"Official" 2015 MNSSHP thread

I remember people saying that, in past years' parties, people would get lots of candy, even handfuls of it later into the night. Now I read about people getting three, maybe eleven pieces? Are they being more stingy or are the people I'm reading from just not big trick-or-treaters?
my question also... very confusing

In my experience, it really depends on what time during the party you TOT. Early, they usually only give a few pieces, later in the night most, but not all, cast members handing out the candy are more generous. That is what my family experienced during our 2 party days this year and it has been the same in years past.

Which direction does the parade run? Does it run the same direction both times?

It starts in Frontierland and ends on Main Street. Yes, it goes in the same direction each time.

I'm confused why some people say they are ending up with only a few pieces of candy and others say the CMs hand it out by the handfulls?

My guess, it depends on the CM or the amount of people trick or treating. I went trick or treating at the Splash Mountain trail at 11:55 so that should have been late enough for them to be giving more candy. That was my only candy trail as I've heard many say that 1 stop late at night could be enough to fill your bag.

Maybe they were about to run out of candy. After the second parade, I went to Splash Mountain a saw a big line of people. I thought “Oh, no, there’s a wait for Splash!” and then at the entrance, a CM member was shouting “Candy this way!” and all those people went to that direction and I was the only one entering Splash Mountain. I was like “What madness is this?” I went trick or treating after gettting off the ride.

My point is, they had a lot of people stopped by earlier, maybe there wasn’t enough candy left till midnight and that’s why I didn’t get much even though it was late in the night.

Anyone heard if tonight's party sold out or not? We are going and just curious. Thanks!

My pick would be for Buzz. I am looking forward to riding HM at night and especially during the party for a spookier effect.
Did HM as our last fast pass, ending at 625...was thinking we'd catch the spooky effects on our way out. Alas it was pouring and we just had yelling cast members instead.

I'd do HM as it usually has a longer line than Buzz especially at Halloween party.

Last year we filled our bags (larger than the ones they handed out) after two ToT stops. This year it took us about 5-8 mins being yelled at through the Tiki line to get 2 tootsie rolls and a bite size (smaller than fun size) snickers. Went to two other of the lantern lit spots, but there was no one handing out candy or directing people because of the rain, which had stopped nearly an hour before. We stopped T oT at that point so maybe it got better later?

We are in the car on the way down right now. We just decided to add tonight's party to our trip, so we are now doing 3 parties! Super excited!

I am doing our plans right now and am trying to gather info for all the magic shots. From past posts I have the cauldron at Fantasy Land wall and the hitchhiking ghosts at Splash Mountain exit.

Are there any more and if so, where?

Has this been posted here yet? Magic shot video...
I've been out of town, so sorry if I'm repeating old info! Lol

Smitch posted this awesome Animated Magic Shot (taken as a normal photo and they added the animated effects later)

I have gotten a ton of candy both nights. I did my ToTing between 9 and 11 generally and never had a problem with just getting a few pieces. Anyone who only got 11 pieces of candy (which is really about 2 handfuls) could not have gone through very many lines.

That was me :) 11 sounds like a lot but because the pieces were small, it looked quite sad (fit in 1 hand and I have a small hand)

I went to the first party, I know it was an outlier, but we did multiple TOT stops and maybe filled up 1/4 of our bags. At many stops, the CMs had full hands of candy, but would only drop 1-3 pieces into our bags. We TOT throughout the night as we came to stops. It didn't get any better as the night went on.

I understand, I'm just trying to imagine how that happened. I went through every ToT station except for 2 and walked out with several pounds of candy between the two nights.

A lot of depends on the CM (I saw one CM who literally filled up one personas entire bag) but unless someone only stops at 1 or 2 stations, I can't understand them not getting a decent amount of candy. But like I said, I waited until the initial rush was over to start, so that may have been a factor.

I figured I'd repost this here since it might help answer some questions I have seen asked.

My family went to MNSSHP last year for the first time and loved it so much we decided to go again this year as the only Disney portion of our recent trip. Sadly, this party paled in comparison mainly due to grouchy cast members and crowds.

We went to the 9/27 party. Arrived just after 4 via ferry. On our way to the bag check station closest to the ferry there was a security guard that forced us and a few other people (while letting plenty of people go to the one we wanted to go to) to go to the bag check near the center of the entrance which was twice as long as the one which was closer to where we were. After that long wait we were able to get into the party quickly and get our bands.

During the rain storm, I parked under an awning near the exit of a closed ride with my son and stroller while my wife went to buy ponchos, this was about 6:30ish and was told by a cast member I couldn't stand there because it was going to be used for the party at 7. I told her I was just waiting for my wife to return with ponchos to which she replied "you can't wait here." Since it was pouring at the time I asked where I could wait that was dry and she pointed at a restaurant across from where I was standing. I went into the restaurant, now soaked, and tried to find someplace to sit, but there wasn't anywhere so I stood near a window so I could keep an eye out for my wife, but I was once again told I couldn't wait where I was and I needed to find a table. There were no tables, so I just left and waited outside since the rain had slowed enough to not be an issue and I was already wet.

After that we got my son changed out of his wet clothes and into his costume and started to trick or treat. After a couple of (long) lines it was apparent the people giving out the candy were not doing so in similar ways. I know of at least 3 candy lines were one side was giving out handfuls of candy and the other side was giving out between 1 and 3 pieces.

We also had an issue with a cast member yelling at my 3 year old. My son saw the barrel of candy and thought he could reach in and grab a handful, I saw him reaching out and put my hands on his shoulders to stop him and at the same time I was starting to explain to him that he needed to use his bag she yelled "don't put your hands in the bucket." This completely shut my son down, who didn't think he was doing anything wrong. As some of you parents know, how you talk to a small child will determine their reaction and his reaction was fear and shame so he didn't want to go into any more candy lines.

I noticed some people at the same party said most rides were walk on, but that was not true for my experience, we had to wait 10-20 minutes for most rides (Snow White seemed to be closed every time we passed it so I don't know what the wait for it would have been). While that is not long, I do not consider it "walk-on". Last year we walked on more rides than we had to wait for, this time it was the opposite.

I found the crowds this year to be much heavier than last year and they stayed in the park much longer. Last year the crowds started to thin out around 10. This year it seemed just as crowded at 10:30 as it did at 7:00.

My son lost his wrist band early in the night and was never asked about it. We were stopped once at 7pm, on Its a Small World, to check for our bands and that was it. We were never asked again. Last year we must have been asked at least a dozen times.

I don't think I'll be going to another party any time soon, while it wasn't completely bad (we got to ride rides, enjoy some dance parties, eat some candy) it just wasn't the same.

Hi all - so I was supposed to travel to Orlando in Nov for work, and that trip just got cancelled. Unfortunately, I already bought a ticket for the Halloween party Nov 1st. It says "non-refundable" and "non-transferrable"...is that true? Thanks!

Question - if you TOT as an adult with no children present, will the CM give you less candy? :charac2:

In response to the candy question. Most stops gave us 5 pieces of candy each. A couple only gave us 2, but two different stops gave ds handfuls. We went to each stop once and all 3 of our bags got filled to the rim. There was only one candy trail on our night. The splash mt trail want there.

All candy lines moved quickly and the longest we waited was 10 minutes.
