Official Dopey 2017 Thread

Many of the races that I run offer "Registration Protector" insurance - an insurance policy that costs runners less than $10 per event. The insurance provides a refund if a runner can't participate in an event for a covered reason - including injury. The program is administered directly by Active.com and is underwritten by Allianz Global Assistance. But Disney does not offer this for its races for some reason.

That's what I was talking about. Weird since Active does their races...

Which anniversary are you talking about? Disneyland?
Yes it was 1DL half 10th anniversary. So people usually show up more for those medals/etc. Which would explain why last years sold out so quickly, even if the price was a little over what people would normally support

*shudder* I'm guessing at least $575 by 2018. :(

That's what I was thinking too. I was thinking that by the time active fees got tacked on it'd be in the neighborhood of $600-630.....

I'm sitting aside $600 for this upcoming one, but after this next year o' disney races, I gotta step back. My wallet will appreciate the favor :rotfl2:

I'd like to go 3:45 for the full. My normal plan is 24 for the 5k, 48 for the 10k, 1:50 for the half and I"d love 3:45 for the full. This year I did 22 or 21 for hte 5k, 47 for the 10k, 1:50 for the half, and like 5 hours for the full. The wheels kind of fell off plus I don't do heat well. My previous dopey was a 4 hour marathon.

Sweet! It looks like we're in the same ballpark in terms of goal times. What kind of training plan do you follow? I am always interested in learning about others training methodology.

I completely agree with you about the heat, as a northerner myself (Wisconsin) it's always difficult coming from -20 to 60 in Disney. One thing that I thought helped me this year was that for the last two weeks of my training in the frozen tundra I completely overdressed to try to simulate the excessive heat difference. It helped with the heat, but I still couldn't account for the humidity. I watched during the Olympic Trials that Meb and Galen used ice vests and gloves to prematurely lower their core body temp just prior to the LA heated race. I might try something similar during my next local hot race (within reason of course as I'm not surrounded my medical professionals trying to cool me off).

Yeah, I think $625 after Active fees is probably my breaking point for 2017. That said, husband won't be running any races (though he was thinking about it when I was just planning to do Goofy - now that I'm back on the Dopey train, I think he's going to hold off for a bit), so I can redirect that money elsewhere? I'm also only planning to do Dopey and DDD in 2017, unlike this year.

I pretty much plan for a $600 entry fee every year. It still seems like it will be somewhere within 20 bucks on either side of that after Active fees. There's a reason I only pay for a few races a year.

I think we'll see about that for 17, maybe a bit more for 18. I'm thinking we might hit $650 after fees for 18. I have to see how 17 goes before I even think about 18. 17 for me will be this year's race calendar for you. If I'm still upright and walking in October? *Then* I can think about Dopey in 18 :rotfl::lmao:

Nice, right now I'm training for Vineman Full Ironman in July. Once I finish that I'll just extend my long runs and probably start looking at speed work more

Kudos on the ironman training. I'm in awe of those that can do an ironman. Best of luck to you on the training and the race itself!

Anybody know how quickly Dopey Challenge filled up this year? I plan to register but am hoping for less stress about it that what I had registering for 2015 W&D. :-)

It was either this thread or another one where the hypothesis was AP and DVC both sold out in under or about an hour. Those are presales. Regular opened and sold out somewhere around 10-11 hours later. I believe that same person said the year before Dopey sold out in only 4ish hours.

That is my big worry about it selling out before I can register. I was looking at flights today and prices aren't bad but the amount of days I am going in depends on if I get registered for dopey or not.

There shouldn't be a problem getting in for Dopey if you're flexible about the registration method. There were travel agents trying desperately to get rid of Dopey bibs well into December for this past year's event. If something happens and you're not able to get in through general registration, contact a TA soon (I've had good luck with Acclaim) thereafter. I think some of them even maintain a first come first served list if you tell them you're looking for a bib before registration. There's no obligation so it's like an insurance policy.

Im looking to go dopey 2017 booked the flights and all as they were to good to turn down lol. Will be nipping home early from work to get the tickets booked assuming that would be ok?

If I was buying this early, I would just make sure to do something refundable. There's a lot of possibility for change between then and now....
