Yes went to fleet feet and got fitted with some new balance. I had shin splints when I went and honestly they haven't gotten any better. I've taken some steroids that were prescribed and I got some compression sleeves but it still hurts. Saw a doctor who told me to take it easy, listen to my body and proceed with caution. When I run I can feel intense pressure in one spot on the side of my shin. It hurts even when I'm not running. I'm taking it easy, icing often and trying to move forward.
I know it's a big deal to change your stride and I'm CERTAINLY not any kind of an expert or doctor, but how does your foot strike when you run? If you're a heel striker you might possibly want to look into trying a midfoot strike. It's MUCH less impact when you land. This is kind of tied into the whole minimalist/barefoot running thing, but when you think about it we (as a species) were running without shoes for a LONG time, and just you try to run barefoot, you'll land on your forefoot not your heel. Just a thought!
