Official 2016 Star Wars Half Marthon - The Dark Side Weekend

The sidewalk along the lake is going to be the only point of concern, the actual Boardwalk area on the Boardwalk side for the 10k and the Y&B club side for the half is wide enough. The thing is that sidewalk is even crowded in mile 24 of the full marathon at the end of the race when runners have spaced out the field so I'm just hoping runners stay calm and not run anyone over, its not that long a stretch !!

Yeah well...I'm just going to say the W&D half of a half was NOT pretty. And at least one runner got very rude. There was almost an uprising I think...that was a very long 5 minutes!!

I know we have the event guide maps, but I'm surprised with less than 11 days to the first race that there are still no certified USATF courses posted yet.

I'm in J after wet shoes and a loooong bathroom line bombed my time during Jan's 10k. I'm hoping hustling to the front of the corral will be a little bit of a help. But honestly, maybe because we've never really been 'competing', we've never had an issue with bottlenecks. I'm generally just excited for an excuse to slow down :)

I think the characters will be a mix of old and new - Stormtroopers, Vadar, Kylo Ren, Boba Fett, Seventh Sister, Greedo, Jawas

What you probably won't see a lot of will be the non-dark side characters. The only "Dark Side" that were at the "Light Side" Half were Boba Fett and Storm Troopers.

BOBA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After marathon weekend in January, I'm curious to see if the trend holds up and I see more men in the princess leia slave outfit than I do women. While I can't say this with 100% certainty, I do not remember seeing women wear the outfit to run but I remember seeing a lot of men working it.

Funny! For the DL Light Side half I saw 2 guys running together in slave Leia costumes (fast, too... corral A or B!), and only one woman with the costume.

The amazing pregnant lady in the slave Leia outfit at Light Side was amazing. other runners were screaming and cheering as she went by. She was with a guy in the same outfit (which was funny with his beard)

Is it the exact same course as the WandD half but just backwards? If so, do they need to recertify the course?
Just thinking out loud.

Finally finished up the costume last night. So glad to mark that off the list! Man, we are getting so close to this thing...it's exciting!!

I would think the certification would be necessary for records and rankings purposes.

But it is not the exact same course as W&D, just reversed. It starts at a different location than the W&D finish, it takes a very different route through Epcot, a different route through DHS, a slightly different route through Animal Kingdom, and then the ESPN WWoS finish is very different than the W&D start.

I would think the certification would be necessary for records and rankings purposes.

Yes, this is true. Even if it was exactly the reverse of W&D, they would still need to get it certified if they wanted the course to stand for records and rankings. Plus, the mile markers would be off, so you would likely want it certified just so you put the mile markers in the correct places.

It looks like there are variations, for one the running locations inside DHS and Epcot are different and second and one that I haven't heard many people talk about much here is how you enter WWoS,from the event guide it looks like you enter through the same trail that was used in the ToT 10 miler,is it still a dirt road through there or maybe they paved it since the last ToT race,or do you not even run through there and the course map in the guide is deceiving.

Group Italian Dinner for Folks going Solo

Just checking is with all the folks above (@Z-Knight, @HockeyMomNH, @CynthiaC925) to make sure we still have six people for early dinner on Saturday (4/16) at 4:00pm at Portobello Country Italian Trattoria (Disney Springs). I will be there as will Dan K, so that's two. @HockeyMomNH, if you are planning on coming, will your daughter still be joining us?

Please like this post to let me know you will still be joining, and I will send you a PM with my name so you know what reservation to ask for. If anybody else wants to join, let me know as I should be able to increase the reservation size if needed.

It's getting real close people...

Hi, this is CynthiaC925. I'm so sorry but I will not be able to join you for dinner at the Portobello on 4/16. Thank you so much for arranging this for us-hopefully it will work out another race. Best of luck to everyone!

Hi All!
Sorry to interrupt all the pre-race planning. I know what it's like as DS(23) and I did Princess Weekend. We've got what probably is a stupid question, but this race weekend sounds like soooo much fun that DS and I are looking forward to registering next year already. Which is the question, how does one sign up for the "Challenge"? Do you register for each race individually and then double back to register (and pay) for the challenge. Or is it just one registration that gets you into both races and there is only one fee. Do you pay for each run?
Safe travels to all of you whether by plane, train, or automobile. Happy Running & Good luck to everyone! Get those awesome looking medals!

There is a single option to register for the Challenge, which automatically registers you for both the 10K and Half. :)

The latter. You register only for the challenge and you do 2 races and get 3 medals.

You cannot get credit for the challenge if you sign up for individual 10k and half races.

Thank you! Sorry for the silly question, but now I feel better about we have to do on registration day. I know how quickly these things sell out. Once again, good luck everyone! We had a blast in February

I know how you feel -- always better to know what to expect!! The list for registration will look like this, basically...

  • Star Wars Half Marathon - Dark Side
  • Star Wars Dark Side Challenge
  • Star Wars 10K
  • Star Wars 5K
  • runDisney Kids Races presented by GoGo squeeZ® Applesauce on the Go

I wanted to do all 3 races, so I signed up for "Star Wars Dark Side Challenge" and "Star Wars 5K". :thumbsup2
