Official 2016 Star Wars Half Marthon - The Dark Side Weekend

So there was some concern from folks coming in late, and when they might be able to get their packet if they miss the expo. An email just went out that included info about a pick-up service that will allow you to get your stuff at the VIP tent right before the race. It isn't free, but it's a nice addition.

BUT, that's only for the 10k and half, not the 5k (at least it specifically said 10k, half in the email)

My goal time for the half marathon is 1:45, so I have been training based on an 8:00 goal pace.
Impressive and ambitious! Best of luck - hope you make your time! If it were me, I would totally take it easy on the 10K - enjoy the race, the characters, the people watching, and save my energy for busting out that 1:45 for the half. Have fun at least one of the races so the whole weekend isn't a sufferfest!!!
:love:Goodbye money!!! I am almost hoping I don't like this merch as much in person as I do now!

As for the 10K, how do you typically feel on Friday after the Tempo run on Thursday? If you feel overly tired on training Friday, then it would be best to do the 10K at half marathon or long run pace. But if you normally feel pretty fresh on Friday, then I'd say your safe at pretty much any pace for the 10K. I would just think back to how I normally feel the day after a SOS (Tuesday, Thursday, or Sunday) and judge my effort for the 10K race based on how I normally feel the day after a training SOS (since that will be the half marathon race day). This system allows you to use your own recovery abilities as a basis for choosing a pace in a multi-day challenge.

I am usually elated on Friday because that means I made it through the heavy lifting (Tuesday's speed/strength run and Thursday's tempo run), and now I have four days of easier pacing to look forward to. But to get to your point, the Friday run always feels good. That makes sense, however, since it is at a pace that is at least 1:30/mi slower than my half marathon goal pace. Even after yesterday's tempo run, which for some reason didn't feel great, I had an very nice easy run this morning. However, I guess the question is, if I was to run this morning's run at a fast pace, how would I have felt? I'm not sure I know the answer to that.

To be safe for the half, I think I might take this approach on the 10k.

I thought you worked more on the Starliner, but that looks like the Dragon to me. :scratchin In any case, I like your Star Wars adjustments.
I work on all Visiting Vehicles (Progress, Soyuz, ATV, Cygnus, Dragon, Starliner). Used to be a Flight Controller for Progress/Soyuz/ATV, but now on Boeing project. Still do the 3D development for the other vehicles...so that's why Dragon is there.

I want all the stuffs.

I want the red jacket and the challenge bondiband, and probably either the water bottle or one of the tanks or tshirts. What does everyone think, will they have a tank top for the challenge too? Or just for the half? A wine glass? Lord knows I need more wine. lol.

ETA - just saw the PHM jackets were $84.95 so I am guessing the same here.

Me again :) Strategizing the expo with my race buddy who flies in on Thursday morning. I will be arriving Wednesday so I will probably just go early and buy her items for her. She is taking a taxi straight to expo and when she arrives around noon we will pick up our packets together. So here is my plan:

1. Leave resort (AKL) for expo on first bus. It says 9:30 it starts - is that really the earliest or if I go downstairs at 9 can I pick one up? I thought I had heard otherwise...
2. Dooney line (2 crossbody bags)
3. Merch area (jackets and tank tops are probably the fastest sellers of what we want)

Is this a good plan to get everything we want?

Question for you Dooney and Bourke bag collectors - 'cause you know more about this stuff than I do.

If I want to preorder a bag but then apply an AP discount later...can I do that? How does that work? Is it a pain in the butt?

I would agree based on your response to take the 10k easy.

I'm wondering if they'll have some sort of women's 10K "I Did It" shirt! I'm not sold on this one. But there are some fun things in this list.
At Disneyland in September, they didn't have women's cut "I Did It" shirts for the 10K. Hopefully they'll change that.

No, just takes some time:

- Pre-order the bag
- Pick up the bag
- Get in line to return the bag
- Re-buy the bag and makes sure they apply your discount

This is what I did in September. Note that you DO NOT get the Active.com fees back...and I'm pretty sure I needed the credit card that I had used to originally purchase the bag to get the refund.

From my past experience, the merchandise line will likely be much longer than the Dooney line. The jackets will definitely sell out first. I would swap #2 and 3 unless your top priority is a Dooney and is more important than missing out on a jacket.

The merchandise looks very nice. The only thing is a must for me are the large car magnets for the 10K, Half, and challenge. I collect those and place on my fridge. If the shirts are available I will get a shirt or 2. Since I will not be getting there until Friday afternoon I expect everything to be gone and listed on eBay at 3 to 5 times original price.

The e-bay thing is so frustrating. We aren't getting there until late on Thursday. I'm assuming everything will be gone by then. I hope they restock and you are able to get something!

In weather news, my last long run is tomorrow and it's supposed to be around 20. I think I totally jinxed it when I signed up. I looked at the training schedule and the thing that's gotten me through winter running is that, by the time I reach this point, it would be threatening to be spring in Michigan. No such luck! #MichiganProblems

Looking forward to some warmer weather and starting to get nervous about this race.

I arrive Thursday morning ... But it will be lunch-ish before I get to the expo. I'm also hoping for restocking.

They did a pretty good job of tricking out the stuff at last year's Wine and Dine ... Now to see if that's a trend or just dumb luck.

Have dooneys been selling slower lately? It seems like most arent selling out right away from posts I have read. I am just nervous because my only other race dooney I bought at the 2015 PHM, on a whim I got in that line 30 min after expo open and it sold out a few people behind me. After that I went to the merch area and they still had everything. But of course the check out lines there are always massive. So if I do that first I am afraid I will get stuck in line and not make it back in time to the dooneys. But maybe that bag was a fluke?

I am pretty sure registration AND merch has now become harder than running the races themselves. Lol.

Hi from similarly situated Ohio! I hate, HATE running in the cold. So, I have actually switched my schedule around to accomodate weather for any run over 3 or 4 miles. My long runs have now ended up being done on Wdnesdays! I have one more this week then I taper. GL to you!
