Official Avengers Super Hero Half Marathon Weekend 2014 Thread!

I don't have issues with cotton. But I don't swear like crazy either so it might make a difference.

:rotfl: I read this and went back to read the context and for the life of me could not figure out why swearing a lot would have anything to do with not liking cotton. Then I realized it was not swearing it was SWEATING :rotfl2:

Sorry..just had to share. Super tired and my confusion made me laugh at myself.

I personally won't wear anything cotton on me while running. Been there done that, have the chafing scars! (back when I was in college and knew of nothing BUT cotton)

I don't have issues with cotton. But I don't swear like crazy either so it might make a difference.

I wore a plain cotton t shirt for the Princess Half and the entire shirt got soaked in sweat and changed colors from dark pink to magenta!

All the sweat made the shirt weigh me down a tad but with all that said, I can't stand tech tees!

Thanks everyone! I think I'll buy the shirt and try some longer training runs in it and see how it works. Maybe I can make it into a Tank.

If anyone knows of any charities/travel agencies with availability for the 5K, please post up. I really wish i had taken the chance and registered and now I would love to do it!

With the no ability to transfer bibs this is my only route correct?

Sorry I didn't see this sooner! I have been buried alive in finals! As of last week Jim Stone at Acclaim Travel had bibs for the half and 5k. The 5k through him costs $175 and includes a 1 day/1 park ticket. His email is runwiththemouse@aol.com or you can click on his link through the runDisney site. Hopefully he still has them available!

Does anyone know where to find "in training" fb cover photos? It can be official or fanmade. I want to know if anything is already out there before making my own.

I didn't see any, feel free to share if you make some!

Hows everyone doing? Have you started training yet or are you waiting and following the Galloway training plan? Anyone working on their costumes yet?

I guess I'm training already. I PR'd at my Half on Sunday, it was my first Half since Tink. I have another half at the end of June but thats it until Avengers. So I'll probably drop the mileage on my long runs during July and August and then start picking it back up in September.

Not really working on my costume yet but I have been thinking about it. Im hoping to be down a size btwn now and then so not ready to buy anything just yet.

Hope everyone is doing good!

I'm waiting and following the Galloway plan. This way it works out that 14-miler ends up the same day as a local Half, so I figure sign up and run with company and aid stations!

I've decided on Pixie from X-men/Avengers comics as my costume. I need to find a yellow singlet and I found some pink clip-in hair extensions on the clearance wall at Hobby Lobby. I already have a black shirt to wear under the singlet, and hopefully I'll be in the market for new black capris anyway as I'm trying to slim down some as well. I've got yellow calf sleeves and am debating arm sleeves. I'll also need to buy some wings! I will be adding a non-canon Sparkle Athletic skirt because I don't run without covering my backside up with a skirt! LOL

Congrats on your PR!!!!

I bought my airline tickets this morning! Southwest has dates for the rest of the year available on their site now. All that's left is to train and plan! :)

Congrats on the PR!!! So the ankle/foot is all better now? :goodvibes

No training here yet; tore the fascia in my foot couple of months back so no running. Hoping the next week or 2 I'll get back out there and upping mileage again. I will be doing RnR SD next weekend, though. :rotfl2: They have a really generous time limit and it's San Diego, so I kinda have to go down there.

I'm not sure about a 1/2 costume. At the very least, I'll get a white tech tee and order an iron-on from etsy. I found this one shop that has really cute ones in the Mickey head form. For the 5k, I have my LSU outfit and my tutu should be in the mail at home waiting for me today. Not themed right, but it's gameday so I have to stick to my tradition.

Nice plan! Its always more fun to run a race than just a long run!
This year is already flying by so November will be here before we know it!

Oh no Kim! I hope you heal up fast! That sounds horribly painful. I hope you still have fun in SD anyway. And yes my ankle is finally pain free! Took about 6 months but happy to be over that now.

So have you had good luck with iron-ons and tech tee's? I've never done it and was worried Id just end up melting the shirt.

The weather is already heating up here. Lucky for me my mom got a new treadmill that she keeps in her house. (I keep mine in the garage.) I think I'll be doing quite a few training runs at her house this summer!

Be very careful if doing an iron on on a tech shirt. They can scorch and melt very easily.

I apologize in advance. I will post this to various threads I am sub'd to. So if you see this more than once... :flower3:

Anyway, who doesn't love a deal? So while it does not work for me I thought it might for some. There is a seriously deal on a couple of the brooks pure line here

The two shoes (flow and cadence) are both from the "2" line. The pure flows are just $39.95. Shipping I think is free. The Cadence is just $10 more. I did wear the 1's and now the 3's (2's didn't work - gave me blisters) Makes me wonder though if for $40 I shouldn't try to make them work.

Hope it works for someone. :goodvibes

I haven't had problems w/ the iron-ons. I ordered one from etsy and she mailed me the iron-on and it worked out great. The other one I ordered, I printed out and the color is a tad off in places, but I think that's more to the quality of the paper I got. I've also made sure to put a little thicker towel over the decal and haven't had problems w/ the material being tech.

I hear you about the weather. I have a feeling it's going to be a very warm summer. No treadmill for me except at the gym and it can get humid there, but that might be a good thing training for WDW races.

Thank you for this. I am kind of glad I waited as I think I am going to hold out and register the Star Wars race in January 2015 instead.

Sooo... it's about time to register for my proof of time event here. Of local, certified 10k races I have two choices. The first is on the 13th of July, is right near where I live, but has a strict 80 minute cut off limit which seems intimidating. I think I'll probably be able to manage that, but it might be a bit rough.

The second is on the 27th of July, is a family friendly event so should be fine time wise, but that seems to be getting awfully close to the Aug 1st cut off date. How long does it usually take a decent sized race to get results on line and for Active to verify a time?

Hmmm, you inspired me to go find the forum thread about last years (though I could only find the marathon, not the other events) and yes, results were up in about 24 hours.

As long as we submit before Aug 1 should that work out for Active?

So after preordering the pins for the Star Wars half I was reminded that I didn't order them for Avengers. Just went back to order them and they're no longer available. Boo! Heres hoping I can get them at the Expo!

I have been debating whether or not to buy the Star Wars ones or not. I hate pre-ordering since I don't get my AP discount, but then I run the risk of a sellout. Decisions. Decisions.

Exactly the same thought process here! I think the Star Wars Expo will be crazier than Avengers. And since I can't get there til Friday afternoon I think pre-ordering for SW is a good idea. With Avengers I'm still hoping I can get pins at the Expo Friday afternoon and use my discount.

This is my first half... The most I've ever done is the Expedition Everest 5k.... I'm running my placement 10k this Saturday, but haven't been able to run the whole thing without walking yet... but I am under the 16 minute cap, but just barely! I'm going to the chiropractor tomorrow to see about relieving a pinched nerve... Getting excited but also very nervous!
