why are the people so judgemental...................is it because you did not like scott from the get go and now have this to fall back on .........

i don't know the man, only know what i read just the same as all of those reading this thread.

people pay for their mistakes. period. then they go on with their lives.

you can't change your past.......ever.
you can change yourself and have a better future.


i think this man is trying to straighten his life out. he has worked dead end jobs, supports his kid, and has not had any other trouble from the law since the disorderly conduct charge. looks to me he is trying.

please, no flames..........you have voiced your opinion and i have stated mine.

I wish he would leave. Its a horrible thing to do, and should never even think about being an example to my children!

If Scott had class, he would bow out gracefully.. leaving Jess to come back!

I'm not judging him as a person. I can respect him if he owns up to his mistake and turns his life around for the better.

What I cannot stand for is allowing someone who has done something like this to be put on a pedestal and promoted as an "idol" for young people.

If he can make it as a successful singer on his own - more power to him. I just don't think he deserves to remain in this competition - and I would say that about anyone if they were convicted of violence.

Depending on next week's performances, I think I see Scott or Anthony going next (much as I hate to think it).

See, the problem with Anthony going is that he has a horde of little 'tweens' who think he is the cutest thing on TV and will vote for him no matter what he does. Kind of like that poor kid last year with the red hair that should have been gone a few weeks before he actually left (was it John Stevens?). Anthony sings, and all over the teenie bopper chat rooms and messages boards, there is probably the same statement:

"OMG! Anthony was SOOOOOO kyoot! I <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3<3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3<3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3<3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3<3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 him SOOOO much! Don't 4get 2 vote 4 him! "

That will keep him around a while. At least he is a better singer than John Stevens, so there is hope for him!

I agree. I don't have any issues with Scott improving his life and moving on, but I don't think a contest entitled "American Idol" is the place to do so. If this was no big deal, why not talk about it at the audiition?

If he had any class, he would never have done such a thing in the first place. Personally, I put men who abuse women only slightly above people that abuse children and a few levels below pond scum on the scale of things.

Just to clarify, it was season 2 that was full of drama. Frenchie Davis was eliminated after Hollywood because it was found out that she was in a risque magazine. Corey Clark made it on to the top 10 but was told to leave the show after it was found out that he was facing charges of domestic abuse against his little sister. He claimed he was innocent, but he still left the show. Trenyce was discovered to have shoplifted (I think) and get cited for it, but she was not asked to leave the show because I guess it was seen as a more "minor" incident.

We're judgemental because anyone who commits domestic violence is a terrible person. Period. There's no excuse for picking on someone smaller than you (and considering Scott's size, I'm sure the woman was smaller than him.)

My question is why did we not hear people saying this last year when an unwed Mother won AI? It seems to me that following the 'you must be perfect to be an American Idol' logic, someone who had a child out of wedlock doesn't really fit that bill either.

People actually were opposed to Fantasia being an unwed mother. There was a lot of controversy over that one as well. I forgot to list that with my AI drama of the past.

I'll preface this by saying I don't really like Scott all that much so I'm not "pushing" for my favorite to stay. In fact, if he left this week, I wouldn't be sad. But this is what thesmokinggun.com had:

Savol eventually took a plea to a reduced misdemeanor disorderly conduct rap and was fined $500, placed on a year's probation, ordered to complete a domestic violence or anger management program, and sentenced to a suspended 20-day jail term.

Domestic violence is never excusable, but I think it's a stretch to say we are sending a bad message to our children by "idolizing" someone with a conviction in their past. Don't make me list the number of celebrities and politicians with checkered pasts. What about the message give people another chance at life? Is he destined to work at the local carwash for the rest of his life because of a mistake when he was young? No fame, fortune or opportunity for you, you went to jail once!

We all do stupid things because of emotion, drugs or alcohol. When I told my ex I was leaving the marriage, he did the same thing to me that Scott did to his gf (grabbed my rings, called me names). Is my ex a bad person? Absolutely not, this was the only time he ever treated me badly. But add alcohol with emotion and things get tricky. God forbid my past or anyone else's hold us accountable for the rest of our lives. I for one already know I'm not going into politics.

On another note, anyone else think this was released on cue? I will not believe that someone just found this out about him...I think thesmokinggun knew for weeks and waited til just now to release it. Who cared about ol' Scott a month ago?

But Top 10, yeah, that's newsworthy!

It is not a felony to have a child out of wedlock. Also, if Fantasia threw a phone at her child and was arrested, there probably would have been a bit more outrage. Domestic violence is horrid.

Really ? So, they passed a law making it illegal to have a child without being married ?

HUGE difference, and I can't believe you can't see that.

no argument...just wanted to state my opinion. Physically abusing the mother of your child is not even the same as having a child "out of wedlock", definitely controversial but the two can't and shouldn't be compared IMO. I for one, am not religious so I could care less when people have kids, whether they're married when they do so, whether they planned it or not, doesn't affect me in the least. I don't know if she planned the pregnancy at such a young age but she handled it well, took care of her responsibility like an adult. I can understand some people seeing that as offensive (child out of wedlock) but it is much more common these days than say...being physically abusive to your girlfriend/baby's mother. To compare it to a grown man physically harming the woman who gave birth to his child? I don't think so. No the contestants don't have to be infallible BUT where do you draw the line? Just my 2 cents since we're all entitled to it.

Regarding Ruben and Fantasia radio air time...I live in New York and they are both played pretty regularly on our R&B stations, that is their genre so that is where they will be played. I've also heard both played quite often on the music choice R&B channels on my cable system. I don't listen to Clay or Kelly so I don't know if they're getting airtime or not so I can't comment on that.
