OFFICIAL January 2012 5K, Half Marathon, Marathon, Goofy or Dopey Challenge Thread

My Husband just signed up today for the Disney Marathon. This will be his first full marathon. He has ran several halfs in Indianapolis. I am thinking of staying at the Wilderness Lodge, but he wants the Poly...

Hi,
We'll be at VWL for the half marathon. My wife and I signed up earlier this year. This will be our first half marathon. What better incentive than a trip to Disney! Though for me it was really a matter of stemming or reversing the tide on physical health. Nothing major but just that feeling after years of working a desk job that every year you feel less and less physically fit.

We started on the treadmill last winter, then in the spring we hit the brutal reality that running on the treadmill is nothing like running in the real world. After recalibrating expectations we now try to train exclusively outside.

Have fun!

I finished my first splash and dash race today! It was a 300m swim followed by a 5k. I finished in 46:56: 7:44 swim, 3:59 transition, and 35:13 run. The 5k was very challenging, hilly course. I'm happy that I finished but my time was slower then I expected. I think it was because I went out too fast on the swim and run. But hey I finished right!

I have my second half marathon of the year, I'm doing the Virginia Beach Half Marathon. I'm excited that it's flat but I know it's going to be super humid. Gotta keep training in this heat! I think both races are good training for the marathon.

I was going to say the same thing.....:confused::confused:

I can't say I really like the special medal for the 1/2 next year... Maybe it will look better once it's not a picture.

Are you sure that is confirmed?

I'm thinking it will look better as a medal than a picture and I think it might have the year dangling below it like they have in most other years. I am glad to see they are doing another colored medal. I was hoping one of the colored ones would have won the poll for the full this year.

This is the photo that RunDisney released on their facebook page, so one can only assume.

I'm surprised that the comments on their facebook page are mostly positive... The face kind of creeps me out, plus I prefer the all metal look.

I like it, its different from previous years and makes good use of the year.

I do like the use of the 12 being the half. Donalds eye being the 0 kind of makes him look creepy IMO. Maybe I'm just not a fan because I like the version from older years and don't have it yet. I guess I'll have to run it again in 2013 if they go back to that design...

I like it in theory, I think it's the eye that throws me off. The proportions seem weird, and I agree it's a little creepy. Also, is the main part of the eye a cut-out? Because up against any sort of real-life background, I don't think I'll love the way that looks.

Like others, I am iffy on this medal. It is different, but I think I like last years better. I am going after Mickey (my first) this year anyway.

It's definitely different, that's for sure. I can't tell if the eye is a cut-out or not, but I hope it is. I think it's better than the usual one but not as well done as the 2011 Mickey medal.

I'm still on the fence as well. Partly, it's the eye, but also it's the amount of colour. Maybe I was just hoping for more metal and less colour. I'm going to withhold too much judgement though until I see a finished version. It'll be special for reasons other than the medal and that's more important. :goodvibes

Sounds great, well done.

I really like the half medal. I have two of the "regular" Donald half medals, from this year and last, so I like how different this one is. I can't wait to add it to my collection. Yay!! :donald:

That is a great race. I did it in 2009 and at the time it was my PR (and my first sub 1:30). The section on the way out to the base and back can be a little boring but after you cross the bridge the route around the streets and along the boardwalk to the finish is great.

That is a race I'd do again in a second.
