Official 2013 Tinker Bell Half Marathon Thread

Did you try the "AP Passholder Early Entry"? It not a special preview but you sign up and get in 1 hr earlier on selected day. Maybe you can try that one?

At BW Stovalls....the AAA discounts are FINALLY in the computer. It may be worth a phone call to try and see if your rate for Tink weekend can be lowered. It was just a couple of $$ for us but that's more to spend at the expo. :cool1:

I signed up for the early entry for race weekend, well Mon & Tues after the race, so that'll be good.

Thanks for the heads up w/ Stovalls. I'll check them out. And while I'm at it, and I know this is wwwwaaaaayyyyy off topic, but can I complain about airfares and Vegas?!? I've been watching airfare for mid-August and Jan for WDW and right now it's cheaper for me to fly to WDW in January 1 way than to come home from Vegas 1 way in Aug! I'm sorry, but that's just wrong.

Wow -that is wrong !!!!! Vegas used to be so cheap to fly in and out of Oakland. August used to be a "low" season anyway. I guess those days are LONG gone. Now really off topic--Have you ever gone to Mon Ami Gabi @ Paris? It's a French Steakhouse---I love that place !!!

What airlines and prices are you finding for WDW?? I would love to find a good deal for Feb. for the Princess 1/2. We usually fly Southwest and their booking isn't open for Feb.

Haven't been to the steak house yet. Haven't even been in Paris in forever, I'll have to check it out. And the flights thing is weird ~ my whole family is going for my cousin's 21st (family tradition thing) and were looking at flights earlier in the week and there were cheap-ish flights and when I went on Thursday night the only flights in the $100s were 1st thing in the morning.

As for WDW, I've been looking on Kayak just to keep a watch out, I know prices will go down in a few months. I usually do red eyes when I go back east and have been looking at Thursday night flights. Right now, flying out of SJC is the cheapest of the 3 and a 1way/red eye is $226. I think the flight leaves at 5:15 or so and gets in at 5:20, w/ a layover in LAX. Coming back, I've been looking at 1st ones out so I can get back to work in the afternoon and they're around the same price. I think the airlines are American, United and US Airways. I would love to use SW b/c of the points or Virgin b/c it's non-stop w/ tv, but SW doesn't do overnights and Virgin only flies once and it's in the morning.

Princess is really fun ~ like Tink. I did it w/ my sister the 1st year. Are you going to upgrade to the Premier or just stick w/ the race travel?

I'll have to check out Kayak. For WDW I need a early morning flight out for us. It think doing a red eye would be too difficult with our little mouseketer. I will also check out Virgin-it would be great to get a non-stop. SW just opened booking through Jan 4th.
As far as the Premier pass-it's all about what will be the best deal. Are there discounts like what we get now for DL? We will be in WDW for Princess 2013 then I'm trying to encourage DH to do the full Marathon in 2014 and of course I'm going to do Tink both yrs in Jan. So I'm trying to figure out how to get both WDW trips done in one AP season. Maybe just by letting our AP expire for a few weeks and get a new one (premier) just before Tink then we would be covered. Does this sound right to you? As far as our little mouseketer--no upgrade for him just "race discount tickets". Unless the WDW kids AP's are cheaper. I have no clue yet. Times like this is when I wish I had been a math/stat. major :confused3

For the Virgin flight, I think they leave SFO b/w 9:30 and 10 and the get into MCO right before 6.

As for the premier, I think you're right about if you let it expire right before/renew before Tink and you'd be covered for both Princess and WDW, but you would miss Tink in '14. But you'd get the discounts for both WDW races. And if you're going to the park both next Feb and the following Jan, it should be cheaper in the long run. I think, :rotfl2:

When I got the price for the tix a few months back, the 5 day pass was $250 and WDW hasn't raised their prices yet so I upgraded b/c the premier was just an extra $250. And I'm not doing it, b/c I'm there for such a short period of time and it takes a while to do so, but you could hop the parks w/ the AP instead of a 1park/1day thing. I might do it for the after hours if I'm alive on Sunday after the races, but if you do park hop, that'd be saving $ too.

Don't know about room discounts yet, I'll let you know when/if they come out. I'm hoping there is some discount for that weekend. But I figured w/ the tix being the same as the upgrade, it'll be worth it for food and merch discounts, especially when you take into account the expo. B/c I know I'll spend noooo$ there. Just remembered tour discounts too! I'm doing the MK tour Tues so that'll come in handy.

Kim-good to know I'm on the right track in thinking upgrading to a premier. Then for Tink 2014-we'll just go back to DL Premium AP ( which in 2yrs I bet will be the same price as the "now" premier :eek::eek:). I'm just not going to let my Tink legacy go !!!!!

Thanks for the info on Virgin-that would be a great time to fly and a non stop would be great. I'll keep my eyes open for the Feb. dates to open up. Hate paying for luggage but a non-stop would be so much easier than switching planes.

Yes-please keep me posted about room discounts so I can get a idea.

You're doing Goofy and Tink in one LONG week. That is amazing, good for you !!!!! How are you training for that ??

Does anyone know if they are going to offer the Disney Visa discount for tinkerbell? I know in the past it has come out about a week before.

That would be great! I'd love to know this too...

I've been reading through the thread for the Tinkerbell 2012. Its totally getting me excited and thinking about the details and such.

No discount for the races. :sad2: I think if there was anything last year, don't remember for sure, but it was a chance to register early, but still at the same reg price. I wish they would though, that would be awesome. That and an opportunity to reg for the 5k w/o the tix included for those who have APs and don't need that.

Hi everyone! DH and I will be making our first trip to DL for Tinkerbell! We'll be staying the week afterwards as well. We're coming from Indiana, and its our first trip to Cali (we hope to go to Huntington Beach, Universal Hollywood, and the San Deigo Zoo as well as DL). I'm a little freaked out with all the planning to do, but excited to be going! Nice to meet you all!

Welcome !!! Tinkerbell 1/2 was SO much fun last year....you will have a great time. Just be sure and bring your "wings". Don't let the planning freak you out. DL is so "easy" to do and you might even want to check out Citypass Southern California for discounts since you want to do more than DL.

Hope that helps.

I would like to start out doing the 5K (beginner runner) and have the kids do the kids races. Since it's called a family fun run 5k, are you running with people who have strollers?

Anyone planning on running the 5k only?

If you have a car and do end up going to the Zoo, you should go to the Hotel del Coronado for a couple of hours. The beach is absolutely beautiful (won best beach this year) and there's a nice deck area where you can sit and get a drink. When I lived down in SD, I went there all the time.

Last year they did have a stroller registration, but didn't notice the same thing this year, so not sure. But it wasn't a big problem, or at least, that I noticed.

I might be doing the 5k, w/ the 1/2 depends on whether someone goes w/ me for the park ticket and how I feel from the week before if it doesn't sell out. You're going to have so much fun. At night, with all the lights on in the parks, it's a great ambiance and a different feel than the daytime 5k in Sept.

Hello! Another Summer here! It's not often that I come across another one. :flower3: Did I see you on the ToT 10-Miler board too, Summer? How fun!

I can't even tell you how excited I am for this race! It will be my first 1/2, and my sister is going to run it with me! I can't wait! We actually had to do a little "creative planning" to make this work - proposed a family reunion in Huntington Beach for January (just "happened" to be the same week as the Tinkerbell :rotfl2:). How could they say no? Bwaaahahahaha!

Anyway, I'm new to running and just ran my first 5K last weekend. Right now I'm training for the Tower of Tower 10-Miler in September, then it's on to Tinkerbell! Lots of fun stuff coming up!!! :thumbsup2 I would LOVE to do the C2C in 2013, with the W&D...hmmm....how could I plot, I mean, plan that one? Maybe DH's family needs a reunion in DW. ;)

Hi, welcome! Yep, I'm over on the ToT board too! you're gonna have a great time at the Tink half....I think it was my favorite half so far. And the medal is beautiful!

Another question, my son wants to run with me age 6 in the 5k have you seen kids of all ages running in the 5k? He just did a jog a thon at school around the rack and ran 2 miles in 15 mins it was cold outside so they stopped the kids at 15 mins sure he could have ran longer. I did plan on putting him in one of the kids races but since it might be him and I going without dad he would have to run with me. Thanks!

Yeah, kids of all ages so the 5k. He should be fine, at one of them I saw a little girl, no more than 3 or 4 soing it w/o a stroller.

Someone pointed out on the DL side that they changed the schedule around. 5k is now Sat morning @ 5:45 w/ no park tix (yay) and the 1/2 is now @ 5am!! It's going to be cold and dark for almost the whole thing!:scared1: Don't know how I feel about all the changes.

Vicki- got my purse today! Love it. But I saw so many people w/ cars merchandise and taffic cone cups, so jealous. That's alright, the 1/2 is only 12 weeks away.

YIKES! 5am!! I wonder if that means they are expanding the total # of runners from last year and need the extra time? Kinda bums me out though because most of the course pics will probably be dark now.

Kim--I'm so glad you like your purse :cool1:
Did you go down to the park over the weekend ? They had plenty of tickets left for Cars Land preview but they were "paid tickets". Only 3 more weeks untill we get to go back down.

I can't believe the 1/2 is 12 weeks away. To me that means the end of summer....but then it's onto Halloween Time --yeah !!! Have you seen anything about the medal this year ??

Remember Tinker Bell Runners ---registration starts tomorrow. (As if any of you would forget)
