Hey, Princesses - minor setback today, but viewing it as a blessing in disguise! For a while now, I have been having SERIOUS tightness in my left calf. Never caused any probs until recently when I got my shin splints. Went to the PT today thinking I would be given a bunch of stretches and be done with it.

Well, she showed me how tight various parts of my leg were compared to my other leg. The fascia - the layer between the skin and muscle - is pressed down & kind of attaching itself to the muscle, making it extra tight. Also, my range of motion is way low - knee is fine, ankle needs some help, but - get this - my BIG TOE is a prob! I guess you are supposed to be able to pull your big toe toward you 85 degrees for proper running. Mine bends 30 degrees! There were several other things, but the bottom line is that EVERYTHING on my left leg is tight and I am lucky I have not popped or torn something. I need to cut out my 6 mile runs for 6-8 weeks, doing only 3 mi at most 2/week and doing that at 5 min. walk / run intervals. Will be seeing her 2/wk. I'm kinda bummed, b/c this will put me at almost beginner level again for the Princess, but glad we're catching this now before it gets ugly!

Thanks for letting me share! My husband is a skeptic of all stuff like this and really doesn't believe that I need to be seeing the PT this often and doing all this stuff, but I say better safe than sorry!

Tinkeramy - stick with the PT, it will be well worth it - will catch stuff before you begin compensating and injuring yourself otherwise. Something else I recommend (don't think I'm crazy) is acupuncture. I never believed it until we had it done on our Corgi who was downed (now you really think I'm crazy). The Boxer now gets it about once a month for her arthritis and you can see the difference. I truly believe animals can't lie so tried it out for myself and have seen wonders when I tweak a muscle or joint running. Been at it for about 9 months now and really see results. She insists I see a my primary regularly, but this is a great alternate to tons of ibuprofen!

I booked as soon as registration went up. Last year Old Key West was the host hotel. Luckily I have some AKV DVC points to use so I didn't have to wait until 7 months before traveling which will be July 21st:thumbsup2 I am not really crazy about Saratoga Springs. Stayed at AKV before and loved it. Only wished I have more points to stay "Savanna view". What "view" did you book?

I've never stayed at AK so not sure about the view, but my cousin is trying to get us on the concierge level. Just got back to us today that right now there is nothing available, but we just should wait til the 7 month mark then try again. We'd both really like to stay there because of all the great reviews.

But..... as we agreed, as long as we're in Disney, we will be happy sleeping on the curb!:cloud9:

I second acupuncture. I had it for the first time last week for my PF and it has been great. I had a run in with a golf cart two days ago and hurt a tendon in my leg. I plan to have him look at it next week when I go back.

All parking is free, expo and race day. You are almost as close as you would be from the bus - that is, of course, including the 20 min walk from the bag check to the start line! :)

We closed Jellyrolls at 2AM! :)

OK this is a challenge! ;-)

Amy, you know we joke at my house how the Princess was the most expensive race ever...because of all my PT and the copays! BUT it go me to the finish and things are getting better. Better safe than sorry!

PM me your PT!

I am on the call back list for a hotel room. I know some of you have already booked your rooms. How did you do it? did you just book it with out the discounts?

this past weekend I was at a race expo and RunDisney had a booth and in it had all the medals from previous races. I saw the medal for the 2011 Princess Half and it felt so good to see a medal and finally say "OOOOHHHH I have that medal!" Now I want another and that is why I'm registering for not only this but for the one in Disneyland so I can get the coast to coast medal! Game On!!!!!!!!!!!

I am SO jealous, no way I can do a coast to coast...well MAYBE will do it with the disneyland half next year, we shall see.

I wish I would have gone to the peachtree expo....i had my number mailed to me and now I feel like I missed out!

I totally agree!!:worship: And it's going to be so much fun!

Will this be your first 1/2? This year's Wine and Dine will be my first. It took me about 20 min to hit submit on the registration..then I had a panic attack;)

Jennifer

It will be my first one. I hit submit real quick to make sure I did not chicken out!

Sounds like you need to join us for Drinking Around the World at Epcot! It's a great way to rehydrate after a race. :)

Oh, we did that too! We finished the race, had a beer in the parking lot, went to Cape May for breakfast, wandered Epcot after and "rehydrated" a bit, went back to the resort for pool time (and rehydrating), then back to Epcot to watch Illuminations, then to Jellyrolls. Good time had by all. :goodvibes

Okay, call me weird, but I'm not allowing myself to register until I finish a major work project. It's going to be my sweet reward!! And I'm thinking about going with Rapunzel. Girlfriend knows how to use a frying pan. :)

I can't handle drinking around the world, (I'm a Bud Light only kind of gal,) but I am planning on eating around the world after the race! Gotta list going of goodies to try. School bread from Norway. German caramel. Peach tart in France. The red bean ice cream in China? Yeah, not sure about that one. ;)

Hmm, I want to know where you're parking for the race! :thumbsup2

I just called (again) about rooms and the CM I spoke with said that packages might not be able to be booked until next week. She said they will call people back but also said it won't hurt to keep calling each day.

2 words for you.... BLUE EMU! :rotfl2:

You know I love that stuff and they have it at Walmart!

Sorry about your injury but better now than in January! Just do what they say right now on stretching, no more no less. When I was hurt I was SO tight also my PT told me not to do anything but what she told me and the first 2 weeks it wasn't much, but it did loosen up. Ask about a foam roller or the stick.

Bummed for you too, but you know when you start to train again, you will quickly get back up to speed. AND if you are doing the race with me, you will def be going SLOWER, no worries there.:cool1:

OK folks, here's another logistics question - I think it was addressed earlier in this thread or on another, but I can't find it.....:confused3

So, we are driving down from Charlotte and will have a car. If we opt to stay on-site but NOT at a host hotel, can I just drive to the parking lot of one of the host hotels, and catch the bus to the starting line? We would really, really like to stay at BW or BC (near Epcot), but neither are hosts. I seem to recall in earlier WDW trips that we got a parking pass at check-in which gets you in to any resort parking lot as well as the parks....

THANKS!!!!

We stayed at the Swan/Dolphin and just drove to the start. Really easy, just follow all the cars. ;-)

After you park make sure you remember WHERE your car is...its dark then and daytime when the race is over, totally different perspective. I will say, traffic getting OUT of the parking lot was a little crazy.

Hmmm...Hey, SaySay - THIS is what we forgot to put in the back of my car! Poor planning on our part, clearly. Will be sure to remedy that next year. Will have to get Hockey Kat's # and see if we can coordinate parking spaces!

Im not going to be able to register until July 29th (wiating on a paycheck) and Im so gitty about it! I just moved apartments and so it's been two weeks since I've done a long run - but Ive been albe to get some short runs in which felt great. When do you guys think it will sell out? I have some friends that are interested but still on the fence on wether or not they'll actaully go. Do you guys remember when it sold out last year?

Well, then, I think we should def. load the back with a cooler of beer and let everyone else go before us! Let's get tipsy and go in search of characters to bother! Or, if we want to be a might *classier* (even though I am very much the beer girl) mimosas would CERTAINLY be appropriate for thirsty princesses. We'll bring our fanciest plastic glasses. I can see the pictures now.
I'll think about things like this while I am being tortured by the PT.

It didn't sell out until January, so plenty of time there. The price does go up in August, but it will still be open for a while.

I don't know about Drinking Around the World, but I fully intend to have an orange slushie from France at some point that day :thumbsup2
