Am I setting my self up for failure? I picked a longer marathon training plan, so I can ease into the longer distances more. I thought I had a pretty good plan going on to prepare for Goofy. I'm not racing the marathons to get an awesome time, I mainly want the miles in my legs. Both of the marathons have 1/2 options I could drop down to if I want at no charge, but I really think I can handle the full distance. I should also mention I'm going to try out the Galloway method when I start marathon training since I've been reading such good things about it. I do better with plans, and my current running plan is to keep running until I need to fuel, then keep running some more, etc. Will that help with reducing possible injury for running so many miles this fall?

Just FYI, I emailed runDisney about the registration issue. I registered through the Disney Rewards Visa link. They said
"When you registered online, you should have received an immediate confirmation and possibly an email confirmation. If so, you are all set. I do show you as registered for that event (see below). At present, the link on the website for the Goofy Challenge will only work for those who registered through the regular registration link for that event."

Then they included a screen shot of my registration information. Apparently they are just different databases right now, but all registrations are getting to Disney.

You can look up the registration from the bottom of the Disney Rewards registration page- I can't post the link because I am new :)

Good to know!

Another running/ training question... Anyone know about the benefits of taking glucosamine to prevent injury? A friend suggested that is helps especially with knee pain.

Have you run a marathon or two? Sounds kind of like you are running your first marathon as a part of Goofy. If that is the case I would urge some caution, also. You really do not know how your body is going to take the event. If you have a few under your belt then an August and October set of races is not all that bad. You may want to run the August event as a half and the Ocotber as a full if there is any question in your mind.

Not sure I follow the fuel question....

As far as glucosamine goes.... Maybe. I think the latest study I read was supporting a one out of every other person ratio of success. There are a lot of variables in the mix, most are the result of supplements not being a regulated industry. Potency and quality of glucosamine supplements has been questioned. That leads to a higher failure rate. Also, the effects take a mont or so to be seen. It is not a quick fix. I will say that I have been a successful user of the supplement.

I haven't run a full marathon yet, so the point of running a couple in the fall is to get a some runs that distance under my belt before Goofy. I personally don't want to run a full marathon for the first time as part of Goofy. I've read about people who have been able to finish without running one previously, but I'd rather know what it's like before I subject my body to the Goofiness of 39.3 miles in 2 days.

The Fuel question wasn't really about fueling. I'm planning to start doing a run/walk method again with my marathon training, will that help reduce possible injury since I'll be increasing my mileage?

Thanks for the info about the supplements. I think I'll seriously look into trying it out. My problem with knee injuries has to do with the amount of hills around here that I end up training on. I know they are great for me to gain muscle and speed, but sometimes they make my knees ache!
