Hmmmmm... Is a month enough time between Halfs to consider doing the Tinkerbell? (Bearing in mind that I'm also planning on running the Las Vegas Half in early December, which will be my first Half ever).

A friend of mine is planning on Tink and Princess, but I don't know if that's a realistic idea for myself, however I'd hate for the registration to fill up before I decided that I wanted to try it! Grumble grumble indeed.

I think it's do-able :) I'm doing the DL half and Wine & Dine this year only a month apart. I don't know exactly how my training plan is going to look for that, but fortunately I have a trainer handling all that!

SIGH - so jealous! Would LOVE to do both but just don't see the funds appearing, especially right after Christmas. I also don't see myself corralling a friend to fly across country with me - FL is much easier to convince someone with!

If the Princess is any indication, you have a little bit of time - reg didn't fill up until about 1-2 months before the event, if I'm remembering correctly.

I am registered for the Goofy, signing up for the ING Miami Marathon and still debating if I want to do this princess again. That would be 2 marathons and 2 halfs in less than two months. So, yes, it is possible; however, some people will recover quicker or halfs may not be as hard for them, everyone is different. Just know your limits and you should be fine.

You all move too fast for me to keep up, post-wise and probably running wise too! :) I'm still here and I'm still trying. Tonight was the first night in the two months I've been training that I just couldn't make myself do it, so I came here for some motivation for tomorrow.

Hello Princesses!

Does anyone use the Nike Plus app on their phones (I have mine on my iphone)? I've been loving it because my friends can cheer for me on my runs through Facebook, it tracks mileage, best times, and all that fun stuff. I was also planning on "racing" my friends through the app as well. Just wondering if anyone else has used it...

I'm still in the cell phone dark ages, but I have the Nike Plus for my iPod (also from the dark ages). I haven't linked it with my FB account, but maybe I will. I have to admit I love looking at those little run graphs!

I hope so! I am doing my first half at DL then the wine & dine. I really want to get my coast to coast!!

hahaha Amy I would TOTALLY do it with you if I could scrape up the funds. :rotfl:

Sooo I went to try on a few Garmin watches yesterday to see how they fit. They didn't have the exact models I was looking for but the had the others in the series (and the fit is about the same -- just features had changed). I tried on the 410 and hated it. I have tinkie wrist as well (5 1/4) and the watch rubbed up against my wrist bone. The small protruding bone (styloid process) hurt with this watch. I'm guessing because it wouldn't lie flat on my wrist and it's a little hard and curved around the bezel part. :confused3 I then tried on the massively huge 205 which (supposedly) fits much like the 305. I really liked this one. I am also a little old school and I like buttons to mash on instead of touch screens or other such things. Yes it was big but it's not something I will be wearing everyday and also I feel confident I'd be able to read the screen (I mean it's big). hahaha I know the 405 & 410 is supposed to be better in tree lined streets and such but it was just so uncomfortable for me. So it looks like I'll be going with the 305. .... I guess :rolleyes1

Thanks for posting your experience on this! I have small wrists too and would really LOVE to get a Garmin but am not sure which one. Maybe I can sweet-talk into getting one for Mother's Day. ;)

First off, I wanted to thank all of you amazing people for your words! I never knew a group of people could be so awesome!

And of course the second piece is some advice needed. I'm trying to decide between what plans to start with. I'm saving Jeff Galloway's plan for closer to the actual marathon so I already know when I'm starting that. What I'm curious about is whether I should just start with the C25k or something else? I realize that running is probably the most individualized sport when it comes to training but I also saw John Bingham's plan and it seems like a good one. Also I'm kind of worried about the 90 seconds of jogging - something I'm not too sure I can accomplish just yet! Any advice on this? :confused3

Also, when breaking in shoes, is it customary for your feet to hurt? I've never had this problem before but I just got a pair of Adidas running shoes and the sides of my feet were hurting. Hopefully this is normal for the breaking in period!

I am very new to the world of running ... and amaazed I am considering a 5K ... or a half marathon. How good do you have to be to participate in the half marathon. Someone mentioned intervals ... is it ok to do intervals in the half marathon?

And the real question ... are there some participants who participate to participate and dont rreally run? I dont want to be the only street cleaner!!:rotfl:

you can always add on the foot pod for the 305 if you have issues with the GPS, and it will measure the cadence on your foot. It is an extra $100, but you're saving money by going with the 305 instead of the 410 anyways, right?

I know alot of peole who have success with the c25k, but if you like bingham's plan better, go for it. I don't think WHICH plans matter as much as long as you stick to the one you choose.

No. Shoes should not hurt you. Bring them back immediately and get fitted for ones that work for your foot type and shape!

Doesn't matter if you run, walk, skip, hop, crawl, etc to that finish line as long as a) it's you and your feet b) you mantain a 16 minute mile pace. If you choose to just walk, believe me, you won't be alone. And if you want to run or run/walk, that's cool too. There will be finishers anywhere from 1:30-3:30.

All you need to do is maintain a 16minute mile average from when the last runner crosses the start....with training, its doable!

I am an interval runner. I ended up with a nasty case of Plantar faciitis after my 10 mile training run 5 weeks before the princess...BUT I did it, I finished and alot slower than I had trained for. Lots of people doing various intervals, esp since Jeff Galloway is the RunDisney expert. Oh and since I was going really slow I can attest, lots of walkers! Just follow nice race etiquette and you are great. No matter your speed or time, lots of support at the race and it was so much fun!

A week from today, we will be in Orlando for a week! I am buying an annual pass because between this trip and one in the summer it will save me like $40 AND then as I told DH, won't have to buy park tickets for the princess. :-)

How is that for motivation.

Good run today 3.5 miles, first time outside in a long long time. Slow but so happy to be running again.

When I first started running I struggled to run for 1 minute so I followed Hal Higdon's 30/30 plan. I can't submit the link because I'm a newbie but try this without the spaces - www . halhigdon . com / beginrunner / plan. htm
Personally I found this a great starting program before training for a 5k :thumbsup2

As for running shoes I usually go to my local running store for a gait analysis before buying new and they've never hurt!

My girlfriend's and I are thinking about running next year and I have a question...

My DH is currently unemployed so I can't commit right now - but as soon as he gets a job- I am in

So my question is - how early does the event fill up?

This morning I ran my first 8K using the 2 min run-2 min walk plan. I had set a time goal of 1hr 15min (15 min mile pace) and was surprised that I came in under my goal time. The 2/2 worked really well. Mile 3 felt like it would never end, but by mile 4 I was pretty excited that I still felt strong. I did drink/chew ? a GU pack at the half way mark and felt my strength recover some. My overall pace ended up at a 13 min mile. That gives me time to take photos and get a bathroom break in for the princess.

I stayed to the back of the pack so I wouldnt feel rushed or slow compared to the other runners. This was the longest distance I have done in one workout to date.

I signed up for a 10K on July 30. These local races keep me training and help me practice my pace. REALLY surprised that I am at this point in my training and feeling good. :thumbsup2

I tried the Hal Higdon beginner plan and it worked really well for me, too. His goal is to get you up to running for 30 minutes straight, without stopping. And if you can do that, that's about a 5K right there! I did a mish-mosh of plans once I started figuring out what to expect from my body. I got up to the 30 minutes with Higdon and was running a 10 mm pace, but when I got up to 5 miles I just felt that I couldn't do much more mileage running the entire way, so I looked to Galloway. I didn't like all the starts / stops, so I just decided to walk 1 minute after each mile. This is how I did the princess. However, I have come full circle - I ran 6 miles today but did the 4 / 1 intervals. Worked really well and I felt good at the end - not completely worn out. Once you learn what to expect from your body and what feels good to you, you can formulate your own training plan, using the "experts" as guides.
