Official inaugural Tower of Terror 10 miler thread. September 29, 2012

I noticed this morning that packet pick up authorization forms are available now on the race website, in case anyone needs to get one of those. And the corral breakdown was officially posted there too...I know someone posted it on FB earlier in the week and maybe here too and said it was from an email...and it was correct! :)

I got the first piece of my race outfit in the mail last night...a pair of knee socks that I'm not even sure I'm going to wear...but wanted to have them just in case. They are cute, so I hope they work out!

I'm flippin' DONE with this season. Seriously. It was 105 yesterday for my 4 mile run and it was just so awful. The park was noticably EMPTY, which I mentioned to my BF as we were leaving...I said "Look how empty the parking lot is...I guess we're the only morons who decided it was a good idea to run in this." To which he replied "We're not morons, we're dedicated." It's a fine line folks. A FIIIIINE line (that I think I'm stradling!). :rotfl:

:lmao: The temps are why I finally joined the gym (that and the special 4-month deal they are running now). I'm worried about doing so many training runs on the TM, though. I hope to run outside next week if the weather will cooperate.

I'm working on hydration and food this week. When does everyone plan to eat before the race? I do so many morning runs that I'm having a bit of difficulty with this.

:lmao::rotfl2::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl2::lmao: It is a fine line, isn't it?! I'm straddling, too... And I'll admit that I am NOT looking forward to a long run tomorrow at all: forecast is for a temp in the low-80s - yay! - and humidity around 93% - UGH!

I worry about the TM too...I have a gym membership and I have access to a TM at work too, but I try to limit my use of them only to when the weather is bad...like heavy rain, lightning, etc. To me it's just so different from running on the road and I don't want to get used to it. I will give myself a break every now and then and run inside just because it's hot though! But when I start to give myself a few too many breaks, it's just a slippery slope for me!

Ugh, same here. I have something I have to do saturday morning this week so I'm moving my long run to sunday morning instead...the BF is still gonna run saturday though so he said he'd ride his bike on sunday with me while I'm running. I should have him carry a spray bottle of cold water and mist me every few minutes! My plan only calls for 7 this weekend and next before I start to cut back a little, but if I feel ok, I'm gonna try to get 8 in, but that will be my max before race day.

I did my long run yesterday. Isaac is supposed to be visiting this weekend so I was afraid I wouldn't be able to get it in. It was supposed to be 10 for me but my legs are feeling some kind of tired. I cut it back to 7. I'm supposed to do 11 in 2 weeks but I think I'm going to cut that back to 8 for the same reason. I've already done 10 once and 9 twice so hopefully cutting back won't hurt. It feels good to know I only have one more long run before the event. Then I have to get right back at it as I have my first half on December 1.

Oh and funny story...my mom shared with me yesterday that my legs don't jiggle when I walk anymore. Thanks mom! I wasn't aware that they ever did jiggle but ok.

Corral Breakdown from Facebook-

‎1-20 elite
21-2500 corral a
2501-5000 corral b
5001-7500 corral c
7501-10400 corral d

I was super excited about being in C, then saw it was almost the last corral. :)

Thanks. :) I'm in Corral C as well.

So excited to go now. :) party:

I also thought of maybe a certain higher set of #'s being designated for those that registered as a team? I've never registered for any of these races as a team, so I'm not sure if they do anything different there...just a thought I had.

I registered back in April and my pace is 14 min miles. #6995
Who knows? My friend registered very same day and hers is in the 9000ish, but she also never has run more than a 9 miler.

I'm still trying to decide on a costume, both character and WHAT to wear.

What are you wearing?

Shorts, capris, pants?

Tank top, shirt, long sleeve or short sleeve?

Planning for cold?

I have been in Disney in Sept/Oct and most nights it's been comfortable, so I think I am going for running shorts. If I decide to add a tutu, I might switch to a tighter fitting short. I'm just not sure. :confused3

Pirate - easy

Black shorts, red sash for my waist, black dri-fit T-shirt, bandana, black shoes, hoop earing, maybe some pirate teeth.

Speaking of costumes, I am near complete the crown (Queen Narissa's human crown, very difficult to reproduce) and the outfit is still a ways to be done. My costume will be out there, not very runner friendly, but I am prepared. Also, I do plan on wearing a running outfit as my lowest layer to at least wick moisture from my body. Also, night in FL is comfortable to me, so I shouldn't have an issue, it's the sun that kills me in long runs, so no sun, means happy me.

Does anyone know if photopass is available during the race? or the after party?

We've been to several races, and I've never seen them using photopass. Usually people just hand over a camera and get a quick click before heading on. It's a much quicker picture process during the race than normal.

Exactly.:thumbsup2 That's what I did and plan to do again. I just need to set my camera up for nighttime conditions.

How often will there be photo ops? Every other mile, opposite the water stations? Or just sporadically throughout the course?

I am doing the trail run in the morning too, any idea how many photo ops are in that one.

Any suggestions on how to carry a small camera, my phone will be on my arm to try and keep me on pace, so I can't use that.

My daughter really wants a Maleficient photo, any odds on her being at the trail run or at the after party?

If you wear a hydration belt, you can buy a small camera case that has a belt loop on the back of it and wear it on your hydration belt. My BF did that for W&D half last year and we planned to do that for this race too...it worked really well for us.

I hope they give a list like they did with other races. If a lot of characters will be at the after party, I may try to run this race for time and get pictures after. If the good ones are only on the course, that plan will quickly change!

Does anybody know the total time for this race? I was looking at my Galloway Training plan and it has it listed as 3:30....that just seems so long to me??

We did 9.5 miles today in 2:18 my first time running that distance; the last 3 miles kicked my butt I have learned that I probably shouldn't do weight lifting the day before a long run :rotfl2:

Another idea beside the MAC lipstick would be to look for a lip ink/stain. Maybelline used to make one I think. It had two ends...one with the lip stain and one with the gloss to go on top. The directions said to apply the stain and wait 2 mins for it to dry. Avon used to sell some also. They generally stay a

thanks for the recommendations, poohbear! I'll have to check that out!
