Official Avengers Super Hero Half Marathon Weekend 2014 Thread!

10k may or may not come, but they'd have to add a 10k to match wine & dine weekend too, to make it even. west coast now has more half marathons than east coast does, so they have to level out the playing field on their side first.

i like the same medal nonsense but i also of course like the new medals that all the other races do. there are pros & cons to both. :)

Why would it be necessary to add a 10K to the Wine & Dine Weekend?
Why does the number of races need to be equal at both properties?

Are you going to lobby the company to build another 18 resorts in Anaheim because that would make it equal? Oh and ask for two more gates, too, please. ;)

Does anyone know who still has 5k and/or pasta in the park party tickets still? I have a friend now joining me for the weekend. I found her a bib through one of the runDisney travel agents, which was the most important one to find, but if anyone has any insight about where to find the others I would really appreciate it!

Has anyone stayed at the Camelot Inn or the Castle Inn & Suites? Just looking for a good hotel in walking distance from the main start of the race. Might try the HoJo too.

I just did my proof of time event here over the weekend. Local flat 10km done in 64 minutes.

That should probably help with not starting at the back :)

Yay you!! I did the same a few weeks ago! But I was slower at 68 minutes!

But not the last corral!!

I have not stayed at Camelot or Castle Inn. I believe Castle Inn is either doing or just finished a remodel of their rooms though. So maybe if you book there ask for one of the refurbished rooms just in case they were not all upgraded! I'll be at the Hojo for Avengers and stayed there for Tink in 2012 as well. If you book Hojos call and ask about their runners discount.

All 3 of the properties you mentioned are walking distance for the race start/finish.

I stayed at the Castle Inn for the Inaugural Disneyland Half in 2006. We had a nice stay there. They do not offer a lot of extras, but the room was nice. I would equate to a Best Western. Not a bad walk to the start line and back.

Gah I'm jealous of you lot with your 64 and 68 10ks. If I'm lucky and the weather holds I might break into the sub 75 10k for the first time this weekend. But I also have to decide if a) I want to make the drive and b) is the weather going to be decent enough?

I am currently in the right under 3:00 hour corral so I would like to move up. But I am certainly not going to run a 10k in bad weather or do a three hour round trip for a 10k if its too hot. If I'm going to move up I'm going to do it right.

No one was more surprised than me with that time! It was my first race and I really surprised myself.

Had exceedingly sore quads for the next 3 days too!

Good luck to you if you do decide to go ahead this weekend though!

You've done so many races, I'm very impressed and just a bit jealous :)

So I think my time was 1:17 (maybe 1:16 if I'm lucky I have no clue the timer sign was turned off by the time I hit the finish) for the 10k. A new PR, a good time, but not the one I was aiming for.

My main problem was this was a trail race and the entire last mile was on dirt where as everything before that was pretty much paved. And so my final mile time went out the window (I do not have good coordination so if ain't compact I have to be a bit more careful about how I step). To top it off someone got the brilliant idea to put the finishing chute on grass. GRASS. So I couldn't even sprint the last yards if the race like I wanted.

Admittedly it didn't help that I ran into a physical issues between miles 3 and 4 where I had to drop pace slightly. But up until mile 5 I was on track to make 1:15. Even if it would have probably been by the skin of my teeth.

On the bright side I did accomplish running a full 10k distance and in a race! Even if qualifying for the 2:45 corral for Disney races continues to elude me.

ETA: And I think I had every runners worst nightmare just happen when it comes to running qualifying races. Guess whose missing from the race results page?

Sent them an email. And pray to god that they take the word expedite and urgent seriously. Because the sooner I have it showing the sooner I can submit the time to Disney.

ETA 2: And they got back fast. Real fast. Got my time (1:17:39), submitted it. And I now have a finish time of 2:51. Still a little slower then what I'm even projecting for September. But hey I'll take it!

Hooray StarGirl. At least they got you your official result, that's the important thing.

I've heard trail races tend to be a lot slower than road too, so that probably didn't help your qualifying time. Did the weather end up treating you ok?

I'm doing the Cypress 10k this Saturday for my proof of time, I was just going to start in the last corral but then found this race online, nothing like waiting for the last minute.

I'm hoping to break an hour but that might be optimistic since my 10k training runs have averaged about 63-66 minutes.

Like you guys I'm just excited I won't have to start in the last corral!

Now to just wait and see how the corrals shake out .... Another unknown.

Depending on your fitness and how exited you are by the race... maybe not.

My 10k training runs were about 75 minutes going in to my race...

I say aim for 59! :)

Has anyone stayed at the Holiday Inn on Walnut recently? I remember reading good things about it on this thread a while back and I booked it today but then went on TripAdvisor and there is a string of bad recent reviews.

It's apparently very close to DL which is really the most important thing to me, but I've never been to DL so I have no frame of reference and no idea what "close" really means. I'm only staying two nights so it's not the end of the world if it's not an amazing hotel but I just want to know what to expect. Would love to hear from anyone who has stayed there, especially if it was fairly recently. Thanks :)

57:43 :cool1: and I still felt fresh at the finish even though the last mile was my fastest, I think I was to conservative.

Just checked out this morning, I've stayed there 7 times in the past year and am staying there again for both the Avengers and Star Wars races because it's so convenient to the start. I keep going back to this hotel based on familiarity, location, comfortable beds, reasonable price, and it's quiet but would say the rooms are in need of a rehab. I've never had any major issues but all of the rooms I've had are in need of new carpet, the bathrooms are showing their age, and overall they just need some TLC. Nothing nasty in my experience but lots of little things that really should be taken care of.

I haven't seen anything that would keep me from going back but I'm pretty easy going when it comes to hotels. If it's kept clean and comfortable I can overlook all the cosmetic defects.

Woo-hoo! Way to go. Probably better to be a touch conservative on your first event, more fun than going out to hard and limping home, and now you have a time to try and beat.

Went out this weekend for a 10k run for DH. 1:16 for his first ever event. Pretty good for a non-runner, and which still gets us out of the last corral which was totally the goal. Sadly, I totally should not have been running, what with the head cold and the cough, and am kind of paying for it now.

Probably worth it though.

We have our flights booked and hotel! Need to order tickets and kinda still hoping to upgrade our hotel at somepoint. I've got my super hero themed running playlist and my costume. What am I forgetting? Oh yeah! Training!

So many races, so little time (or is it money).
