$160 for a 10K?????!!!! That is truly outrageous though,.

The prices seem way out of control. Glad I am getting my C2C out of the way this year and am taking a break from Disney races for awhile. I can't afford $500 for a race!!

I know- I about died laughing.

I agree- 160 for a 10K is nuts. And I'm not doing Dopey any time soon... but this might help someone who really wants to do it come to terms with their kids not going to college. :P

I'm a SINK, so that isn't a concern for me. :thumbsup2

Wonder how many pints of blood that will require?

I looked at that post and here is what I posted in response:

Let's not compare a marathon to a 5K from a pricing perspective. The costs don't scale that way.

I just ran the Little Rock Marathon three weeks ago. My race fee cost $85. And for that I get a Finisher's Medal that weighs close to 3lbs and is 8 inches in diameter (the largest medal in the USA). Plus, a free post-race party which offers a huge BBQ dinner buffet, live band, dancing, etc.

Using this math, $85/26.2 miles = $3.24 -- that is a heck of a lot for just $3.24/mile.

So, using that scale, the Dopey shouldn't cost more than $147.42. Of course, we would have to add more to cover Disney's on course entertainment and 3 more tech shirts (but not going to add more for the medals cuz all four medals don't match up to the HUGE Little Rock medal).

Are we comfortable saying that the $347.58 difference is fully justified?

Don't get me wrong.. I love Disney!! And I don't mind them making a profit because that helps keep the innovation going. But Geez! They are going to price themselves into a 'One and Done Destination' event rather than something a family with one or more runners can do on any kind of regular basis.

I don't run 5k's so that math is lost on me. I just ran a 15k for $35, how about that kind of math? Or 1/2 marathons for $55 like several I ran this year? Or the three race challenge I am running next week- 10k, 1/2 marathon and 5k all for $100. That's right, 22.4 miles for $100. That's $2.24/ mile. And I get medals, a shirt, food, etc. no characters, but that is fine with me because I will actually me able to run on the course since we won't be packed in like sardines. Should be fun:).
It is crazy to be charging $160 for a 10k! The one they are hosting out in DL California is $95, how is WDW worth that much more? I won't pay it. Ever!
Like I said, so glad to be getting my C2C over with and moving on from Disney's races, so not worth it. They are over-crowded, over priced, and under-entertained (can we say no princesses at the Princess this year and over-hyped under-delivered mile 20 at the marathon?).
Ready to enjoy some fun races somewhere else!

Wow! I'm actually sort of glad that I'm nowhere near being in any way ready to try for a full marathon, much less a Goofy/Dopey. Otherwise, I'm afraid I'd be very, very tempted by that. :)

But, yeah. That's a lot of money to spend for one race weekend!

Glad to see that they adjusted the price, but I agree w/ you guys as well. I love the Disney races and recommend them to everyone, but the prices are getting a little high.

I was mentioning in another thread that I'm doing a 5k next month at a local theme park. It's $45, we get a shirt, medal refreshments and a ticket into the park for the day as well as free parking. It's funny, b/c when I tell people that I'm doing the Disney races, the first thing they ask is whether or not we get a free ticket and I tell them no. They tried that for the WDW in '10 but it was a one and done and w/ the Neverland 5k last year, but they charged for it in a way b/c the race was $99. I'm curious how much they would lose if they did give a 1day/1park ticket to the runners or a twilight ticket, especially on the DL side of races where there are more local runners?

They would have to do something that could be established at both parks. Perhaps something to equivalent to wear your medal the day of the race and get free admission to a park.

I know it would benefit me for DL races, as I am not a premium passport holder any more. I have an AP for WDW, so it wouldn't matter to me so much.

From Disney's side of the coin, I would be spending my time and money in their park instead of going to Knott's (which I have an AP for). And if the runner has their family with them, then they all still need park admission.

We both win and I feel I got more value from my registration. Disney gets more of my money.

That is exactly my argument for a free one-day park ticket. One free ticket isn't going to cost Disney and lost sleep. In fact, that one person is going to spend money on food, gifts, and keepsakes during the day they spend inside the park. They will spend a lot more than the 'actual cost to Disney' of the park ticket.

I saw an update Active page, the 10k is now marked at $95.

I don't disagree except someone like me will pay for that day in the park. If I go DL or wdw I'm in the parks each day. They don't need to let me in free.

But I was surprised that first PHM to learn a ticket was not included. I really figured that was part if the experience too!

I agree 100%. You still are buying food, maybe a little more after the race than a normal day (:goodvibes) as well as other things at the park. I only do WDW races every couple of years so I can't speak to the make up of locals/non-locals, but a lot of the DL races are made of of locals, extending out to the whole state who have APs and wouldn't necessarily use the free tix b/c of the AP. Also, on the flip side, it might entice travelers to maybe spend another day there b/c they have a free park day and can use a multiday ticket on an extra day.

And not to mention, the race bags have decreased haven't been all that great in recent years. For Tink we got a mesh backpack, which was great, but before that it's nothing like they were when the races first started.
