Official 'how to get from point A to point B while at WDW' thread.

We're going to hop from DHS to AK on our last day. We'll be at DHS for early EMH, spend just a few hours, then hop over to AK. We normally rent a car, but prices so far are outrageously high compared to years past, so I'm almost tempted to go the ME route since we'll be at CR anyway. But this is the one hitch for me.

Now I know all the options available to me to get from one to the other: transfer resorts/TTC, etc. But what I don't have is real world knowledge on which transfers work best. For example, while it might make sense to catch the bus/boat to the BW area resorts to catch a bus to AK, I know the buses there make multiple stops at all the resorts and/or have pretty full buses. Similarly the choice between transferring to larger resorts with multiple stops vs. resorts that share buses with other resorts to DHS/AK. Using the AKL route is an option, but is it better to get off and wait for an AK bus at the DVC area or main building? Also, I know DHS and AK buses make stops at the TTC, but I haven't a clue how often those tend to run or how crowded they tend to be. In fact, I can't even remember ever noticing one. :scratchin Just where are they in the resort line-up at the parks?

So, was just wondering if anyone can give me there experience with similar transfers? Thanks!
There are park to park buses..pretty much run direct. With the exception of those heading to MK. All park buses drop (and pick up) at the TTC when using the MK. Only resort buses go right into MK...all others use TTC and then you either monorail or ferry over to MK. But, for the other parks, the buses run directly. So, take the bus to AK right from DHS...no issue at all.

Thank you for info. With the #2 suggestion I thought with the park closing at 7 bus would stop around 7:30 so we could go if they will go to 8:30. It's grad night at the park that night will that make a difference
With it being a grad night, the park buses will be running even longer....90-120 mins after the park closes for grad night.

Can someone help a newbie with the following times (I'm sure I can ask at the desk at the hotel but I like to plan ahead).

We're staying at ASMU. I have no idea how far any of the parks are so what time should we get on the bus for:

8:00 a.m. ADR at MK?
8:00 a.m. ADR at Epcot?
8:00 a.m. ADR at AK?
6:30 p.m. ADR at Chef Mickeys (Contemporary right?)

Thank you so much!

Okay...

Wait...

Huh?!

Seriously, HOW in the hundreds of hours I have clocked reading/researching WDW, and after all those trips, did I somehow miss that there are park to park buses?! Okay, to be fair, we haven't used the bus system since our first trip after we moved to rental cars, so that could be it. But you'd think I'd have read it somewhere! Don't I feel like a proper ijit! ;) Thanks for setting me straight. :thumbsup2

Now that that is said....where do those park-to-park buses pick-up at DHS/AK? Just past the resort bus line perhaps?

We will be staying at Embassy Suites LBV this trip - due to free nights for frequent travel. Now, this will be our first time of off property stay.... hoping it doesn't ruin the magic....

I'd like to know if we can park our car daily at DTD (ES LBV is very close to DTD) and catch a shuttle to the parks from there.....

Is this wrong? The roads in the world scare me and I don't care to be driving around lost wasting time when I could be screaming on rides and laughing with characters.

I'm pretty sure that buses do not run for grad night. All grad night schools must provide their own transportation, and the grads are literally locked in the park until the end of the night. If they need to leave before the end, the schools must make special arrangements in advance.

In fact, Disney buses may stop running earlier than usual for a 7 p.m. close, because it's a "hard close," and security makes sure every day guest is out of the park before grad night starts.

8am at MK..be out at the MK bus stop by 6:45-7
8am at Epcot...same thing but the Epcot stop
and the same for AK
Chef Mickey's...bus to MK by 5:30ish,walk over to CR..about 8 min walk

You will see signage at each park bus area which will tell you where to find the park to park buses. It's all very easy. Don't feel badly...I've been to WDW about 30 times in 10 years now...I just took the bus to AK from MK (TTC) for the first time.

There are no buses that run from DTD to any parks. You will have to take a resort bus to a resort that is close to the park you want and then head to the park from there. For instance....MK, take the bus to the CR and then walk over to MK. Epcot? Bus to BC and walk in via the Intl Gateway. DHS? Bus to BW and walk or boat to DHS from there. AK? Bus to AKL and then transfer to AK bus. It is time consuming though.

I'm pretty sure that buses do not run for grad night. All grad night schools must provide their own transportation, and the grads are literally locked in the park until the end of the night. If they need to leave before the end, the schools must make special arrangements in advance.

Well, I'll be a monkey's uncle. Who knew??!! Guess I do now. So, it may be necessary to head to a different park to get back to POFQ or just to head to DTD and then take a boat back.

That sounds like a plan also or we might just drive or just change our ADR to another place Pam

There will be buses running from resorts to parks starting at 6:30. To get to Chef Mickey's, be out at the MK bus stop by 6:45. These buses come less frequently than the regular buses do. When you get on the bus, ask the driver which is faster to the CR...monorail or walking. He may offer to just drop you off at the CR before or after he gets to MK. If the offer isn't made (and it isn't always offered), I would just walk over to the CR from the MK...takes about 8 mins.

For your dinner ADRs, I would try to get to the nearest park about 40 mins before your ADR and then get to the restaurant from there...as long as the park is open. I try to book my resort ADRs according to the park I will be in that day.
I would use a cab from the Yachtsman...it should be less than $10 each way. Other than that, you may very well need to go to DTD and transfer if no parks are still open...either before or after your meal. The buses run very late each night to and from DTD.

thanks for the very prompt reply!very helpful

We have a split stay and it's our first time w/no car. On the day we move from POP to BC, I would like to have breakfast at WPE in DTD. Just trying to figure out the easiest/fastest way to do this.

Do the buses to DTD start leaving the resorts at 9 (since that when it opens)? All resorts, or only a select few?

It seems like there are some issues getting from DTD back to the resorts in the mornings. When do buses generally start running back to the resorts? (We are going the last week in January)

If all else fails, does anyone know how much a cab would be from DTD to BC? Is there a taxi stand on that side of DTD?

TIA!

ok after reading this whole thread (i may have skipped a few)

We are staying at CBR. On our last day we have an 820am ressie at Kouzzina.

The hours of the parks that day are EPCOT 9am and DHS 9am. Here are my options...which would be the best/fastest/easiest :)

CBR-EPCOT-boat *** thinking this isnt an option since the park wont be open yet to get to the Intl. Gateway.
CBR-EPCOT-resort bus to BW
CBR-DHS-walkway
CBR-DHS-boat
CBR-DHS-resort bus to BW

Thanks for the help :)

Correct.

CBR-EPCOT-resort bus to BW

You could try, but there aren't normally buses running from the parks to the resorts that early, so you'll likely be waiting for a while.

CBR-DHS-walkway

This is your best bet.

CBR-DHS-boat

This will work, too, but it will probably take more time than walking

CBR-DHS-resort bus to BW

Same answer as option 2.

Our trip is in a few weeks (Jan 29th) and I'm starting to question my original plan for our first day which is to go to the Hoop Dee Doo Review for the 5pm show. Our flight lands at 1:40pm, taking towncar service to POP with a stop at grocery store, check-in at Pop, then take a taxi to Fort Wildnerness Resort, then internal bus shuttle to Pioneer Hall.

The question is...do you think I'll have enough time or should I look to revise plan? Perhaps have food delivered to hotel and take DME to POP then taxi it over to HDDR? Do HDDR another night?

TIA

I would definitely move HDDR to another night. Whether you take ME or a town car, you'll still be rushing to make it on time. If your plane arrives late and you don't make it you won't get a refund. I wouldn't make a pre-paid reservation on arrival day. Too many things can go wrong.

Thanks for your insight...we are going to switch our HDDR reservation to a different day. :thumbsup2

can someone explain to a WDW dummy how to get from ASMU to different resorts? Do we take a bus to the Transportation Center and then get a different bus there? (or monorail?) What would be the process to get to each of the following: Grand Floridian, Beach Club, Poly? And how long should I expect each will take to/from? I want to book a (character) breakfast on our last day and would like whichever will be easiest to get to. TIA! :worship: If it's a real PITA, we might as well just jump in a cab.

While we're on the subject of buses - are there different buses for each destination at ASMU? Or does each bus stop at all the parks?

While we're on the subject of buses - are there different buses for each destination at ASMU? Or does each bus stop at all the parks?
Lets start with your last question first.....there will be different buses to each of the parks from ASMu. It will be obvious when you see the stops at the resort. Each bus that comes along (about every 20 mins or so) will have it's destination stated on the bus itself...front and sides.

So,to get to another resort....there are no resort buses that go to the TTC. That is more of a spot for offsite buses to drop off offsite guests who can then take buses to DHS and AK and the monorail or ferry to MK and the monorail to Epcot.
So, how do you get to another resort from ASMu?? You want to head to the closest park. If you want to get to GF, CR, WL, or Polynesian, take the bus to the MK about an hour before your ADR time. There will be buses running to the parks about 6:30am for park restaurants. When get to MK,then you can either take the monorail to CR, Poly, or GF or a boat to WL, GF or Poly. You can walk to CR from MK in about 8 mins.

You want to head over to YC/BC? Take the bus to DHS and then boat or walk to YC/BC. The only issue you may have is that the boats may not be running early enough for you. There is a nice walkway that runs between DHS and the S/D, YC/BC and BW..as well as to Epcot. It should take about 20 mins to make the walk.

To get to AKL, take the bus to AK and then transfer to AKL on the bus.

It does take time to do this...so plan accordingly. For your departure day, be sure to leave plenty of time to return to your resort for departure back to the airport. IF you are using DME, you will need to be back at the resort no less than 4 hrs before flight time...DME picks you up about 3 hrs before and you need to be at the bus stop, ready to go, about 15 mins before your stated pickup time. It may be best, especially on your departure day, if you plan on using a cab to get back and forth.
