Official inaugural Tower of Terror 10 miler thread. September 29, 2012

I was curious did they send out the final race instructions yet? I thought I had an email from them a few weeks back but I cant find it now. I am hoping I didnt delete it.

Also, I thought about dressing up as a villian at first but am now leaning toward a super hero... I figured with all those Villians running around we need a super hero or two! :thumbsup2

Yes!! I was able to find out about that after catching up on a few pages of reading. I was surprised to see I was bib number 2595, so that puts me in corral B. I better get to training as I have been SLACKING!

The waiver does not tell your corral assignment, but there is a link on the runner info page on runDisney.com to corral groupings. 5 total corrals - Elite (Bibs 1-20), A (21-2500), B (2501-5000), C (5001-7500) & D (7501-10400).

The waiver won't have your corral on it, but it will have your bib number...get that and then check the race website...they have posted the corral breakdown by bib number. It was posted here too last week maybe so you may be able to go back page by page and find it. I think there were 4 corrals, A - C had 2500 each, then D had the rest, up to 10400...if I remember correctly??? It was something like that :)

Which color did you get and how was the fit? I am undecided between the tank and the black v neck...got my 9.5 miles in today, which I think deserves a new shirt reward :)

The fit on the shirt is bigger than normal...Most of my running tees from target and stuff are mediums but I use a small here. We got the teeshirt although my friend just told me about the tank top at dinner. We like tanks better than shirts (the black tank wasn't available yet when we bought them) so we might try to see if we can exchange the shirts for the tanks. I'm not sure about the sizing of those though. Sorry!

Went out for a 5 mile run today, really wanted to do it in a certain time, didn't quite hit it but still felt really good. Ended up doing my fastest 5k time ever, which is encouraging, tells me all his hard work is paying off! As soon as I got home though my son came up to me and said "can we please please please go for a bike ride??" How am I supposed to say no to a 3 year old saying that? So naturally we went for a bike ride. On the way home he said he wasn't ready to go home but was able to convince him to go for a long bike ride tomorrow. Good thing it's already a cross training day!

Is there anyone in Chicagoland who needs a running buddy?
4 weeks out and I am not doing well at all. I need a work-out buddy!
Anyone? PM me if you're interested! :)

How often will there be photo ops? Every other mile, opposite the water stations? Or just sporadically throughout the course?

I am doing the trail run in the morning too, any idea how many photo ops are in that one.

Any suggestions on how to carry a small camera, my phone will be on my arm to try and keep me on pace, so I can't use that.

My daughter really wants a Maleficient photo, any odds on her being at the trail run or at the after party?

They have been more frequent than the water stops at other runDisney races.

As for the 5K in the morning, I would hazard a guess of 4-7 photo ops, in comparison to previous 5K's.

I carry my camera in my hand. It has a rubber waterproofing case in case of sweat or water/powerade spillage. I loop the strap around my arm just in case I need to flex my hand. My iPhone is on my belt clip.

I would highly be highly surprised if Maleficent wasn't at the After Party, as she is a Villain first rank. She may also be on the course and use her wicked magic to quickly pop back and forth between party and race.

I remember reading that at one of the TOT 13K races the villains were out on the course with signs that said funny things like "you're not going make it", etc. Apparently there were some complaints that it was demotivating and they stopped doing it the next year. I wasn't at that race, but I think those would strike me as funny (and would actually spur me on!). I know I love the Sharpie quotes along the course during marathon weekend (they take my mind off the pain What do you all think? I'm hoping to see as many villains on the course as possible, and I don't mind if they're "uncheering" me on! :rotfl2:

Congrats to everyone on their long runs this weekend! I did 10 miles yesterday and it felt great (okay, I'm a tad sore this morning, I admit! :) It was really humid here too (Toronto area) so I think it was a good test for a Florida evening!

I think having the villains on the course with those type of signs would be funny as well. To be fair to those participants who feel the villians signs are demotivating they could have other Disney characters with supportive signs.

I would find it funny, too. I am in the Toronto area (east) and this weekend was hot. I did my 10 miles on Sunday and it was very hot and humid. BLech. Figure it makes me stronger, right?

Just wanted to share something I just discovered...Nuun Tablets. I'm sure some of you have tried them but I never had. They are electrolyte tabs you just add to your water but they don't have all the sugar and extra junk some of the other drinks like Gatorade have, which just doesn't sit well in my stomach. These are great. They have a bit of a fizzy taste but they work! I like the strawberry lemonade flavor best.
I started using Nuun a few weeks ago and what a difference they make! I was sweating out so much salt and Gatorade just wasn't cutting it.

I had to take a few training days off in order to heal, but today was my best run since starting back. 4.66 miles with an average pace of 11:10
That's great news - and a great time!

Morning all! I think, after last Saturday's sad run, I'm taking a new approach to my remaining long runs: WALK the first couple of miles, then run-walk as much as I can, switch to straight walking if the knee pain hits, but finish the distance. I hate that after all of my hard work I may wind up walking much of the race, but it is what it is, right? Better to finish semi-healthy and reasonably pain-free than to push it and wind up in worse shape. Or so I keep telling myself. :rolleyes2 I feel a little better about it after doing the math - even if I can only run-walk 3 of the 10 miles and walk the rest, my total average pace should keep me away from the sweepers. :thumbsup2

For the MNSSHP, our costumes will be 80's jogger. I'll be more like Olivia Newton John's Physical video. Been there, done that. I still have my unitard. We found leg warmers on clearance at Target.

You're going to have a great race! So few people are able to even think about completing a distance race, so whether you walk, run (or a little bit of both), it is a huge accomplishment! Especially when you've been persevering despite having such a rough time. I tore my achilles tendon about 6 weeks before the 2008 Disneyland Half and it was an incredibly disappointing and frustrating injury. In the end I was able to run about 4 miles and walked the rest and still finished in just over 3 hours. The medal proves you finished the distance, no matter how you got to the finish line! :cheer2:

I guess I'm officially in a "tapering" mode :) I ran 8 on sunday and from here on out my long weekend runs are 7, 10k, 5, then race day! Man was it HUMID on sunday here. :crazy2: The temps weren't so bad for at least the first half, but the humidity was certainly a buzz kill. My BF rode his bike along with me since he had gotten his run in the day before...it really made the time pass quickly having someone to talk to me...I just can't talk back much while I'm running :rotfl: I was soooo exhausted afterwards too...but I forged on to the outlet mall to hit the Labor Day weekend sales hoping to find a few things for the trip in a few weeks...not much luck, but at least all the walking kept me from stiffening up and getting too sore. It was all I could do to keep my eyes half open the rest of the day though...I was nodding off my 8pm!

I'm getting really excited for the race though! I bought my top and received the iron-on and new Team Sparkle skirt that I ordered in the mail on saturday, so I should have that all put together by this weekend! Oh, and I bought a new pair of shoes (without the advice of a running store) to try running in...eventhough I know better! I'm falling out of love with my Asics Cumulus. The new 14's just don't feel the same and I don't know what to do! On a whim, I tried on the Brooks Pure Cadence and they fit like a glove...they feel so good! So, after a week of researching and debating I bought them. I figure if I end up hating them for running, they are at least cute and comfortable enough to wear for walking the parks!

I'm east of Toronto too (where the remnants of Isaac are drenching us this morning!) I didn't mind either - I thought it felt like "home" (Disney style!) :) I'm totally with you - makes us stronger and will certainly have us prepared for a September Florida evening!

On the other hand, when I was training for the marathon in 2008 it was -18C and my water and powerade froze (it was a powerade-sicle! :rotfl2:

Oh the things we do for Disney bling!!
