Official 2017 Tinker Bell Half Marathon Weekend!

Since everyone on the running thread is talking about what fuel they carry. Can I ask Tink-half vets what they like to physically carry during the half marathon? I've been a bare bones person, but the longest I've ever ran a race was just over 90 minutes. So adding an hour or more is uncharted territory for me.

I don't think I'd like those belts with all the little bottles, but I've been intrigued by spibelts. I have one of those large arm bands with a zipper pouch so I have room for some fuel and room key, cash, etc in there. Phone will slip in and out easily for race pics. But wondering if water stops are sufficient to leave any bottles at home.
Advise from Tink Half or other Rundisney half vets?
Is my phone case/pouch and myself enough?

From having done the Tink half in 2016 and the SWLS half earlier this year, I don't think there is any need for you to carry water. There are water stations at every mileage marker. I did not carry water and never felt like I needed it before it was available (although I power walk the races; I don't run them). What you are talking about carrying is exactly what I have carried for my two races, with the addition of sunglasses (which I wore on my hat for Tink until I needed them and carried in a small pouch for SWLS because my Leia buns didn't accommodate a hat). I carried room key, credit card, phone, chapstick, energy bar. For Tink, I put everything in the pockets of my running tights. For SWLS, I carried everything in a small pouch because my costume didn't have any pockets.

Sunglasses! Right!! Forgot about those.

Oh no, you stole a Fairy Friday question! ;)

Here's the info on water stops from the event guide (from 2016, anyway...I would imagine it will be similar for 2017):
"Eight beverage stations will be set up along the course, offering DASANI® water and POWERADE®, and drinking fountains will be available throughout both Theme Parks. There will be one nutrition stop near mile 8.5 where CLIF SHOT® Energy Gel will be distributed. Water and refreshments will be available for participants at the Finish Line."

So I agree that there's likely no need for you to carry water - I don't at Disney races.

For Princess weekend, I had my phone in one skirt pocket and my fuel (Honey Stinger wafflers) in the other. I did have a Spibelt for a couple of other things - a small packet of Kleenex, an extra hair tie and a grocery bag for all of the crap they give you at the finish area (water, Powerade, banana, snackbox) - I THINK we get cinch bags at Tink (we did at Princess) but I'm not totally sure about that. I like the Spibelt a lot - it took me a few weeks to figure out that I had it too loose and it was bouncing a lot. Now that I have it adjusted properly, it's great. Not sure I'd put my phone in it though, I think it would bounce too much since the phone is heavier?

It may just be that you are too early in your training to actually answer this question, though - you still need to get to where your long runs are long enough that you try out fueling and figure out what works. Maybe you will end up wanting to bring a water bottle (I know lots of people use Tailwind here and I think that would require your own bottle, for example). And once you do find what works, you'll want to mimic that during the race.

If you're looking to order a Spibelt, let me know - some of the INB Ambassadors are also Spibelt Ambassadors so I may be able to find a discount code. Spibelt will be at the Tink expo but you'll want to try it out on runs before the race.

Also, the Powerade at Disney races is normally the green (lime?) variety and is pretty watered-down compared to normal Powerade...they make it from a powder mix. :crazy2:

I always run in Sparkle Skirts (the ones at sparkleskirts.com), which have awesome pockets. Between the two thigh pockets in the shorts underneath and the zipper waist pocket, I carry my phone, extra headphones, Honey Stinger Energy Chews, keys, sunglasses, ID and cash, glasses wipes, gum... I think that's it.

Like others have said, it will be different for everyone. I've run Princess half twice, and this second time I did take a small handheld bottle (about 12 oz I think) with Gatorade in it. I am picky and not a fan of most Powerade flavors, which I knew is what they have on course. The water stations are frequent (for me), so I could just rely on those for water. I will plan to do the same for Tink.

LOVE me some Honey Stinger waffles!

Doh! Oops! Sorry for stealing the question!! Maybe this can be a Winged Wednesday? (That just doesn't sound as good as Fairy Friday, let's be honest)

I had an unfortunate event during a race with lime gatorade/powerade once :crazy2::crazy2::crazy2:

Hmmm. I ordered a Sparkle Skirt as part of my Leia costume for SWLS, but there were no shorts with pockets underneath. Do you have to ask for shorts when you order your skirt? I definitely missed having pockets!

Maybe you got a Sparkle Athletic skirt. I have a ton of those. And they have no shorts.

Ha, that's ok! I'll use it anyway, unless I think of something better. :)

So I guess you need to figure out if you're good doing the half with just water, because like I said, I'm pretty sure it's ALWAYS the green flavor (which I hate but take anyway).

www.sparkleskirts.com is what @The Expert was referring to. :)

Wow they WERE coming fast and furious! I check work email for a little bit and BAM, I've left you all hanging! Thanks @Ariel484 for jumping in with the answer. Yes, my skirts are from sparkleskirts.com and I LOVE them!

Looking forward to another Fairy Friday topic.

Confession here.....we're on vacation right now and I have not put any miles in. Feeling a bit guilty:guilty:, but I'll be back at it in a couple of days. Meanwhile I'm loving the warm weather.

Eh, vacation is vacation. Enjoy it!

Other thoughts on the water stops...

- 5K'ers and 10K'ers - the water stops have WATER ONLY. There is no Powerade on the 5K and 10K courses
- During the half (at least this is how it was for Princess, so I assume it'll be the same for Tink) - there was Powerade first, and then water. Powerade was in blue cups, water was in white cups

Yes, this is how it was for Tink in 2016 and SWLS earlier this year.

If you're a fan of going the DIY route, I made some pockets to add to my leggings. I don't like running with anything around my waist, and I didn't want my phone stuck in my Roo Sport. I just took some old leggings I didn't wear anymore, sewed 3 sides, and then used stitch witchery to glue it to my running leggings. Worked like a charm for Princess and I was able to put it exactly where it worked for me.
