Official Disneyland ½ Marathon & 5k

There are a couple of meets planned - one is on Friday 6:45PM at Trader Joe's and the other is in DTD at 4:30PM on Saturday. I know there are a bunch of people who are going solo and I think they'll probably make plans to go somewhere after the meet on Saturday :)

You could always walk part of the race and run what you can.

The DL Express picks up at both LAX and SNA - check the website to see whether your hotel is included on the pick ups and drop offs. http://graylineanaheim.com/shuttles.shtml

GET Travel will have a booth at the expo and they'll be selling discounted tickets
.

I found a $5 off coupon from the Anaheim Orange County Vistors Bureau for the Disneyland Express.

How can one possibly buy transportation tickets at the Get Travel expo booth when we would have already needed them to get to the expo. Sort of defeats the purpose - unless you only need them for the ride back to the airport. :rotfl2:

Another question - I just posted this on my Tower of Terror 10 miler thread as well.

Is it normal to feel achy after a high mile run? I'm 50 and don't know if its just the achiness of being 50 or is it quite normal to feel some muscle soreness. Nothing so bad to keep me from doing anything but just soreness. You'd think I'd be used to it by now as I've been running for about a year and a half now, but I always feel a bit sore the next day after a high mile run. I roll out my muscles before and after a run and do the chocolate milk thing after a run but still feel it the next day. Please tell me I'm not the only one like this.:sad2:

That sounds pretty normal. I have been running and racing for 13 years now and I still get general achiness after long runs or hard workouts. I'm 48 BTW. I'm sure I will be feeling that after the race on Sunday morning, but a new PR and a few rides on Radiator Springs Racers and California Screaming should take care of it.

I changed my original post to say park tickets. I was replying to the PP on my phone and typed some of the stuff out of order. They were asking about where to get park tickets and when I referred to the discounted tickets from the Get Travel booth, I should have said park tickets and not just tickets.

Thanks for the reassurance. Hard to tell nowadays what is normal muscle achiness and just plain age.

DH is running with me. We're taking our DS17 with us. He's in charge of helping me up and out of some of the lower sitting ride cars (like the Matterhorn) on Sunday.

It might not be pretty.

Its fairly normal. Hell I've been known to get achy after a long run myself and I turn 23 on Sunday.

Also wanted to say I'm not going to be popping in at the meet ups since I'll bee hanging out with a fellow Disney fan/the girl I'll be running with. But if any of you see me around the park with a girl around my age don't be afraid to say hi (see my TR pics to see how I look, though I'm a bit heavier right now, summer hasn't been very kind)! I'll probably be wearing some of my old I Did It! shirts.

Anyone know what the internet situation is at the DL resort hotels (ie DGC)? With classes starting the morning after I get back I need to keep an eye on things a bit more than my phone can provide. (I'm spoiled with the free wireless at WDW.) TIA!

I don't remember if it is free, but they do have it.

Ran 5 miles yesterday and my left ankle is hurting. Just praying that i will get better by the end of this week before the race. Argh why me????? I miss the opportunity to get the park ticket at get travel. Looks like i have to go to the Get Travel booth at the EXPO Saturday morning to get them.

Nice.

64 with am clouds is pretty good conditions. I wouldn't mind a bit cooler, but the clouds keep it from warming up too soon. 63 with morning overcast was the best it has been since the first year, which was in late September.

Yeah, 10 degrees cooler and it would be perfect.

I remember reading somewhere you mentioned you were a local. So did you guys feel any of the EQ clusters up there that were down near SD yesterday? In the article I read I didn't see any range of who felt them and was just curious.

What you want to look for is how many days until you feel back to normal. I'm often sore the afternoon of an event or high mile day and a little better the next day and almost back to normal the next.

This describes me to a "T".

No, this is the first I heard of it. But, to be honest, by "local" I'm about as far NW of DL as you are south.

This trip has been unplanned on my part.

I booked my flight on July 10th - only after realizing that I hadn't booked it yet.

I booked my hotel on August 14th - only after realizing that I hadn't booked it yet.

I have no plans of how I'm getting to my hotel Friday night - my flight lands around 7:30.

I asked my boss last week for this Friday off - if she had said no...well, I guess I would have worked a half day at the office and a half day from my hotel.

I didn't order park tickets.

I have no plans on where I'm eating.

I have no idea how I'm getting to the race start (although following 14,000 people at 4 am is probably the best plan there is).

I have no idea WHAT I'm doing Sunday after the race- I'm taking the red-eye back so I might try to get in some park time?

Actually, other than the expo Saturday and the race on Sunday, I have no plans for the weekend.

Oh, and after moving here 2 weeks ago, I am still not unpacked and I realized this weekend that the box of souvenirs from all of my trips is not here. I can't even describe how upset I am about that.

And I've run exactly 2 times in the last 2 months. Once in July for less than 3 miles and once last Sunday for 13.1 miles.

I might be regretting this......

Fortunately, there are plenty of solutions for your situation. Disneyland Resort is much smaller than WDW, and therefore, less overwhelming. Make a reservation with Super Shuttle for transportation from/to airport. Get your park tickets at the Expo. Wander around the parks and eat whatever strikes your fancy. It sounds like you just need to time to relax and not try to do/see everything at the parks. Take care of yourself - run if you can and walk the rest. Hope it will be a nice weekend despite the challenges you've had over the past few months!

Ice your ankle. You could always get it taped at the expo if KT Tape is there. Hope you feel better in time for the race :)

Agree with icing and taping.
BTW do they tape you there? If they do, i really want them to do it. I have used KT Tape and every time it's come off within the first 2 miles of the run. I have used a different tape and it's stayed so I really want them to do it and see if I am doing something wrong with their tape.

As long as KT Tape is there, they should do the taping for free. I think they only tape one area for free. If you want say both of your ankles taped, they ask that you buy some tape. The pro tape stays on a bit longer so you could ask them to use that tape. Be careful taking it off, I was told that it's a lot stickier than the regular tape. You might need baby oil or to wet the tape to loosen the adhesive.

I've put Pro Kt tape on by using their video on archillis tendinitis. Not even sure if that is the problem but i try not to move it as much and will not do any running before the race. Not sticking too well after shower. Bought the KT tape at the expo back in January so hopefully its the same quality as they have now.

Getting excited at the same time nervous. Anyone heard of 85 degree bakery?

KT Tape will be at the expo so that's good. I also have trouble with the tape adhering to my calves.

Also, if you have the time and chance, I recommend that you swing by the bakery. I really dig the moon cakes there.
