Official 2016 Star Wars Half Marthon - The Dark Side Weekend

I did get an email last week but I thought it was just a waiver to sign and bring with us. Just after we signed up I took a job at a local hospital working crazy hours.
I am sure our packets will have detailed instructions. Disney is great at organizing large numbers of people :-)
Thanks and I hope everyone has a great run

I wouldn't count on there being a paper copy of the Event Guide in your packet. They sometimes provide them, but not always. As @DOOM1001 said, you need to read the Event Guide online and the runDisney web site to get the details on parking, transportation, etc.

Has anyone without and AP or Memory Maker package tried to link their bibs to their MDE account for race photos? I tied to add them on Mydisneyphotopass by using the option to "add a photo pass card" as it seems to follow the numbering format below. "Link a ticket or pass" does not work as it is in the wrong format and won't save/link. The issue is I don't see that it saves or links them to my account when adding a card. My guess is that this something that is done after the photos are taken? Thanks in advance to any advice!

I tried, and it just continues to spin as it attempts to search for the link. I think the links won't work until after the pictures are taken.

Group Italian Dinner for Folks going Solo

Just checking is with all the folks above (@Z-Knight, @HockeyMomNH, @CynthiaC925) to make sure we still have six people for early dinner on Saturday (4/16) at 4:00pm at Portobello Country Italian Trattoria (Disney Springs). I will be there as will Dan K, so that's two. @HockeyMomNH, if you are planning on coming, will your daughter still be joining us?

Please like this post to let me know you will still be joining, and I will send you a PM with my name so you know what reservation to ask for. If anybody else wants to join, let me know as I should be able to increase the reservation size if needed.

It's getting real close people...

My daughter heard from a friend of hers that moved to FL last summer. She is hoping to come and do Dapper Day with us. She hasn't confirmed yet, so I am waiting to hear. I will let you know asap. I will be there either way, just not sure about my daughter. If her friend ends up at MK for the day she will be buying a one day ticket so they re going to want to get in as much time as possible.

Trying to finish up the Asajj costume for the only race I'm running, the 10K. It's been trial and error on the tabard, but I finally got a result I liked last night. Left it to sit overnight, and now just have to figure out how to attach it to my belt. But it's getting there.

Fighting allergies and colds has been the worst thing, though. It's really cut into our "long run" schedule, and we've been miserable. We're counting on the fact that we're pretty darned active and can walk with no difficulties - so that's the back-up plan if running fails us.

I am so with you!! My allergies are HORRIBLE this time of year (though I have some version all year long). Add long runs somehow running INTO the wind the whole time, and with exercise asthma I get pretty cranky!! But as my sister says: finishing IS winning! :) We know that if we HAD TO, we could walk at a fast enough pace to finish. We've always managed at worst a run/walk, so fingers crossed... :)

What is everyone thinking for characters?
I don't know what to think and it's driving me crazy! I don't normally care who's out or not at Disney races, but I'm a SW geek, sooooo.... yeah. ;) I'm a little concerned that it may only be new characters and no classics. And I'd sure love some intel on where the 501st might be stationed...

Took another look at the course... The finish looks like it's in an overflow parking field (unless it's been paved recently). Anyone had a finish there before? Does it turn into a swamp in the rain?
No races have ended there before, so we won't really know until we get there! In general, any grassy areas in FL are likely to be a mess in rain, but that area is so packed down from vehicle traffic, I wouldn't expect it to get bad unless we're talking monsoon conditions.

And's what's the timing like getting back to your rooms after the race?
Total crapshoot: I've had a resort bus sitting there, ready to go when I got to it, and I've seen an hour-long line for another resort's bus stop. In theory, it shouldn't be more than maybe 30 mins, but you never know.

Can someone please explain the parking/transportation situation for the Half? My first runDisney event was the Princess 10k this year and it was pretty easy since start and finish were in the same area, but with this Half the program says there will be no parking at WWoS but they don't mention how you are supposed to get back to your car at Epcot after the race. Or maybe I'm just overlooking it?
They made an error in the race guide and reversed the verbiage: buses will take folks who drove back to EP from WWOS after the race. This is just a reverse of past W&D's, in which we parked at EP and were bused to the start at WWOS.

I was a little concerned it would only be new characters, too. But the "main logo" for the weekend (based on the merchandise preview) features Vader's silhouette. So I think we may still see some classics out there. :) *fingers crossed*

I'm the first one telling people checking the weather early is pointless but of course out of curiosity I checked it,Saturday and Sunday both sunny,Saturday high of 77,low of 64,pretty decent, but Sunday that high goes up to 90!!!Like I said its still super early and the high that day could be anywhere from 75-90,but if it were to get anywhere close to 90 the 5am start and starting in the earlier corrals would be a big deal to those coming from colder climates. For me living in south Florida I could deal with most anything heat wise, the only exception is if it were a full at 90 or higher, that would probably be bad.

Not to worry... at Star Wars Half in Disneyland, there were plenty of classics. There were a ton of Reys (easy and light, so not surprising). As far as I could tell, I was the only Fin at the 10k (and I never saw one at the half either). Seriously. I think I was the only one all weekend.

LOTS of R2D2, C3PO, Leia, a couple guys as Imperial Guards, one awesome couple as Han and slave Leia, one couple were light sabers (pool noodles sticking our of their heads. hilarious), and all manner of creative stuff.

The 501st were in the historic downtown Anaheim section, with a lot of other folks with REALLY great outfits. Since this is all in Disney property, I'm not sure where they will want them. Do expect some First Order troopers around the parks, though, just pointing and giving orders. It'll be great!

Because I'm a nerd, I find it interesting that Corral K is actually the largest corral and not L

View attachment 157902

Sorry to ruin your chart but apparently there is an L for the Challenge...our numbers were higher than K so I called and they said the chart online was wrong but it will be fixed.

Since they have updated the Challenge corral table to now include Corral L, I have created a similar chart to @Dis_Yoda:

Dark Side Half Corrals.png

Almost one third of the entire field is in the last two corrals. That bottleneck is going to be ridiculous.
That was my first thought as well. Does anyone have a sense of how such tables USUALLY look for rD races?? Is this actually any different?

I'm more concerned about upcoming races like W&D since they changed the PoT requirement to being needed for estimated times below 2:45 vs. 3:15... :(

I will be really curious to see how things play out from the Boardwalk all the way to DHS. That sidewalk it just not that wide to accommodate all those people at one time. I'm in D and plan on getting as far to the front as I can prior to starting. The more people behind me the better.

Hello fellow geek :) I really don't usually stop for photos at all on race or in the parks - I only do it for really big characters that I love (Captain Jack, anything Aladdin) and now SW. I just want someone to tell me when and where BB-8 will be so I can get my photo with my Rey costume! I will be crushed if I - the girl who never wears a costume - wears it for the 10k, and then he shows up only at the half!

Also, I do think it will be most, if not all, the classic characters. Just based on the logos and merch previews, I haven't seen any new characters! Which is a shame because of my giant crush on Kylo Ren. lol.

I think the characters will be a mix of old and new - Stormtroopers, Vadar, Kylo Ren, Boba Fett, Seventh Sister, Greedo, Jawas

What you probably won't see a lot of will be the non-dark side characters. The only "Dark Side" that were at the "Light Side" Half were Boba Fett and Storm Troopers.

Also with the addition of the L Dark Side CHallenge Bibs - suddenly I'm super glad I'm in I. There will be a huge bottle neck going through that Boardwalk to Hollywood Studios area.

The sidewalk along the lake is going to be the only point of concern, the actual Boardwalk area on the Boardwalk side for the 10k and the Y&B club side for the half is wide enough. The thing is that sidewalk is even crowded in mile 24 of the full marathon at the end of the race when runners have spaced out the field so I'm just hoping runners stay calm and not run anyone over, its not that long a stretch !!
