Geesh a little on the angry side. I'm sorry but have you ever been through something like this. I know at my high school there was always the kid who unfortunaley died. I also know that those following days were tough on everyone, even the people who they weren't friends with. Think about if one of your co workers were to die, could you seriously go to work the next day and not be affected at all. Put yourself in her place she went through this and then had to go infront of 30 million people and sing.
It's not always the case for highschoolers, though....unfortunately...I remember one year at my highschool like 3 or 4 kids died...a suicide, car wreck, and couple drug-related deaths. Even some kids were unrespectful while the announcement was made...others just moved on. I live in a relatively small town, but even considering that, our school is quite large. It all depends on the situation.
Usually, if anyone feels upset at a death within their highschool, it's because they've finally realized they're not immortal...something could happen to them or their friends. Of course, some are still oblivious.
I cared about the losses of the students at my highschool...my heart ached for their friends and family, since I could relate (I lost my brother when he was 18 and in high school). Still, by the end of the day, it was in the back of my mind...I didn't know them...I couldn't even picture their faces...it wasn't that I wasn't sad. For Mikayla....if she personally knew the students, then okay...possibly...but you need to be able to put on an act...performers need to put on that facade in order to make a great performance. Do you think some of the top performers are extremely happy-go-lucky EVERY time they perform? Odds are, no...some may be tired...upset...p/oed at someone...but they don't show it. If something bad happens, and she's on tour...how many people will demand a refund if she doesn't perform well at all..."as a result of the unfortunate event"?
I dislike sympathy votes as well. One was Scott of this year's Top 12. He has talent, but no personality, and no real 'performance'...just a good voice. He gets his share of sympathy votes because of his lack of support from family...admit it, I've heard many people who said they voted *mainly* due to this fact. I wish he could prove his dad wrong, but it's not fair to those who have the "whole package" to be ripped-off just to allow someone to make a point.
He wasn't the only one though...Jessica from Road to Stardom. Maybe I'm a bit bias, rooting for Matt, but I did not appreciate Jessica's sob-stories in order to pursuade Missy Elliot to pick her as the winner. A performer needs to have a good voice, good performing skills, a passion for their work, and a big personality. I consider using sob-stories to be rather low...but then again, maybe I just like the more optimistic personalities better...?
