Anybody know if my almost 11 year old can do the Royal 5k on her own? She has done quite a few 5k's so she is used to what "goes on". I will obviously be at the start (or as close as I can) and the finish. I was planning on giving my legs a break the day before the big race.....By the way $50 5k is STEEP! ouch!

Yes, I am fairly certain they can. The last Disney 5k I ran I was catching a 10-12 year old when they saw the line and left me in the dust.

Just got called back and made my reservations for All Stars Movies! This is really going to happen!

I'm so excited & I can't wait to book!!! Just finalising travel plans before I register but I think we're flying in (from the UK) Thursday 23rd and flying home Tuesday 6th :yay: it looks like we're gonna be staying at the Springhill Suites near Seaworld - does anyone know taxi costs from that area to Epcot for race day?!
Also any news on the Princess in Training merchandise?!

long time no see!!! :goodvibes haven't been on here lately and i've missed you guys!!! ok, since registration is open and we're all getting excited...i have question that i'm sure someone out there knows! i've been contemplating on which princess to pick as my favorite...it always comes back to cinderella :) WELL i was just in disney less than a month ago, and i know we've had posts or talk about these before, but i saw the tutu's for the different princesses, that they sell at disney. i remember before the half this past feb there was a thread about what your costume looks like etc, and i remember someone was going to wear one of these. my question is, how big are they, or does anyone know the measurements? i'm thinking of this being a goal...to fit in one :lmao: i hope it's a reachable goal and that i'll be stylin' in my cinderella tutu in 7 months :woohoo:

I thought about that princess question for WAY too long when I was registering! Like it was a major life decision or something. :rolleyes1
I know I have ordered custom tutu's on ebay for my daughter - could probably get them for adults too!

Hmmm...Hey, SaySay - THIS is what we forgot to put in the back of my car! Poor planning on our part, clearly. Will be sure to remedy that next year. Will have to get Hockey Kat's # and see if we can coordinate parking spaces!

Definitely!! There are 8 in our group and some of us are, umm, speed-challenged, though, so you might be waiting a while. :)

Last year we did the $10 for 10 min massage tent and it was sooo worth it. By the time we finished with waiting for our last runner, getting medals, food, and massages, the bag check was down to a single line/person and the parking lot was pretty empty.

Resort booked!!!! :cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:

CM this morning who told me they wouldn't be available till next week was incorrect (thank goodness!)

Anyone have a favorite brand or online source? I am having a hard time finding one I am comfortable in. I have been wearing my regular bra underneath with a sports bra over to keep the girls in check and not bouncing. However, I'd like to find something breathable that I can wear that works (so that I'm more comfy and not sweating profusely in my expensive normal bras). I need something designed and sized like a bra (34 DDD). I basically need a size XL top with a size S/M band and straps. I'd prefer not to feel like the girls are squashed into a uni**** sausage, but that may be inevitable. I'm willing to sink some money into a good sports bra to train in every day. The 20 dollar versions in the local sporting goods store just aren't cutting it.
Help!

I am a larger girl with a larger chest.

That said, I would look into Champion or Moving Comfort. Kohl's carries the Champion underwire sports bras. They are pricey (not as pricey as Moving Comfort) but they fit like a bra, are breathable, and they keep the "girls" really well supported. They only do D/DD but I think you would be fine with a 34-36D/DD. as the band is adjustable. I love mine.

Hi! This is my first post! I did the Princess half earlier this year - it was my first!! Unfortunately, I did not get to enjoy the excitement of finishing. I started feeling a little "out of it" around mile 11. After the race, I couldn't eat (very unusual for me!). In less than an hour, I had a horrible headache and vomitted the entire day. I have never been so sick. My husband nearly took me to the ER.

TRAINING: I live in NC, so the weather was never very hot during my training. I drank a powerade/water mix and would sometimes have a serving of sportsbeans if I was going to be doing a really long walk/run. Never had any trouble.

RACE DAY: I drank water at every stop (but not the powerade) and had one pack of sports beans (which I spread out over a few miles). My time was 3:23, so it was pretty hot by the time I finished.

Did I deplete of something?? What can I do to prevent this from happening again. I am going to do the Princess half in 2012, but I am terribly afraid of the same fate. Any ideas?? Thank you so much!!

I also live in NC and I do train in the summer, so we deal with heat and humidity a lot and it is a hot topic with my running group.

This year's princess was HOT, and with your finish time, the last 5-7 miles were brutal with the sun and humidity and heat. I finished in 3:33 so believe, me, I know!!

You likely suffered from heat sickness and dehydration. I would recommend drinking the powerade at least every other water stop if not all of them. You may want to carry salt tablets (Succeed is a good one) if the powerade upsets your stomach. Also, dump water over your head at every stop. I take a cup, dump it over my head, take another, drink a bit.

I would also recommend at least 2-3 packs of beans for the time that you are out there. One every hour is pretty standard.

Here is a good article on heat related illness: http://www.badwater.com/training/hoddeonheat.html

I like the Champion bras too. I wore one of their underwire models for a long time until the wires started snapping in two (I admittedly machine wash and dry them so I'm sure that has led to the wire snapping issue) and I decided to try one of their no-wire bras, which I never thought would work for me. I tried the "360 Max Support" one and love it...very comfortable and supports just a good as the underwire one, maybe even better...have purchased several more since. (I'm a "C" now, but was into a "D" when I first started wearing them...the large works well for me in the "360 Max".) They run $40 normally, but if you go to the Champion website and sign up to receive their emails, you'll find that they go on sale pretty frequently. They run a buy 1 get 1 half off special along with some others. Also, I recently found one at a TJ Maxx store for $12!!!! It was an out-of-season dark purple color, so I can only wear it with certain tops, but still, $12!!! Good luck...I feel your pain...I am also small (5') and a bit disproportioned up top so I know it's hard to find the right fit with enough support. I think I've tried on every sports bra in my city at one time or another! I once seriously considered taking a sports bra to my tailor to have the straps shortened but figured I'd be too embarassed to ever go back after that! (and I HAVE to go back...5' people just can't wear pants right off the rack!) :headache:

I've also got the endowment problem - DD+, and I've got two recommendations. If you can deal with the uni effect (best way to not bounce anyway) and don't want those girls moving at all, try the Enell bra. It fits pretty snugly around the ribs and is kind of a pain to get into as it has hooks up the front, but you will NOT bounce! Title 9 has them, or you can contact Enell directly for fit information. I used them for years when I owned and rode horses all the time. About a year ago I switched to a CWX bra, don't remember the name but it's the one that zips up the front. Again a uni model, but more comfortable, though slightly less stable, that the Enell. I ran a half in March in it, with no rubbing or irritation. Only those two models will hold me in place. Hope this helps.

Find out exactly what sports drink they will have at the Princess, if possible, and drink it during your training so you know your innards will handle it. I live in VA so I know about your weather issues this time of year, and I'm overly sensitive to heat too. I haven't had good luck with eating anything during a race, but I second the idea of pouring water on your head at every stop! Also you can try drinking a cup of water AND a cup of powerade at every stop. This worked for me in the spring during my first half. That is until about mile 11 when some nice man was passing out small cups of really cold beer and I couldn't resist! Man, that was the best beer EVER!!:thumbsup2

It's not enough to hydrate during the race. Be sure to alternate water / sports drink for 24 - 48 hours prior to the race - that should be a huge help. The only caveat that I have read about this is that you want to make sure you don't go overboard and just hydrate non-stop; then you are just flushing the system of the sodium that you need to balance out. I would look at your library for either Galloway's or Hal Higdon's books - I know both have sections in them on pre-race strategies. Actually, you might want to look at runnersworld.com - I'm sure they have tons of articles online. I hope it works out for you this year!

I know lots of people got them last year from different people on the Etsy site. I'm lucky enough to have a niece that is a sewing whiz, so I got her some tulle in Tinkerbell colors and she fixed me right up! The only problem was that I had given her my waist size, so it fit fine there. HOWEVER, she didn't really consider the hips of a woman who has had 3 children - I almost couldn't get the darn thing past my hips / rear!! :rotfl:

And I had a hard time with the princess decision, too - I was never a very princessy girl; I love Tinkerbell and wish she could be included. However, I went with Aurora last year (childhood fondness) but am going with Tiana this year - new fave and, let's be honest, I like her bib color better!

It's hard for anyone to say at this point what exactly happened. I am going to go out on a limb and say it was NOT dehydration but the opposite, hyponatremia. This is caused by drinking too much water and diluting your body's electrolytes. Symptoms appear the same at the finish line as dehydration with the exception of the vomiting. They include....
Nausea and vomiting
Headache
Confusion
Lethargy
Fatigue
Appetite loss
Restlessness and irritability
Muscle weakness, spasms or cramps

Yes, you CAN drink too much water in a 3.5 hour event. Typical victims of hyponatremia are women who may be a little plus sized and are not replacing any electrolytes.

In future events where it is hotter than your training, prioritize the sport drink first.
Stop drinking if your GI tract starts sloshing.
You should plan on bringing in nutrition at least once an hour and more than likely every 45 minutes in an event. I believe that a pack of sport beans is one serving. Just doing the math you probably should have brought on 3-4 bags of beans over a 3.5 hour event. This is really a rule of thumb and YMMV. But, if you were pushing in the mid miles and started to deplete glycogen to lower end levels you can also have the nausea feeling.

Don't panic at this point and train for the next race focusing n bringing on a little more Kcal in the race as well as sport drink. It is PowerAde at Disney.
