Official Disneyland ½ Marathon & 5k

Yikes, due to both knees being injured I did not get the training I wanted in. :confused3I've been trying to hike, but the numbers of miles were alot less than a half...maybe a 10k. Well not much I can do now, just hope I can qualify for my C2C medal! Good luck to everyone and have fun!:thumbsup2

Anyone run the WDW marathon relay and is going for DL or did Tink? It doesn't say on the website that it counts for Coast to coast but I figure it is because they aren't having it again next year. Any thoughts?

Taper question: I just got back from an Alaskan cruise last week. (It was WONDERful.:)

I was able to do a 12 mi run right before we left (almost 2 weeks ago now) and was able to do a few 5Ks on the ship. I was thinking to do another long run when we got back, but jet lag and the weather hasn't cooperated. I did get in a 6 mi run tonight.

Do you think it is worth doing a 10+ mi run this weekend (1 week before the race), or should I just taper at this point? Usually I would do my longest run about 2 weeks before the race.

To taper or not to taper?

Ran 12 miles last weekend. Ran 10 miles the weekend before. This week for the mid-week runs, it's been crazy busy and I have been only able to get in a quick 4 mile run tonight. Ran at a faster pace than normal for me and I felt great.

What would you do for the weekend running this weekend? Another long run to further prepare? Cut it short to 8 maybe? Another 10? I don't want to risk injury but I also don't want to undershoot this event. I want to be able to finish well/strong and not stuggle to the finish.

Advice anyone?

It all depends on how your training has gone and how strong of a runner you are. For me, I ran 10 miles today because my training has been derailed a bit the past 4 weeks. I decided to do 10 miles today because I did 13 miles a month ago and won't see a decrease in miles after the race as I am gearing up for racing season. But if you're a new runner, I wouldn't recommend a long run this weekend. I don't know how much this helps either of you but it's just my 2 cents!

I usually get queasy if I eat too early in the morning, so I was a bit concerned about breakfast before the race since I knew I would need to eat to have the energy necessary. After talking to runDisney veteran (and WDW Today podcaster Mike Scopa), he recommended applesauce. That worked great for me as I could eat it without feeling queasy and it helped fuel me along the course. I also had one of those race chews and then the stuff they handed out near Angels Stadium.

The weird thing is that after the race, I felt quite finicky about what I wanted to eat. Mealtime was a wait and see what I feel like moment, but fortunately, I was able to get into Cafe Orleans when I decided that gumbo sounded amazing.

I appreciated those finishers cheering me on as I neared the finish, even if I did feel slightly envious that they were already on their way back to their hotels:rotfl2:.

After the finish, I walk along the finish route and cheer others on. Then I head back, take a shower and head to the park to eat all the bad food I have been avoiding for the last few weeks.

I would love to do that--I'm always towards the end so by the time I finish I never see anyone to cheer on!

And to Tabetha, I will be wearing a costume so it's a good bet you'd know me when you see me! :) I can't help myself.

You can email them (look on the Run Disney website) or check at the Expo. I would think that the race counts because it was a half marathon also...but that's just my opinion.

I'm praying that the lower elevation will help my timing.

Where does the race finish?

Any tips for the morning? What time to leave? Where to get something good for breakfast? A good route to get to the start? What's after the finish line? I'm coming from the Sheraton Park, hopefully alert, on time, and ready to run!

For getting there, I think that hotel is on the shuttle stop, but double check b/c not 100% on it. If it is, you can take it and then walk down DTD to the start area. You could also walk~ down Harbor to Katella, left on Katella and right on DL Drive. If you take the shuttle and go through DTD, some places open b/w 3 & 3:30 for food/coffee. La Brea is a bakery and that's usually open. Jamba Juice and Haagen Daaz Ice-cream (:confused3) is open. After the finish, there's some stuff in the finish area but not much.

Any suggestions on the best way back to LAX from DLR on Monday for a ~ 2:30PM flight (for 2 people)?

Either the DL Express or Super Shuttle. Both'll pick up and drop off in time.

Where does the race finish?

The finish is on a service road behind the ESPN Zone in DTD and in front of the DL hotel. If you go to the expo from the parks/DTD side, you'll cross over that road and see the finish line all set up.

Hopefully today's fog will stick around~ just checked weather and right now it's 68 and cloudy. No fog yet for Sunday, but fingers crossed!

I'm keeping my fingers crossed too !!!! We did 7 miles this morning in the cool/foggy weather and it was GREAT!! Our pace was faster than when we run in the afternoon.

I hope we have a little cloud cove/overcast in the morning. At least there is NO heatwave like a few years ago.

Just arrived at Disneyland! We're staying at the Sheraton Park (with a great view of DCA) and looking forward to enjoying the parks all week before the race. Loved walking around the area and DTD late afternoon today. So cool how everything is close together (we usually go to WDW). I'm thinking I'll just walk to the race Sunday, but will time it later in the week to make sure.

Lucky you !! We are driving down on Thurs. so just a few more days for us.

It is nice that everything is so close together and in walking distance. Enjoy the parks.

I get there on Thursday... *fingers crossed* for a good view of the parks from the Sheraton.

Nice.

64 with am clouds is pretty good conditions. I wouldn't mind a bit cooler, but the clouds keep it from warming up too soon. 63 with morning overcast was the best it has been since the first year, which was in late September.

Now the bigger issue is making sure the Tropical Storm doesn't interfer with travel plans next Friday- Not so worried they'll be directly impacted (unless it keeps shifting and hits texas where our layover is) but if flights get delays Wed/Thur it may hurt us early early friday...

I just realized that I have a connection in Texas on Friday. Crap....

Not sure where you are coming from but we (flying from MCO) should sail right through.. Issac seems that he'll be in or north of Arkansas Friday morning and be pretty weak by then..

This trip has been unplanned on my part.

I booked my flight on July 10th - only after realizing that I hadn't booked it yet.

I booked my hotel on August 14th - only after realizing that I hadn't booked it yet.

I have no plans of how I'm getting to my hotel Friday night - my flight lands around 7:30.

I asked my boss last week for this Friday off - if she had said no...well, I guess I would have worked a half day at the office and a half day from my hotel.

I didn't order park tickets.

I have no plans on where I'm eating.

I have no idea how I'm getting to the race start (although following 14,000 people at 4 am is probably the best plan there is).

I have no idea WHAT I'm doing Sunday after the race- I'm taking the red-eye back so I might try to get in some park time?

Actually, other than the expo Saturday and the race on Sunday, I have no plans for the weekend.

Oh, and after moving here 2 weeks ago, I am still not unpacked and I realized this weekend that the box of souvenirs from all of my trips is not here. I can't even describe how upset I am about that.

And I've run exactly 2 times in the last 2 months. Once in July for less than 3 miles and once last Sunday for 13.1 miles.

I might be regretting this......

There are a couple of meets planned - one is on Friday 6:45PM at Trader Joe's and the other is in DTD at 4:30PM on Saturday. I know there are a bunch of people who are going solo and I think they'll probably make plans to go somewhere after the meet on Saturday :)

You could always walk part of the race and run what you can.

The DL Express picks up at both LAX and SNA - check the website to see whether your hotel is included on the pick ups and drop offs. http://graylineanaheim.com/shuttles.shtml

GET Travel will have a booth at the expo and they'll be selling discounted park tickets.
