Official 2015 Disney Marathon Thread

Not going to start freaking out weather too much until I get there on Wednesday (though I did complain to a friend about the possibility of rain if it happens this will make the third straight Disney race I've dealt with some sort of bad weather). Yeah the forecast is going to only going to get more accurate from here on out. But I also remember one race where I remembered the forecast a few days out it looked horrible but by the time race rolled around the weather was nice.

Oh Dopey shirt since I didn't see a post with them in it:

Can someone suggest a good place for my family to watch me run in Epcot? Not the finish line... I (hopefully) will be running through Epcot between 9:30 and 10 when it is open. I'm looking for a spot somewhere in Epcot that won't be crowded but from where they can see me coming from a way off. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance...
We have had good luck cheering for people in front of Norway. Last year my wife brought frozen cokes from club cool to our friends that were doing the Marathon and met them there. There are spots to sit in the rocks there too
Yes! I second this... for all my long runs and races I take a Chill towel with me (if you have run a Disney race in that last 1-2 years you probably know what they are) If I'm heating up, I wet it with water, wipe face, and typically tuck it around the back of neck or into the sport bras sleeves and down my back. It really helps to keep me a little cooler for a mile or 2 :thumbsup2 I think they sell shamoi type towels like this at sporting goods stores. Sponges are awesome, too and are small enough to tuck in your waistband or sports bra for ladies and they're super cheap!
We were at 5below this week and noticed they had the cooling towels for $5. I am pretty sure they are made of a different material than chamois

. I know it's subject to change but fretting over the weather gives me something to do when I'm not running.

However I do wish they gave the option to be long or short sleeve. I would rather have the shirt be short sleeve as I am from South Florida. Long sleeve in the heat is not fun.

An option would be good, but coming from a cold climate, I like the long sleeves. These are the only races that I run all year that give out long sleeve shirts.

As for this year's designs, I'm just happy they ditched the baby blue from last year's marathon shirt. Yuck :crazy2:

Yeah, they probably are not true chamois- absorbent material (that would get a bit heavy), but when I have felt them that is the same feeling material I remember, smoother and slick not like the washcloth material of a chill towel. Not sure what the brand is called or how else to describe them :upsidedow

We found a great spot that lets you see the runners twice. Be at the gate where the runners enter Epcot. This is the gate between Canada and the UK, by where the little coffee cart usually is. If they see you there, then they can book it over to see you after you come around from Mexico as you make the turn for Spaceship Earth.

I don't think the spectators will have access to the countries from France onward, but that is my memory from five years ago and things may have changed in that time.

Another idea if your family doesn't mind a bit of a hike after the race would be to go to Boardwalk or the sidewalk to DHS. It is a lot less congested there and they can have sight of you for a longer period of time.

Well, my last long(ish) run is done-a brutal 8 miles on the treadmill to avoid the icy roads! The taper must be getting to me, because I think this 8 was harder than the 18 I did 2 weeks ago!

Just 2 more short shake out runs this week, then it will be race time!

I had a blister pop up today, in a pace where I occasionally get them...tips to get rid of it for next weekend? Should I pop it?

I'd drain it, then put Neosporin + band aid on it. Hope it doesn't bug you again!!

Totally agree - 9 yesterday felt awful! I also chocked it up to taper!

If you can find them, Bandaid makes a specific blister bandaid. They are awesome, and can be worn while running. Not only do they protect "hot spots", they also help drain the blister under the bandage. Good luck!

My guess would be World Showcase maybe Japan. I haven't actually watched from here during marathon so I could be giving you bad advice. I just know Canada and UK always seem congested as does America so my thought would be after France before America and Japan is pretty open with some walls they could sit on to look for you. It gets very busy in front of Spaceship Earth so I would avoid that area.

BioFreeze! I love that stuff. I use it on my knees. I would not suggest putting it on your forehead, it runs with sweat and burns your eyes, ask me how I know. :rotfl2: They sell it at the expo, I think its $12 a bottle or 2 for $20. Its my miracle gel.

Omg that must have burnt your eyes! You reminded me....we all do 'duh' things sometimes .... in a race....Mine 'duh' was at the VERY beginning of either the full or half and I cannot remember which, I poured poweraide all over my head to cool off thinking it was water!
It was still dark out and I wanted to cool off...well I cooled off and was sticky for the rest of the race!!! Mind you I didn't think about it until I took a shower when it was all over but still! Always make sure its water before dunking!

Just got done with 12 on the treadmill, and I agree, basically inflicted torture. Fortunately the football game was on to distract a little bit. I ran 8 yesterday in the snow/ice and ended up falling on a hidden patch of ice, so I figured I shouldn't push my luck today. I love the feeling of the next long run being a race :thumbsup2

Thanks! I'll drain it tonight and try to look for those bandaids before my trip starts-they sound perfect!

I'm so sorry to laugh at your predicament, but... :rotfl2: lesson learned I guess! I am sure we've all had similar moments!

Yikes, glad you are ok after falling! I tried to watch the Bruins game to distract from my run, but they've been playing so poorly lately that it made the run seem more painful... :rolleyes2

It's crazy to think that at this time next week, it will all be over!

I will carry a chill towel package with me in the running belt for when it gets warm. I do not want is to be to warm but i also do not want it to in 30/40's either. Start in the 50's would be nice

How big are the Chill Towels? I already a carrying my fuel & cell phone in my running belt. Would love to add one if these towels but I'm thinking it might be too much bulk. I have a Fitletic belt with three add on water bottles (2 8 oz and 1 6 oz).

It's the size of a washcloth (I also have one the size of a hand towel... And very thin, I tuck it in belt and just fold it over and tuck it so it doesn't flop all over before I start really using it. It's never a bother and I'm always glad I have it!

As Fruto76 said the size of a wash cloth. The measurements are 12in by 12in. I found my second one while I am packing.

So is that also part of the taper "fun"??? Because I was kind of getting worried there! It's like, you can run 26 and be "fine" (if anyone can really be fine after doing that to your body!:)), skip a weekend (short bout with flu), start taper so you ramp down the mileage and run 7 miles two weekends in a row, and you're like "geez why is 7 miles feeling harder than the 26?!??"... I'm not sure if it's short term memory problems on my part (as in, my mind playing tricks on me to make me think those 26 miles weren't actually as hard as they were!), if it's just part of the taper/mileage ramp down, or just my body still healing from having been sick over that weekend. :confused3

Heavy legs is part of a normal taper, as is feeling like every sniffle is pneumonia. As long as you put all your training miles in, you'll be fine. :)

In the airport, waiting to board my flight to Orlando! Ohana banana bread pudding tonight! See you all there! :D

According to the Weather Channel, the weather on Saturday morning for the half is looking a little cooler. Currently an overnight low of 46 on Friday. That would be perfect.

Sunday morning for the marathon is still looking a little on the warm side with the overnight low at 61. Really hoping that cool weather will push out just a little more.

That's pretty nice for the half. Honestly I'll take Sunday too as the temps here at home are supposed to drop this week.
