Official 2015 Disney Marathon Thread

That's pretty nice for the half. Honestly I'll take Sunday too as the temps here at home are supposed to drop this week.

I'm with ya on that one...it's supposed to be below zero here the first night I will be in Orlando....this trip is happening at the perfect time to get out of the north!

Heavy legs is part of a normal taper, as is feeling like every sniffle is pneumonia. As long as you put all your training miles in, you'll be fine. :)
Every sniffle is pneumonia and every little twinge is a muscle tear...yup it's taper time all right.

My biggest irrational fear during taper is falling down the stairs...we all have our own forms of taper madness!

It already below zero here with close to -20 wind chills I can't wait for my Wednesday flight.

I am on the opposite side of the temps. We had record highs of into the mid 80's. It is still swimming pool weather down here. :beach:

I get phantom knee pain during my taper madness. I'm still running a decent amount (just shorter distances) during the taper, so it's more paranoia than anything else.

I have a room at Boardwalk that I am not going to be able to use! For Jan 8-15----Any takers?!?!?

Yeah I am having visions of 2013. That wasn't a pleasant experience for me at all. I think that was also the year of the disappointing 20 mile suprise.
UGH! That was my first and only marathon to date. The 20-mile surprise was a big part of what convinced me to sign up. I had unknowingly been training for the humidity and temps by doing hot yoga several times a week. I honestly think that was a big part of me feeling good even in the extreme weather.

Had my first running-related anxiety dream last night - dreamt I suddenly had signed up for the 5k in addition to the half this week (my first). Didn't know where the start line was, forgot my number and race belt, then thought I was going to get swept after taking character photos so decided to run full out on the last part of the race, then worried I had used up too much energy to survive my first half (which in my dream was the next day).

Glad I got that anxiety dream out of the way ;) Maybe I should listen to some uplifting Disney music before bed for the next few days...
I have had 2 anxiety dreams already - and some insomnia. In my head I'm not that nervous, but my subconscious sure is! My first anxiety dream was a few nights ago - I had some serious heart condition and was hooked up to all these tubes - but all I was concerned about was if I could run the marathon! :rotfl: Then last night, I got lost during the half, and it was taking me so long to find the course that I ended up behind the sweepers. But for some reason they were offering alternate sport options, and if you completed that, you would still be eligible for Goofy after completing the full marathon. So I did a bobsled run! :lmao:

Well, my last long(ish) run is done-a brutal 8 miles on the treadmill to avoid the icy roads! The taper must be getting to me, because I think this 8 was harder than the 18 I did 2 weeks ago!

Just 2 more short shake out runs this week, then it will be race time!

I had a blister pop up today, in a pace where I occasionally get them...tips to get rid of it for next weekend? Should I pop it?
I second the advice to get the special Bandaid blister bandages - they are amazing!
I had the same brutal run - I braved the cold on Saturday and did 6.2 miles - so hard!

Thanks - I have been getting really nervous the past few days. Yesterday I just ran across a parking lot and my legs felt like lead. I am having some sniffles yesterday and today too - so worried about getting sick. I didn't think taper madness would get to me so badly, but it has!

In the airport, waiting to board my flight to Orlando! Ohana banana bread pudding tonight! See you all there! :D
Jealous! Have fun!

According to the Weather Channel, the weather on Saturday morning for the half is looking a little cooler. Currently an overnight low of 46 on Friday. That would be perfect.

Sunday morning for the marathon is still looking a little on the warm side with the overnight low at 61. Really hoping that cool weather will push out just a little more.
I'm okay with the temps for myself, but Accu Weather is saying more than a 50% chance of rain both days - that has me nervous.

On the plus side, I have a few things ready for our trip that usually I'm not doing until the night before: I finished packing for DD, started my race music mixes, and have all the supplies for my costumes (still have to do the crafty part though).

I'm definitely paranoid about getting sick...I work in the office area of a large hospital system and walk through the hospital to get to Starbucks each morning (necessary! ::yes::) and this morning I walked by a spill, which turned out to be a pile of...sick, shall we say. :faint: Ew sorry. The Paranoia Is Strong With This One!

20-mile surprise was lame. Totally agree. :headache:

YES THIS. Temps - whatever, but rain - NOOOOOOO.

I randomly woke up at 3AM this morning and was wide awake - good practice for a few days from now, I guess? :confused3 :rotfl2:

Exactly, so don't forget to do a shake out run ahead of time. The distractions of Disney can make it easy to skip. Of course, if you are running Dopey, then you have a built in shake out run with the 5k.

Already lots of good comments on how to deal with the blister.

As far as prevention, I put body glide anywhere on my feet where I get hot spots. In between all toes, and then a few other spots. Since I started doing this, I've never had a blister in a race, including Goofy.

I've been off running for a week due to some knee pain. Based on my research I think it may be IT band pain, and/or that I hyper extended my knee on my Christmas Day run.

I've been focusing on taking lots of strength building yoga classes to keep up with doing something, and to keep working on my strength & core stability. Feeling a little nervous about having taken a week off from running, but I think it was the best option to preserve myself for the half.

I'm planning a 3 mile run-walk session tomorrow to test my complete my half marathon outfit. Going to try out some KT tape for the IT band and see if that provides me some additional support. If all else fails, I know I can power walk the half if needed.

A friend that was tracking a group of us running that weekend texted us when we got to mile 20. He said. "ta da here is your mile 20 suprise!"and then sent us this set of emoticons.

Those symbolize "Run Well and we'll go to O'hana". I think his text was a better surprise than Disney's

I admire your friend's emoji skills! :thumbsup2 Seriously, if they had never said anything about how awesome mile 20 was going to be, I probably would have been pleasantly surprised...but nope. They totally over-hyped it!

Yeah that's what bugged us too. I did love the medal though. I think that's probably my favorite medal from any race I've ever done.

Yeah, the medal is fantastic. Definitely my favorite that I have as well...makes me wonder what they'll come up with for marathon #25. :scratchin

I know we only have a few days left but I hope that's enough to get your leg in good enough shape to let you do your races. Make sure to listen to your body though and don't create an even worse problem for yourself then you may have already.

There are 2 reasons I haven't gone to a doctor yet: 1)If they tell me I can't run, I'm going to ignore them anyway, and 2)If it's less serious, I am not going to pay someone to tell me to rest and ice, which I'm already doing.

I know it's stupid, but I would never live with myself if I skipped Dopey because something might go wrong. I don't want to do Dopey again so this is it for me. I'd rather miss the rest of 2015 than miss Dopey!

The possible good news is that I seem to be able to walk just fine, although I haven't walked long distances or power-walked. The pain started at some point during my Dopey simulation weekend and I ran my 20 miler with it. It was bearable then, so we will see. Fingers crossed!

Well I know my leg issue isn't taper madness, but I keep feeling like I'm getting sick. In just the last hour my throat has been getting scratchy.

Mine is always twisting my ankle. I've stepped on an uneven sidewalk or a rock so many times and a little panic attack each time.
