Official inaugural Tower of Terror 10 miler thread. September 29, 2012

Does anyone know the capacity of this race? I know it's not anywhere near the size of the WDW 1/2, but I'm curious. Well really, I just want to know how far back in the pack I'll end up being, lol!

I believe on the corral breakout they listed #'s up to 10,400, so I'm assuming that's the capacity.

Bibs go up to 10400 but I'm sure some won't start.

I've read in the past that they have had powerade on course. Does anyone know if they have offered powerade zero? That's what I drink but I was planning on just drinking whatever they offer. However my coach mentioned earlier this week that I shouldn't do my chews along with an electrolyte with sugar. He said it would be too much sugar and my tummy would likely have an adverse reaction to it. What about the nunn tabs? Do they replace electrolytes? Do they contain sugar?

I think it's just straight Powerade, not zero. and, from what I can remember reading, I think Nuun's are electrolyte replacers without sugar. I've tried soooo hard to like them, because I know they would be better for me, but I can't get used to the taste. There will be water along with the powerade at the tables though...if you can time your chews with the water stops, just grab a cup and take them with a drink of water. Personally, I've never had a problem taking gels or sports beans with my gatorade...but I don't tend to have a sensitive stomach and I'm sure it affects everyone different! Mind you...this is coming from a person who wore brand new shoes for the Tinker Bell half too...I'm a rule-breaker like that :) But that's what all this training time is for...to figure out what works, and what doesn't, for you personally so there's no surprises on race day!

well, maybe we could find out what's going to be open if they'd ever SEND THE FINAL RACE INSTRUCTIONS!!!! SO much for them being avaialable one month prior to the event! :rolleyes2
::yes::

I know, right? I'm also hoping bag check will be good and that they list COLD water and sports drinks available on the course and post-race. ::yes::
:thumbsup2 PLEASE runDisney - no HOT water and Powerade this time!

I'm a total Nuun devotee - it's the only thing saving me from an untimely death, training in the Florida summer. (That might be a slight exaggeration... but not by much!) No sugar in Nuun, and higher amounts of electrolytes than in Gatorade. :thumbsup2 It definitely does not taste sweet, either. I'd describe it as tasting similar to a flavored Alka-Seltzer, but not as strong.

It just never occurred to me that the extra sugar might be an issue. I do zero in training because as a personal rule, I try not to drink calories, except alcohol. Lol. And very little of that. I was planning to just roll with whatever for the course but now I'm rethinking it. I have one more long run I can practice with. I better make it count.

That doesn't sound good. I hate alka seltzer. My coach also says it's not a flavor contest. It's a fuel contest. It's about what makes you perform your best not what tastes the best. Lol. Easier said than done. Lol

Yes, that's exactly what it tastes like! BLECH! :crazy2:

I think it's that alka seltzer-y part that I can't get past. Oh well, I just stick to my favorite Gatorade...currently I'm loving the Cucumber-Lime and Watermelon-Citrus!

So, we're supposed to get a "cool" front this weekend and I feel like a kid waiting for Christmas morning! Sunday AM low temps are supposed to be in the 60's! Frigid, right? Let me tell you, I cannot WAIT! And those gosh-darn weathermen had better be right about it too! I'm pushing my long run to sunday this weekend just because of the forecast!

Just got my glamrunner tutu!! And ordered my Sea Witch tank! Ursula is almost complete...Muahahahaha :cool1:

CYTOMAX--no fizz, tastes good and great stuff. :thumbsup2:thumbsup2 At least for me.

I found this info pack that they gave to the expo vendors, it says that there are around 12000 runners.

How do you find this stuff?? Sneaky, sneaky. This is an interesting document, with the demographic breakdowns. However, at one point it also mentions 15,000 race participants. These numbers include participants across all the running events over the weekend?? I'm in the minority age group. Lets go ladies!! Did 11.5 today.

We are doing the same up here in DFW. I don't think that we've seen temps in the 60s since early May! Sunday morning is going to be the best long run of all of our training for this race. :thumbsup2

I googled "tower of terror 10 miler merchandise" ;)

Hi folks. My DW (myweegirls) has posted on here, but I am also running in a couple of weeks and wanted to poke my head in and say, "Hello."

I am currently in Corral D because I did not have a current 10K time (well, until last month), hoping to move up a bit by submitting that time when I pick up my packet. Not moving up too far, though, as I am old and slow :thumbsup2

Mostly, though, I want to move up to have a little bit more cushion on the pace time, just in case.

Anyway, see you folks in a few weeks.

It says 15,000 participants, friends and family.

It says that there are 12,000 weekend race participants. So the ~10,400 for the Ten Miler, plus the 5K plus the Kids Races. Sounds exciting!

I plan on being there when the expo opens to get some TOT 10 miler merchandise. Wish they'd show us some teaser pics do I can make out my list. Wonder if I should shop first then get my packet or packet first then shop. Strategizing for the expo reminds me of strategizing for Toy Story Mania at rope drop. Get the fast pass first then ride in stand by or get in stand by line to ride then get fast pass. Lol

I am right there with you. I don't know which to do first. I'm holding off on buying the goofy in training jacket on disneystore.com in case there is a nice TOT one. I just don't want anything to sell out before I can buy it!
