Official Dopey 2017 Thread

Oof. Prices so far...

2013: $495
2014: $530
2015: $550

I'm gonna guess $560-$570. I think the Dumbo price increase really scared people away this year ($320 for 2015 - sold out almost immediately vs. $350 for this year - still open almost 3 weeks later) so it'll be interesting to see what they do.

It was also an anniversary year last year - which would have lead to more hype and people signing up. This year is an off year as far as round numbers go. Plus I think its a big year for Donald? Isn't it the 20th?

However you are correct that they might be hitting the upper limit of the prices on some of the races where people are reconsidering doing the event. I was going to do dumbo till I saw the price and then decided that I didnt enjoy the race $350 worth.

Which anniversary are you talking about? Disneyland?

Anyone wanna guess what the price point for Dopey is going to be in 2017?

I'm trying to not be scared away by pricing since this will be my first year. I have just told myself I need to have at least $600 set aside in time to register so anything less will feel like a bonus. Hopefully it doesn't go up to $600 so active fees push it way over. I saw that with Dumbo! I had thought about doing it but just so much more for us to travel to Disney land and to tack that on as well just makes it too much. I would rather put that money towards Dopey ;)

Yeah the fees tack on an additional 6.5-7%...so at the $550 price point it was really $588ish when all was said and done. What fun!
I have already planned at least 600. This will be the one and done Dopey. Moving on to small local run and triathlons. Who would have thought that 3 years ago at 53 I would have gotten into running and now I wanted to do some different lengths of triathlons
Well sure, you say that now...:teeth:

I keep trying to convince myself this will be a one and done for me too, but I can definitely see myself doing it again. Not every year by any means, but I'm sure I'll do it again at some point.

Website is updated but doesn't look like they have new rates avail. I have to account for about 30% more due to the Canadian $$ seriously being in the toilet but I really want this for 2017 don't want to do the anniversary year.

Never say never :)

Very true. I can relate to this very much. Up until registration opened last April for 2016 I said I would NEVER run a full. Then I said I would NEVER run a challenge with a full. Now look at what I have convinced myself to do :)

Stinks about having to account for the extra money but I'm on the same page with wanting to do it this year ... The Anniversary year doesn't draw me in since I haven't done it before and I have a feeling that will be crazy to register for and pay for!

With the big price for the Dopey Challenge, does anyone know of any insurance that one can get to cover you for unforeseen circumstances? i.e Injury

No but you can defer to run the following year then.

Just to add some clarification. You may be able to defer if your injury happens early enough in the training cycle AND you quickly make the decision to defer. Otherwise you will end up losing your entry fee. There are a limited number of deferrals available for each race and when they are filled you are just out of luck.

Not a complaint about the policy, folks just need to know that deferring is more complicated than just deciding to do it.

Other races have an option to purchase insurance...can't remember if runDisney has this option or not. Anyone else know?

I know when I have booked a resort through runDisney, they have asked if I wanted to add insurance, and at least one time they told me it would cover the cost of the race. I don't know if the insurance covered injuries or not, but I would think it would. And I think there are places you can purchase travel insurance as long as it is purchased within a certain amount time - again I don't know all the details or if this type of insurance would cover the cost of the race.
