Official 2015 Disneyland Half Marathon Thread.

Hey everyone ... longtime reader, but just getting involved with posting ... have been on a few other forums as well.

In regards to the Disneyland Express ... has anyone ever needed them earlier than their posted pickup time? After doing the Dopey in January, heading out to CA for the DDD and transportation is the last thing I need to take care of.

Thanks so much!

Anyone used the Disneyland Resort Express from LAX?

The resort express gets pretty good reviews on the main DL board, apart from the fact that it lacks some of the ambiance as DME. I thought about taking it from SNA for this trip, but instead decided I'll just get a taxi as I didn't want to deal with the waiting for the shuttle (it's hourly) and then all the stops at other resorts. I'm just too impatient. :D

That's a great point ... depending on when you land, you could be waiting a long time for the bus. Thanks for your thoughts ... taxi it is!

Yeah, my flight lands at 10:46 a.m., so after waiting for bags and such, I could be in for a decent wait for the shuttle when an extra $10-12 will get me to my hotel on my own time.

I think I'll stick with DLR Express - found a discount code on the DL board to book it for $38 RT. :) Here's hoping I remember I need to pick up my luggage...

I'm in 'I'd rather run when it's cooler' camp. Luckily for me, we're approaching the end of summer here.

"Prime Time Shuttle" and "Super Shuttle" the reviews for both of these are terrible from LAX to Disneyland. Any other thoughts?

I'm surprised to hear that. We take SuperShuttle on every trip and have never had any problems. They do circle the airport until they fill up the bus, but we've never been around more than once extra. Personally I'd rather waste time sitting on a comfortable bus going round and round the airport than standing around with all my luggage at a bus stop waiting for the next DRE.

Not sure what they have had in the past for Disneyland, but this is the jacket from this year's Marathon Weekend. My one friend that ordered it was disappointed (just a big glittery shoe?? Where are the characters??) and ended up selling it online. Her experience made me decide I wouldn't want to order one that I couldn't see first.

Yeah, I have to second this. I also preordered the Marathon jacket. I don't think it's horrible, and I kept it, but I was SUPER disappointed in its lack of characters. I don't think I'll ever order one again unless I see a pic first.

Yes we do. 50 at night is nice training weather. Where can we go that has that right now? :)

Western Washington!!! It's 50* right now at 8pm. :D But of course I'm sitting here, eating Valentines candy instead of running. Lol.

I agree, I am waiting to buy any jackets or merchandise at the convention. To risky.... with that being said I did preorder the pin.. when I did the marathon 2015

So, I've been doing most of my training so far using RunKeeper - but I think it's time to take everything to a new level, especially as I start to work on intervals. For those of y'all that are experienced with this kind of thing ... what do you use? A GPS watch? Is there a kind you would recommend?

Right now, I run until the .25 mile announcement via RunKeeper (distance, time, average mile - it takes, oh, 10 seconds maybe) and walk through that, plus a countdown from 5 and start running again. Right now, that breaks down to about 11 minutes running/1 minute walking each mile.

I know I can change RunKeeper to give me interval alerts at time instead of distance, but I like the the distance/time/pace announcements too.

I've got another 10K planned for the 28th, so I'm hoping to try out out new intervals during that race - I'm doing four training runs a week right now, with one long run each week to condition out for the distance (I've got to do 8 miles this weekend and then 9 the following before I "taper" down for the 10K).

My 10K goal for proof of time is 1:11, which I think is doable between now and June 2. I finished the RnR NOLA 10K in 1:21, so there's definitely room for improvement. I just want to put in all the work now, so I can get myself as close to the front as I can giving me tons of time to goof off and enjoy the rD races as my rewards for all my hard work and training. I'm just hoping that intervals will help me shave some minutes and get more consistent with my pacing.

Gah! Maybe I'll just win PowerBall tonight and I can hire Jeff Galloway to come out, live with me and personally train me for this every day. ;)

We have been using the Gym Boss mini max from the beginning. LOVE it! I would definitely recommend to buy the clear sleeve for like $3. I'm a 'sweater' and I had to get a replacement due to it. Been almost a year now with the sleeve and no issues at all. FWIW they gladly replaced the one I had an issue with due to sweat.

Star Wars weekend preordered jacket said "May the Course Be With You" on the back. Not available at the expo. The expo had a different one.

GymBoss it is! I like the price point to for an entry-level device for me. I figure, once I get used to it, I can spring for a really nice Garmin watch.

Well I'm really late to the party, but I signed up for DDD this week through a travel partner. The wife and kids didn't want to use any of our travel budget to come with, so it's going to be a Solo trip for me. These will be my first west coast races and my 15th and 16th runDisney races.

So, I'm starting to plan out prices, etc for our trip. I noticed GetSports has 3 Day park hopper tickets for $200. Do you have to use them for other travel arrangements or can you just buy the tickets? http://www.gettravel.com/dlhm/themepark.shtml Because that is a super discount. We always use Undercover Tourist for WDW tickets. Does anyone know of any legitimate discount sites for DL?

Any opinions of flying into SNA or LAX? I know SNA is closer, but LAX seems to have a little better deal on flights. Southwest will release flights for September later this week.

Am I reading the link right that you need to pick up the tickets at the expo? Or you can pick them up early/get them shipped to you but it costs $22?

I think I'll be flying into LAX because, like you, the prices seem to be a little better. Currently stalking the flight I want and waiting for it to go down...

I think you can pick up or have them shipped. It seems as thought the $22 is to be able to pick them up earlier than the expo? Not quite sure. Just read the fine print in the terms...looks like at least $22 per shipment. Still, if I'm buying two tickets...that's still a huge money saver on a 3 day.

I'm stalking flights too... getting to the West Coast from Mississippi isn't the cheapest/easiest.

Gotcha. That's what I thought. :thumbsup2 I bought a 5-day hopper yesterday under a "buy a 4-day hopper, get the 5th day free" deal and thought I got a decent price, so I was going to be ill if I could have actually saved an additional $44. :faint: But I would have had to have paid the $22 for shipping/early pick-up since we'll be arriving on Wednesday, and I plan on Wednesday being one of my park-hopper days...so I only paid $22 more than the deal in your link. That only makes me slightly ill...so yay? :confused3 :p

I just looked again at SNA and they don't have any direct options from OH, where LAX does...so I will definitely be going with LAX. Right now the flights I am looking at are $429 RT, and I have no idea if that's a good price since I have never flown out west as an adult before. Normally I end up paying $250-$300 RT to Orlando. :confused3 Hopefully when Southwest releases their fares for later this year the rest of the airlines will drop a bit!
