Official 2012 Princess Half Marathon Thread!

Hi Amanda - I called Disney and the IRUN reps ---- it is a few dollars cheaper to go through the IRUN number. And the "per person" rate is truly per person ... so the marathon host hotel rates aren't really that much better!

But then I remember ... it's Disney ... and I LOVE Disney ...:smickey: and suddenly "it's just money" ....

I booked through IRUN and saved about $500 for my daughter and I. I compared the package deal through the official disney site-park hopper and hotel. I am staying at a moderate hotel. I'm hoping some kind of special comes up before the race that may be cheaper.

I did it! I finally ran 2 miles without stopping. No walk breaks or stopping to stretch. Got it done in an 11:30 pace. This was one of my personal goals (I know it's little) but got it checked off the list! Finally in a great spot with good shoes/no shin splints/ lungs working right and I'm actually liking this thing called running!

Looking forward to my 5.5 miler on Sunday.... wait did I really just type that?
:cool1:

Congratulations on the 2 miles (no goal is ever a little goal). Keep up the good work and keep enjoying it!

I'm counting on my DH and two young sons to travel to EPCOT via monorail. It starts at 8am from TTC (transportation and ticket center). They can take a monorail from the Contemporary to TTC and switch to the EPCOT. I think he'll manage just fine with the kids and a stroller! With a 5:45am start, he should be there in plenty of time. Good Luck!

PS - We too are staying at BLT--I'll check for passengers needing a ride as I pass through the lobby that am to my van. :grouphug: Unless I dont already have a roster at that point!

Thanks for the help! Maybe our dhs and boys can meet up too. How old are your boys?

I was going to take a cab from BLT to the start line but if you have room I'd love to ride with you. AFter contacting, soemone to rent points I have to wait until tomorrow to hopefully book it. He didn't have any more BLT owner points availabe but the 7 month window opens tomorrow. As of yesterday there is still a studio lake view available at BLT. Crossing fingers we get it tomorrow!

That's great! You'll do great on your 5.5 miler. I was suppose to do my first 5 miler today but I've had bronchitis all week so I'm having to put it off a week. Good luck tomorrow!

I'm curious if anyone would be interested in ordering some custom WISH princess bondibands. They have lime green headbands (http://www.bondiband.com/products/Solid-Bright-Neon-Green-Wicking.html) and I was thinking it would be cute if there was the Tiara on it (http://www.bondiband.com/products/Princess-Tiara-%28pink-ink%29.html) with 'WISH Princess' below it.

Thoughts? Interest?
I'm not sure how much they would cost. Normally bondibands are $8, so I imagine it would be comparable. I can organize this if anyone is interested, but we have to have 12 for a custom order. Let me know!

Edited:
I'm going to start a list of people who are interested to better keep track of how many people are interested. Let me know if you are interested and your name isn't on the list!
Heather (Stichfan18)
Michele (Michele325)
Maria (Worfiedoodles)
Julie (SaySay)
Marty (mountaineer)
Barb (freepixie)
Jennie (Twingle)
Jennifer (sunshine269)
Taryn (TMcDwyer)
Wendy (daisy112878)

Once 2 more people show an interest I'll email for more information about what the band will look like and price!

Anyone else interested?

I updated the list with everyone who I saw was interested in the WISH bondiband. Let me know if you aren't on the list, or are interested. We need at least 12 for an order, but the more the merrier :)

I would like to order bands!! There's 3 of us, so add three to the list!!! Let me know what I need to do.

I put you down for 3, and those 3 pushed us over the minimum!

I sent an email to find out more specifically about pricing and design options. I'll let everyone know what I find out, and see if anyone else is interested before I place the order. I'll also find out if others who join this thread later will be able to order the same design without having to place the minimum order of 12. If not, then I'll probably just get a few extra to hold on to until later!

Awesome!! And that's a good time too for those of us who aren't Kenyans! This running stuff does kinda get under your skin after a while doesn't it? ;)

Brutal morning for a long run - it was 83 degrees and over 90% humidity when I got in my car at 4:30 to go meet the group. Managed 10.6 but the last few were hot hot hot.

DANG that is hot! I don't know how you did it.

I have been meaning to ask you my galloway expert, what is the galloway recomendation for slowing pace in the heat? THANKS!

Congrats to all who have managed to rum in this crazy heat. I haven't run on about a week due to the problem with my knee, the heat and to top it all off , i came down with step throat on Thursday and have felt like total crud since then. Hopefully this week will be better all around.

 Colleen!!! I hope you are feeling better soon. :flower3:

Alright girls, I have some info on pricing for the Wish princess bondibands!

If we order between 12-25 bands the price would be $5 for the band
There is a set up fee of $20 for the order, so right now at 13 bands that would add another another $1.53, but if we get more interest that will be cheaper! I'll mail all the bands out once I recieve them, so there will be an extra $1 for shipping. The total price per a band right now is $7.53. I'm still waiting to find out whether others can order the band down the road without the 12 band minimum. Let me know if anyone else is interested now that we have a better idea about price.

30 seconds for every 5 degrees above 60. For the 12:30 pace group, that meant we really should have been about a 16-16:30 mile this morning. 2 min over race pace, then another 2 min for the weather. We did a little under 16 so not bad.

One problem with that, though, is that running so slow can be a bit hard to do.

Even though it seems really, really slow, I have seen it work well to avoid injury but still hit your goal race times. You do your tempo or speed work during the week - my mid-week runs tend to be more in the 11-13mm range.

I was going to do 15 this morning but the heat made me go no way. It would have been my longest ever, and it just was NOT the day for it!

You will all be able to start in the same corral, but if there is someone assigned to a slower corral, you will all have to start there.

For example, if 3 were assigned to corral A, and one was in D, everyone would have to start in D if you wanted to run together.

Thanks neighbor! :cutie:

We are confirmed now, DVC at AK's Kidani Village!

Our next plan is to come up with our list of top 3 restaurants to make reservations at for race night to celebrate. Did anyone else do this last year or does anyone plan on having a huge celebratory dinner that night?

I'm at AKV too, but in Jambo house. I plan to celebrate with some Zebra domes and don't want to walk too far to get them:rotfl:

Kidding aside, I remember some people going to do the princess meal in Norway for their meal on Sunday which I thought was awesome to do with princess gear and medal. I haven't ever eaten there, so I'm not sure what the food is like, but I'm tempted to book there just for the awesome photo opps without having to wait in line.

8 of us did the Norway breakfast after the race in 2010, and we were actually pretty disappointed. The picture was fun but you will get plenty of photopass pics with medals (we did anyhow!). Norway seemed overpriced for the food you get.

Wish Princess bondibands can be reordered again later without the set up fee, but the order would have to have the 12 band minimum. I think I'll order a few extra in case some join this thread later and want one just to make it easier. I would really like to see this order get up to 20 bands so the cost will be an easy $7 (or less) for everyone. We have 13 bands in our order right now, if I order 3-4 extra, then we only need 3-4 to make it to 20 bands. I'll plan to let people add their name to the list until next Monday 8/1. After that date I'll send everyone a paypal invoice for the final cost, and will order once I receive payments. If you are already on the list, can you please PM me your email address that you want me to send your invoice to?
