Now THAT is some investigating!!!! Mods, can we please add this to the cake picture thread??

It seems like I saw something somewhere that one of the bakeries has mini Mickey head cakes? For some reason I'm thinking it is either Main Street Bakery or somewhere in DTD. Does anyone know anything about these, like where to get them and how much they are?

lurkyloo -- Great info.! Just what I needed to reassure myself.

I just ordered a cake from the Boardwalk Bakery for next Tues. for pick-up for my DH's b-day. I got a 6" cake (only 3 of us) in choc./choc. Because it was a 6" cake I did ask if it was freshly made and she said yes. I hadn't heard of a 6" freshly made cake, only the 8" or larger ones so I started to get scared. But, now after reading this info. I feel great. yum....fresh, chocolate birthday cake :cloud9:

Remind me to check back to the cake thread frequently... been gone a month and had 20 pages to go through. :)

My little princess is dead set on a Peter Pan cake being delivered at CRT. Anyone have any pics of a Peter Pan cake? Does anyone know if I can special order one to be delivered at our dinner at CRT? If not, we're staying at GF; can I order one to the room? Thanks!

Boardwalk Bakery sells these. Not sure if anyone else does, but I don't think so. They're really yummy. One mini-cake is a serving (aka you can't share them with someone else, unless you just want a few bites of cake).

Thanks for all the great cake info!!!!

WOW :worship: lurkyloo thanks for the info

BTW, in case it hasn't been posted yet, when I did a search on "Disney Celebration Cakes" I found this: http://www.foodnetwork.com/food-network-challenge/disney-celebration-cakes/index.html

I'm going to make sure I set my DVR

I just hope the info helps someone (plus, I'm a big nerd and love trying to unravel the little mysteries and mixed messages you get with a company as huge as Disney :rotfl:).

Just a quick question, (I was going to order a custom cake but after reading about problems some seem to have had and the fact I really wanted to get it from YC/BC however our meal there is close to the end of the trip, didn't want to waste the cake) I read previously that the Mickey Head cake is made using dark chocolate. Do they even use that on the vanilla one? None of us like dark chocolate so I don't want to order this if we aren't goint to like it and I will jsut go back too my original plans. Of course I think I am looking more at a cake that I will love!:rolleyes1 I had one ordered last year from BC but than cancelled the order, :sad2:It was going to have the fresh strawberries inside. YUM! I don't seem to hear any one still getting this though it seems there are very limited options. So I need to decide soon and maybe change some ADR's so I can get what I really want and seems the best for that is YC/BC of GF. Stil never found out thouh what other offerings CR have, where I would prefer since we are staying there. TIA!

Without having to sift through the endless pages of cake chatter, has anyone ordered a specialty cake at AKL? And if so what did it look like?

We did the Mickey head shaped cake at WCC a few years ago for DD birthday, but this would be a combo DH b-day/our anniverasry cake and I'm hoping for something different.

Do you have a price range for the cake you want?

I am sure if you call the cake hotline or the GF bakery they can help you with something. The reason I was asking about price range is Pat handles the custom and speciality cakes for the GF. They do get a lot more pricey then the podium cakes :lmao:

I am needing two cakes while we are there. Has anyone tried the cakes that you can purchase at Pop? I am guessing that they would also have these at POR right? I was thinking about doing one custom cake and one premade, but if they are not any good I would do two custom.

I did receive my Plan B cake at Rose & Crown. I believe it was made at the R&C itself.

I was supposed to receive a call from the cake hotline if I wasn't going to get Plan A, but I did not, which was no big deal. However, if you say, you are going to call, then call.

It was there for our 6:40pm ADR and it was very pretty. Plan B cake was Princess Aurora (Sleeping Beauty) on it, but with the standard vanilla custard/vanilla buttercream. There was no other options.

I will have a picture as soon as I upload the images. It was $45 total.

IMHO, totally not worth it. It was good and the chef seemed impressed with it, when she rang up the cake. The desserts that they have probably would have sufficed.

In my particular case, the 15 yr old and the 35 year old both had meltdowns (weren't hungry, whining, etc), so I canceled the ADR and had the cake boxed up and we ate it in the American Ampitheater after Illuminations.

When: May 5, 2009
Where: Rose & Crown, Epcot
How Much: $45

My opinion of the Sara Lee cake we got at the MK (which appeared identical to the vanilla cake they sell at Pop) was that it was a perfectly respectable supermarket cake: The frosting was that kind of thick, sugary buttercream and the cake was spongey and relatively moist.

However, I can get a cake like this at my market for less than $6, while Disney sells them for $21.

Just back from our anniversary trip. Here are the pics of the cake I ordered for our dinner at Narcoossee's. Let me just say it far exceeded my expectations. The pics really don't do it justice. The bakery took it upon themselves to make the gorgeous sugar roses in the middle. You can't see it well in the pics, but they were covered in sparkles. It also tasted fantastic. I was not however prepared for how big it would be. I knew going into it I had to order a 10" to get what I wanted, but it's hard to imagine it until you see it in person. We shared it with friends the next day & had some in the room, but still had 1/2 a cake left. We gave it to bell services when we checked out. Just an FYI if you're ordering a 10" cake & you plan to take the leftovers with you you'll need a full sized refrigerator to store it. Also it was not on my dinner bill. Pat asked me for my credit card when she took the order & said it would be charged the day of. Maybe they've changed their policy & no longer add it to the bill. Too bad because I would have saved 20% with my TIW card. Oh well still worth it!

Here's what I ordered:

Location: Narcoossee's
Date: 5/4/09
10" chocolate cake with amaretto mousse filling & white buttercream - $45
White swags, sugar roses & red mickeys - $30
6 strawberries - $15.00
Total - $90.00

Thank you so much for your help. :)

I do have another question. On the cakes from the Boardwalk Bakery, the 10 inch, it said that it was 45.00 with no special decorations. Do they mean something other than a couple of flowers & Happy Birthday on it, or is this for anything that they do? I don't want to spend 200.00 for two cakes. :scared1:

I've gotten varying answers on that. Someone told us that even just flowers would cost an extra $15. To tell the truth, I'm not sure what's accurate! All I know is that last year, we ordered a 10" cake with a screened edible image of Donald and the Castle on it, and that was $55 pre-tax ($45 for the cake, $10 for the image). This year, we've ordered a 10" cake with a small castle topper and mickey confetti, and I think it's $75 pre-tax. One person said images this year are $8, another said $15. Seems like it all depends on who you talk to. Good luck!

Gee, I wonder what it would look like for the 45.00? Do they even put icing on it?:rotfl2: I may make a run to WalMart! :lmao: It's our 20th wedding anniversary, I have GOT to do something special!

Another question. I would want a white cake with white buttercream icing and some pretty flowers or something sweet & simple. As for the filling, what is the best flavor to get? We like most everything, but I would hate to order something and it taste bad.
