Official 2014 Tinker Bell Half Marathon

I'm finally getting back to the DIS boards! I ran (walked) the Princess Half this year, and just agreed to do Tink in 2014 with 3 friends. I'm a little sad I won't be at Princess though, but super excited about Tink.

I've not done much running since Princess. My longest race since was an 8k. I need to get back to consistently running. One week I might run 1x the next 0x and the next 3x.

I still need to read through all 40 pages - but I can't wait to hear all the tips about Tink!

I would actually LOVE to do that! But the info they sent out is saying since the 5K is full, no one from the half is being allowed to go down to the 5K. The email also said that if you're caught running either race with the wrong bib you'll be disqualified. I'm still gonna ask about it at the Expo though. And I posted on their facebook event to see if anyone wanted to trade bibs with me. Like you said, an expensive 5K but it would still be fun.

Fingers crossed they let you switch!

Tink went through both DL and DCA this year. And I agree- if the course is the same as the Tink first half, I'd be very happy! most of it was in the parks! Yippee!

Me too! It seemed to make it go so much faster.

:wave2: Hi! You're going to have a ton of fun at Tink!

Now I'm debating.

Tink + Princess for my C2C
Tink + Slipper Challenge for my C2C
Tink + Wine & Dine for my C2C

So many decisions!! This will probably be my only Disneyland race, so I def need to try for C2C. My mom lives near Orlando, so I'm always down there visiting anyways. It's easy to add in a race to my normal visiting schedule. :)

I'm doing Tink & the Slipper Challenge. I love Cinderella so that's where my priorities lie. :rotfl2: I'm doing it for the Slipper medal and not so much the special C2C, so if it's crazy and there are problems and sells out crazy fast like DDD, then I'll just wait until '16 ('15 is Goofy for the 10th) and stick w/ Tink.

Need advice from you ladies ~ I got an email from the San Francisco Marathon and 1/2 this morning that prices are increasing next week if you want to sign up for the race. All of the sudden I got a desire pang to run it (I'd be doing the 2nd 1/2 which is waaayyy less hilly than the 1st 1/2. It's on 6/16 so I would get 6 "long runs" in and 7 weeks of training in before race day, which won't be a problem. Reg is $115. And being in the bay area, that's the only expense, except for parking race morning, no hotel needed.

My question is do I register for it. Here's where the dilema lies ~ I'm doing a 20 week program for NYC mostly b/c it'll give me 11 weeks for DDD. That means I go straight from the 7 weeks of SF training to 20 weeks of NY training. It would give me a great jumping off point for NY, but on the downside of it, I'm worried I might get burnt out before NY, b/c it would be like 27 weeks of training. So should I skip it and go strong in Nov or give in and do SF too?

Kim--Here are my thoughts since you asked ......I would avoid injury, burnout and anything else that might come up and go strong for NYC. SF is not going anywhere and you been waiting for a while to run NYC so I would focus on NYC. (and Tink of course) :thumbsup2
You're a strong runner and what ever you decide you'll do great. :)

I think I'm with Vicki on this one. I say skip it to avoid any injuries. 7 extra weeks of training before jumping into 20 weeks of training is quite a bit...Totally up to you though!

Thanks guys ~ you're right. I guess I needed to see it written out and hear from someone other than me that I should skip it. :goodvibes I think I'm just getting antsy, b/c I haven't had a bigger run since Tink and aside from Bay to Breakers, nothing until DDD. It's just a light year and feels weird!

I know--I really wish DL had more races going on. (I'm just not interested in going to WDW again to run)

Want to hear weird.....we just booked a vacation for next winter that has nothing to do with a Disney park, race or run. I know --that hasn't happened in years. :confused3 Aloha--Hawaii here we come. And no, we are not staying at Aulani either. The airfare could not be beat and it's been a couple of years since we've been. A non-Disney vacation for us that's weird. :lmao::lmao::lmao:

You know me loves my Hawaii so have loads of fun ! Headed over to Kauai end of June for a girls trip and back in Dec with DH. If Disney would just open a whole park in Hawaii life would be sooo complete for me !:cool1:

Thanks ! I just love the islands and can't get enough of those ABC Stores. For me those fun little stores are better than Nordstrom. :lmao:

It sounds like you've pretty much already decided to skip SF, but I thought I'd chime in since I have a different perspective. I personally tend to get lazy if I'm not actively training for a race, so I would be all over that SF race. When I hit a "dead zone" in my training, I tend to think, "eh, I don't *really* need to go running during the week," and then my fitness ends up suffering. But that's just me, and I totally get that not everyone is that way.

I'm personally currently in training for my first full marathon in June, which will roll right into DDD training. After DDD, I think there 3 weeks until my official Dopey training plan starts, and I'm already thinking, "oh no! What will I do those 3 weeks?" Lol.

Me too!!! :headache: I know that it's harder b/c DL doesn't own the streets surrounding the resort like WDW, but they could still do smaller races like 5/10/13k's. I know I'd still show up!!

That sounds like so much fun! What island are you going to? Oh my god, the ABC Stores are AWESOME!!!! When I went a few years back, they had this perfume that is my favorite and it was only $7! You can't beat that. :goodvibes

I get that no running when not training! I get like that ~ I stop running and go to the gym, it just seems easier than running sometimes.

Congrats on the 1st full in June! Which one are you doing? Your race schedule sounds like mine ~ I go from DDD/NY into a light couple of weeks before gearing up again for Tink. But right now, it's just weird not having something formal going on yet. :rotfl2:

Anyone doing anything fun/cooking something good for Cinco de Mayo? I'm still looking for a good carne asada recipe but right now, I'm making some salsa and enchiladas. With it being so hot the past couple of days, margaritas sounds soooo good right now too! :drinking1

Check my blog link- I posted a margarita recipe from wdw!

We're going to Oahu and staying at the Hilton Hawaiian Village. With our little guy it's the island that just works for us and easy to do. I really am looking into hiking Diamond Head. (It's a bucket list item and easier to achieve than getting into Club 33 :lmao:)

I'm happy to pick up some perfume for you. Honestly---just let me know.

Would love a good carne asada recipe. Let us know if you find one. But it looks like just grilled shrimp and avocado for me. (Trying to be healthy)

I'm doing the Rock n Roll Seattle Marathon! It's convenient, because it's my hometown, so I'm familiar with the course. I've never run it all at one time, but I've run most of the pieces of it, either during the half last year, or during training runs. I'm hoping I can talk my family/friends into coming out and watching, too.

Question- when you stop to take photos with characters , do they have people to help take photos with your camera. ? Do they have professionals? Like a photo pass?
Ps...I'm only doing the 5k.

The characters have the standard Disney cast member handler with them, who can take pics using your camera. Brightroom or Marathonfoto or whoever they use will take pics with their cameras (if they are there), but those pics are not free.

There are no photopass photographers along the course. (Not entirely true - when I ran the marathon in 2013, I did not hit Epcot until the princesses were out in the world showcase, so I have some photopass pics with them, in addition to my camera and the marathonfoto ones.)

Hey gals. I just wanted to report in about my weekend. We went to SF for the Diva Half and at the Expo they did let me move down to the 5K so I was pretty happy about that. Shhhhh dont tell my Dr. but I ran it :) I was going to be good and I started to do 1:1 intervals but I felt great so I just ran. Mixed about 5 minutes of walking in there total. Just looked at my little spreadsheet I track my races on and realized I ended up with a 5K PR by 4 seconds :lmao::cool1:
Now back to being a good girl and not running for a few more weeks!

If any of you are ever considering doing one of the Diva races I'd recommend it. Expo was smaller than Disney of course but really geared towards women. Raw Threads was there with booth and some cute shirts.
At the race they started the half before the 5K which was good for the half runners. Lots of great loot at the end. They hand you a tiara and boa about 100 yards before the finish. Once you finish you get your medal from a shirtless pretty boy. Then someone hands you a long stemmed red rose. Then you get a class of champagne or ginger ale. Overall, very fun and very upbeat. Since I didn't do the half I cant say anything about course support for that though.

well got in a nice 5 1/2 mile run yesterday. Longest run since the marathon in January. I feel pretty good today.
