White chocolate is what you will get. The dark/milk chocolate slipper was fazed out after it was determined white looked better (even though the milk chocolate tatsed better)

Well, I only posted what I knew to be true at the time I posted it. Several guests posted right here on the DIS how they were very surpised last Fall when they got the Dark Chocolate slipper at CRT and they even posted picutres of which I saved and can provide. Of course, maybe since this past Fall they could have stopped 'surprising' guests with them. :)

Also, I disagree. I've gotten the white chocolate slipper, white chocolate castle, and the white chocolate Mickey statue and they were both very yummy. :thumbsup2

So I have a question for you cake experts. What tastes better when ordering the cakes, I was tossing up between buttercream (we always get this at our Publix) or the Fundant (which I think looks prettier). Also an recommendations on the filling flavor? As much as I want a magical cake I want it to taste good!

Buttercream will taste better. Fondant is placed over a thin layer of Buttercream and ususally pulled back off the cake before eating. Fondant tatses a little like Marshmallows, usually kids like it, few adults can eat more than a small bite or two.

Forgot to add that the buttercream today 2008/2009 is not the same buttercream that was used prior. Now the Buttercream recipe has to be 0 trans fat. Unfortunately, it has a slight aftertaste that can't be helped due to the rules on 0 trans fats.

We got for something like $35-$40 an 8" white cake with white icing for my dd's bday a couple of weeks ago. Delivered to 1900 Park Fare at the GF. It was beautiful and extremely delicious. It was supposed to be non-dairy due to my dh's lactose problem, but he said he had "some issues" that night, so it may have been regular. This would have been a problem if he had a dairy allergy! However, it was one of the best tasting cakes I've ever had. BUT, no one told me when I ordered it that it is not brought out at the end of your meal. It was brought out while I was up at the buffet, so I didn't even get to see my dd's face when it came out. My brother ran over to get me bc the waitress had my camera and was taking pics of my dd standing next to the cake and he knew I would be upset if I missed the whole thing. The waitress then took the cake away and brought it back at the end of our meal for us to "have your own celebration". I had assumed it was taken away to slice it, but it came back with plates, forks and a knife for us to slice it. So, I don't really understand why it had to be brought out that first time. The waitress told me that they deliver all the cake orders to the tables at once, when they arrive and then are brought back later for "your own celebration". Do the waiters/waitresses need a celebration too? I just think that is a bit ridiculous. They should tell you when you order it. Especially, when you are having it delivered to a buffet restaurant. Luckily my dd is only 6 and wasn't heartbroken that I wasn't there when they first brought it out, but I was.

Your server was misinformed. The server should have discreetly asked you when you would like the cake presented. There is no reason the ckae should have been brought out twice. This was server error.

For those of you who've ordered cakes recently, could you please fill me in on the frosting? Does the buttercream taste like Crisco or is it real buttercream? Is the whipped cream frosting real whipped cream?
Thanks!
Gretchen

The buttercream icing is made with a 0 trans fat shortening now (2008/09) so it does have the aftertaste unfortunately. The whipped cream icing is made with heavy cream.

You cannot call the bakery directly at the Grand Floridian. You must go through the cake line.

I believe the number for the Grand Floridian has been given out several times, actually, because you go through Private Dining. No, it's not the Bakery, but it's the closest thing. That is where the cake line will transfer you, so you may as well cut out the middle man.

Does the butter cream taste bad now, or does it still taste like the icing from Publix or Walmart? :scared:

Okay, so I just got off the phone with Pat from the GF Bakery. I ordered a 10"
vanilla cake with chocolate buttercream filling, covered in marbled chocolate ganache. It will be topped with a white chocolate Mickey, and surrounded with 5 fresh strawberries. I have to admit, she was not very friendly or helpful. When she called me, I apologized for the fact that we had been playing "phone tag" since yesterday, and that I was excited to speak with her. The response I got was a very sarcastic "Yeah, so what can I do for you?" Although I got my cake ordered, it kind of went downhill from there. The only reason I got what I wanted was because I'd done research on the DIS. She was very unhelpful with making suggestions of any kind. I finally had to say "Okay, so I saw a photo of a cake on the DISboards, this is what it looks like, and can I get it?" Her response to that:"You know that's not an official website" DUH!!!! :confused3 told her I was aware of that fact, but is the GF Bakery able to make this cake? We finally got everything ordered to the price of $95 + tax!!
Cake-$45
White Chocolate Mickey-$30
Fresh Strawberries-$2.50 apiece
I understand this is Disney, and that I did order a "custom" cake, but I think it is a bit much. That didn't stop me from ordering it though, so I guess I'm the idiot!!! Anyhow, that's my story from today which is still lacking in Pixie Dust. I just want DD to have a special cake, and a magical trip. Pat didn't seem to care. Thank you for letting me rant!:grouphug:

The white chocolate Mickey does not taste good. You do know this correct? It will be a waxy taste. $2.50 per strawberry is ludicrous, but standard price and since folks are willing to pay that, they will charge that.

I was playing "Phone tag" with Pat for only 1 day. I also agree that there are many, many people ordering cakes and that she is very busy. I simply couldn't answer the phone when she called. I am a CT Tech at a hospital here in Norfolk. I was in the middle of 4 Trauma patients, and a stroke patient at the same time. I don't think any of my patients would've appreciated my taking a personal phone call to order a cake. She must understand that you WILL have to return people's phone calls. From what I understand, she is fairly new at her job. Maybe she needs an inservice on simple customer service!!! Once again, thank you for letting me rant!:flower3:

Pat has been with the Grand Floridian for quite a while. She has taken over the cake line recently in addition to the other job she has at the GF

They wouldn't hold our cake for us. My DH actually ran it back to the resort and came back to the park to meet us. It took him 3 hrs.

I have read before though that people have left it there and picked it up later. I guess it's all in who you ask. Next time I will give ours away to fellow diners.

They will not hold the cake for you. Health regulations do not allow this.

i quess a lot depends on whether you want a standard cake that will do for the celebration or if you want a truly special one.:cake:

i don't do this often........so i am going to go for a special one the next trip and hope that i can find the right place at disney to order it.;)

the food network recently had a cake competition and the participants were award winning cake chefs. one was a young woman who was from disney pixar cakes in orlando. where is that? :confused3 she was very good! the cakes she did were very creative and different. has anyone heard of disney pixar cakes?

Just back from our anniversary trip. Here are the pics of the cake I ordered for our dinner at Narcoossee's. Let me just say it far exceeded my expectations. The pics really don't do it justice. The bakery took it upon themselves to make the gorgeous sugar roses in the middle. You can't see it well in the pics, but they were covered in sparkles. It also tasted fantastic. I was not however prepared for how big it would be. I knew going into it I had to order a 10" to get what I wanted, but it's hard to imagine it until you see it in person. We shared it with friends the next day & had some in the room, but still had 1/2 a cake left. We gave it to bell services when we checked out. Just an FYI if you're ordering a 10" cake & you plan to take the leftovers with you you'll need a full sized refrigerator to store it. Also it was not on my dinner bill. Pat asked me for my credit card when she took the order & said it would be charged the day of. Maybe they've changed their policy & no longer add it to the bill. Too bad because I would have saved 20% with my TIW card. Oh well still worth it!

The sugar roses in the middle of your cake are pre made in China. They are placed in the center of the cake after the Buttercream has been applied.

I know you were kidding w/ the Walmart comment, but if you'll have a car & don't mind going to pick a cake up, I recommend Publix. http://publix.com/food/catalog/Bakery/Home.do We get all our cakes there. They're delicious! I don't know about the ones in Orlando, but our Publix allows us to make special requests w/ no additional charge. For example, we like filling, so I always ask them to double it. They'll also allow you to substitute. Another example, with the decadent desserts, if you want bavarian cream filling in a cake they have chocolate whipped filling in they'll do that. Again, this is my local Publix, but I don't see why others wouldn't also.

The PUBLIX's here around WDW will do special requests for you also. At a much cheaper price.

I am simply stating that white chocolate is actually NOT chocolate at all and will have a waxy after taste.
If you liked the taste, then that is great however, most people that try them will agree the taste is not very good.

Thanks! I actually posted as I read each question. Didn't think to condense I guess at 7:30 in the morning!

I am NOT trying to debate you on the information I am posting here. I only post what I am absolutely sure of and nothing more.

Never said you were 'dabating' me but you are the one who started this by quoting me and telling me I was wrong. I'm always going to defend my posts OR apologize if I am incorrect. I happened to have found a post of someone who got a Pooh cake at Crystal Palace. I'm sorry if that bothers you. :confused3

You are correct. It's a matter of opinion. You think it tastes gross and I think it taste just fine. :)

Nothing wrong with both of us giving those considering buying anything white chocolate at Disney both our opinions. :thumbsup2

**Oh, and what I did above was mulit-quote. You should try it some time. :thumbsup2
