Anyhoo, question and suggestions on costume. Now some of you I'm friends with elsewhere so bear with me on the repeat of questions :rolleyes1... I'm considering on dressing as Jasmine but my concern is on the puffy/poofy pants. How annoying are these going to be running in and are the costume ones even breathable?? (sigh) If I don't dress as Jasmine then I'll probably just be all girly with a tiara on my head but I kinda want to be a Princess... Disney princess and Jasmine is one of my favs I'm just not sure how to make the costume work for running.

Soooo suggestions are most welcome! :dance3:

There are Jasmine costume ideas in these links (most in log pants)

If you go to the link below and click on photos, there are almost 40 pages of pictures of runners from the race. You should be able to find some Jasmine inspired costumes:

I let my daughter choose my princess and she chose Belle (b/c she loves books  ). So now I have 7 months to create the perfect Belle costume and I've been avidly looking at all the photos I can find. :thumbsup2

I am SO jealous, no way I can do a coast to coast...well MAYBE will do it with the disneyland half next year, we shall see.

I wish I would have gone to the peachtree expo....i had my number mailed to me and now I feel like I missed out!

Julie,

When I tell you that there was EVERYTHING to buy there, it would be an understatement! I have learned from the Peachtree expo to 1) leave my hubby and children at home 2) I have set up a "fund" to be prepared :rotfl:.

Oh gosh from headphones to calve sleeves from energy bands to energy drinks and all the samples it was amazing!!! So I am definetely going to give myself adequate time at the Princess to take in workshops and all things running with my girlfriends who will want to WILLINGLY participate!!

I, too have a costuming question. I am looking for the twirly, ruffly skirts not the sparkle skirts but the ones that are shorter with the ruffles. Does anyone know where I could purchase them online. I missed the booth at our Expo. Thanks if anyone can help out;)

What are thoughts on tapering mileage before the 1/2? I typically do long runs on Sat of 10-12 m, and 4days week of 3-5 m each day. This will be my first half so unsure of tapering the couple of weeks before the race. Any suggestions??

You currently running weekly long runs of 12 for a race in Feb? Cool.

For most folks, tapering two weeks is all that is really needed for a half. So coming into the race you would have a 10-13 mile run. The following weekend hold it to say 6-9 miles During than week, lose one of your midweek runs. Then race week, only run a couple times and keep the intensity lower. Finally race weekend of 13.1.

Tapering is all about cutting back time on run, not necessarily intensity. There are folks who say shorten two long runs (three weeks)... that is overkill for a half unless you have an injury that you are attempting to overcome.

Honestly, given your current history, I am not sure I would taper. It's just another weekend run.

Just saw your post and wanted to say hi - I'm in Culpeper, VA and will be participating in the Princess next year also!

Wow! Small world. I used to live in Rixeyville. Lots of good hills in that area to run on.

I just booked 3 nights at AKV for the weekend!
All the talk about costumes has me thinking about mine now. I'm thinking about doing a Pirate princess outfit since my favorite photo op from this years race was with Jack Sparrow and his crew. Since I haven't registered I need to figure out which princess to pick so my bib coordinates with my outfit...

i just called irun to make my reservation for the 25th-29th at a value resort and was quoted 592.96 for room only 2 adults. But if I go to Disney.com and price it the price is only 542. When I asked the CM about the price difference she said the marathon price probably included the transportation. So is the only way to ride the shuttles to pay more? I'm still a bit confused about the price difference, i was expecting to pay less for running. Even weirder, when i got quotes for the Mods it was 793.04 from iRun and 860 from Disney.com. So there is a discount with the Mods but not the Values? There does seem to be a good discount on park tickets though.

I have said this several times on other threads...

Your better off reserving through central reservations than Disney Sports. They have better discounting nor require as high a deposit. What Central cannot provide is the free round of mini golf given out by Sports.

So, go with the cheaper deal. If you are at the bus stop on race morning you will be able to hop the bus, there is no special card or handshake required.

I have yet another 5k Royal race question if you all dont mind. Does anyone know what time you have to be on a bus by to get to the start line? I know the race is at 7am on the 25th but havent been able to find any info on what time to be there.

thanks!

Actually, that might be one of the least warm costumes. I would think that the pre-made costume pants are polyester and therefore NOT good for this. But if you know someone who sews, I bet you could pick up some kind of sheer, breathable fabric to make the pants out of. I saw people in polyester costumes last year absolutely sweating their hoo-hoos off. I love the costume idea, too, and last year I went for a Tink "look" but couldn't bring myself to add the wings - I just didn't want anything extra on me. Have plenty more time to ponder this for the 2012!

Thanks Amy and KathleensKid. I do have a friend that sews and if I go the Jasmine route it will have to be made; I just can't imagine running in those Halloween costumes. :P

Also Amy, I've seen your Tink costume from last time and it is super cute! But I agree about the wings, I wouldn't have been able to bring myself to wear them either. I'm sure you will come up with some even better this time!

As for me I think waaaaay too much. hahaha If I don't go with Jasmine the playing field is wide open but I do want to be cute and princessy. :cutie: hahaha

Hi Everyone!

I'm a newbie to the forum and this is going to be my first Princess Half-Marathon. I'm flying down from the D.C. Region with a grad school classmate of mine and we're running together.

I wanted to know if anyone has any advice on booking hotels/travel accommodations, etc. or if folks join up to split rooms since I'm sure hotel blocks fill up quickly! Any advice about the fine-tuned details of the event is greatly appreciated.

I'm super excited and looking forward to meeting other runners! :thumbsup2

I'm still trying to figure out all my details but I did want to add to MamaWolf Jasmine coustume - if you are worried about the long pants you could always do harem pants with side slits - so air could flow - I don't Know about the areodynamics of them as I am new to running but I think it would be much cooler.

Is this kinda what you are looking for? There unfortunately are running low on sizes but if it's what you are looking for you might be able to see if they are going to restock soon

Generally the buses will run from 5:30 - 6:00 AM. If driving they ask you to be at the start by 6:15.

I have a question.

I have looked around for a specific "rule" on this, but don't think there is one. Can I dress up as another sort of princess or does it have to be a Disney princess? What sorts of costumes do people usually have? Just wondering because I will be looking for the material to make the costume soon before the Halloween rush bumps prices up.

Thanks! :goodvibes

I am new to Disney running and had no idea that people dressed up for this race. :) :lovestruc I would LOVE to see some of your outfits from last year if you don't mind sharing them here.

However, runDisney does have a better deal on discounted tickets that you can get just about anywhere else.
