I thought you guys would like to see all the cakes and mini cakes prepared by the Grand Floridian pastry team for Disney's Fairy Tale Weddings' 2014 Bridal Showcase.

This first one is the photo-mapping projection cake they're renting for $2,900. It has three designs or you can customize it with your own photos. You get a 5-tier fake cake that's projected on 2 sides from a giant gift box. If you want real, edible cake, you buy that separately. Even the castle cake topper is sold separately. This cake counts toward the Wishes Collection enhancement minimums.

Here are the minicakes they had on display at this year's showcase. It felt like there were fewer, or maybe just not as many elaborate cupcakes and mini cakes as last time...?

We are celebrating my DD8's birthday on our trip in January. I was thinking of ordering a cake to be delivered to our dinner at The Garden Grill. I like fondant and am sure she would like a Frozen theme. There is 5 of us (4 adults, 1 child). Any recommendations and ideas on cost?

Lurkyloo, I love the snow flurries mini cake shown, do you think they would be able to do that cake but sub the little bride and groom mickey ears on top instead of the top snowflake? That would be just about perfect for our anniversary cake, I think.

I have received conflicting information by CMs. I am fortunate to have a ressie at CRT for an upcoming trip. However, DH only booked it for 2 and not 3 (he forgot to add the baby who's turning 1 on that day, celebrating first birthday in style) I want to order a custom cake but was told by one CM that my son needed to be on the ressie to do so and another said I just need the confirmation number. Does anyone know which CM was correct? TIA :)

I believe everyone on your party needs to be accounted for in your reservation, whether they are eating or not, due to occupancy laws for the restaurant.

Yes I am aware that everyone needs to be accounted for. I am trying to change the ressie for 3 to include my son, but so far no such luck. I was told to call a week before my trip to see if any availability or just walk-up with him since I have a first seating lunch ressie and they "more than likely accommodate since disney likes to make everything magical". I am just curious to whether I can order a cake for him even though he's not on the ressie "yet". I am willing to change the ressie for just my son and husband to dine, but want to make sure a cake is ordered beforehand.

We were never asked who was on the reservation just for a reservation number.

Thank you. I appreciate it :)

No problem come to think of it I don't even think I was asked for a reservation number just which time we had it.

For me personally I don't get why it is their business if the person is on the reservation or not. I have a friend who lost her son 3 years ago and every year they still have a cake with his name on his birthday. Would they tell a mother she couldn't have that? I guess they are concerned if you get turned away but it is a 1 year old not a 30 year old trying to be added. Yes there are occupancy laws and I always caution people of them when they want to add just one more person even a child but I can't imagine you'll have an issue with a baby. I've been turned away extras but that was when I needed an actual seat not just a highchair or place for a stroller.

That sounds like something they could do! :thumbsup2

Yeah, the team making your cake does not care who is and isn't on the reservation. They just use the reservation number to match you with your cake.

Lurkyloo,

Do you happen to know what price point the cupcakes will range from?

TIA!

I just ordered my cake!

8 inch vanilla cake with strawberry mousse filling and a 2d Star Wars cut out image on the top"

Spent the extra $30 in the end to get the fondant and the extra decorations put on - wasn't going to bother but hey, it's only money right? And I'm sure my boys will be blown away by it.

I was really worried about placing the order over the phone (I'm from the uk and sometimes the floridians don't understand my accent but it was really easy to order through private dining at the contemporary.

I just hope it turns out ok

For weddings it seems to range from about $4 each for simple piped frosting to $8 or $9 for more elaborate creations. Let us know if they let you order cupcakes anywhere. People have had trouble in the past... :thumbsup2

drat this thread is filled with enablers! ;)

I now want a mini-cake for each of us! Love the light up castle! (but dd and dh are not fans of white chocolate! ) DD is a huge Tinkerbelle fan - but its dh's birthday! :lmao:

So DH and I got married at Disney in January 2014 and the GF made our cake. It was vanilla with amaretto and bailey cream mousse.

My questions are:
1) Will the GF deliver a custom cake - i.e. vanilla with bailey mousse - to magic kingdom?
2) If not, does the contemporary have the same type of filling?

My DH LOVED our wedding cake and he is not a huge cake eater. We've saved the top tier for our one year anniversary, but he wants to eat it now! LOL! So if I can get this done I know he'll be happy as well as my son, who he is now teaching the words cake and ice cream! O-o

TIA :)

I hope the picture loaded :)

We have two big celebrations during our June '15 trip.....I just can't figure out what to do! We will be staying at All Star Music family suite. It will be our 20th anniversary and our DS high school graduation. We just had an amazing trip earlier this year for my 40th and went all out. Even had the mini light up castle cake during a romantic dinner! This trip, more low key because we added my DS best friend and fellow graduate to the trip. Bringing our usual family of 4 budget to 5. So, how to cost effectively order a graduation cake, anniversary cake for 5 while staying at a value resort and only booking all you can eat dinner reservations ( 3 teen boys after all!) Hoping to book O'hana, Crystal Palace, & Tusker House. I can't even figure where to have said cake! Ideas?

You could have a cake delivered to both Ohana's (GF Bakery) and to Crystal Palace through MK (I believe this is the contemporary bakery)! Perhaps stay cost effective by order simpler 6" cakes at both places?

Can you tweek a 6 in cake? And what is the cost? Thanks for the idea!
